Because of your generosity year after year, Rebuilding Together Tulsa has provided over 1,000 homeowners with free home repairs. Together, we can ensure that

families have a safe place to raise their children and grandchildren. Together we can make homes safer for those who are living with a disability or aging in place. Together, we can help keep our neighbors’ homes cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Together, we can rebuild homes, re-build neighborhoods, and rebuild lives.

I have had the privilege of serving as Rebuilding Together Tulsa’s Board Chair for the 2014-2015 fiscal year. Re-building Together Tulsa’s staff, volunteers and contributors work together to provide invaluable services to home-owners in Tulsa. By completing desperately needed repairs and energy efficiency upgrades, RTT provides home-owners the opportunity to feel safe, secure and comfortable in their own home. Our homeowners’ lives are not the only lives changed through RTT. By renewing a sense of pride in homeowner-ship, entire communities are positively impacted by RTT’s goal to end sub-standard housing in Tulsa. Thank you all for working together to support Rebuilding Together Tulsa.

Mary JacksonBoard Chair 2014-2015

“Far and away the best prize that life has to offer is the chance to work hard at work worth doing” Theodore Roosevelt

The work of Rebuilding Together Tulsa is hard (there is no question about that), but very worth doing. The gener-osity of our donors, the dedication of our volunteers, the drive of our board members and the devotion of our staff make the difficult work of making homes safe and secure much easier.

In our 18th year of service to the Tulsa community, 140 families let us into their homes and into their lives. They allowed us access to every corner of their home to close gaps and seal off holes, they watched patiently as ceilings damaged from years of leaks were pulled down to be replaced by fresh sheetrock, they waited anxiously for the final touches to be made to their new wheelchair ramp so they could have their independence back, they cheered as roofers completed their brand new roof, and they worked side by side with our volunteers to get the job done.

I am grateful to these families and all the people that make Rebuilding Together Tulsa’s work possible. I look for-ward to a fantastic 19th year and ahead to many more!

Thank you for helping make a difference in the lives of your Tulsa neighbors!

Ms. Paulette has lived in her home with her husband for 22 years. Her leg was amputated above the knee due to a late diabetes diagnosis. She was able to walk with her prosthetic leg, but has become completely wheelchair bound recently due to complications with her prosthetic.

She and her husband have made some repairs on their home, but did not have the physical or financial ability to build a much needed wheelchair ramp.

Ms. Paulette has a beautiful smile and a joyful disposi-tion. “I am so blessed. This is an answered prayer. So many people my age are in a nursing home. I really am blessed.”

Rebuilding Together Tulsa volunteers built a new wheelchair ramp for Ms. Paulette, giving her and her husband safe access in and out of their home.

After seeing her new ramp, she said, “Thank you from the bottom of my heart. You have given me a sense of peace I didn’t have before.”

safety.

Ms. Gale is 55 years old and is a single mom of 3. She has lived in her home for 20 years.

She is a breast cancer survivor and has had heart issues for the past two years. A year ago, her car was totaled in a wreck in her neighborhood, causing her constant pain.

Although she is in pain, she has a positive attitude and finds the strength to care for her grandchild during the day. She also finds joy in her garden. “I am self sustain-ing,” she said. She grows sweet potatoes, corn, lettuce, strawberries, peaches and more.

Ms. Gale was the victim of two burglaries in the past year and requested secure door locks to help provide her peace of mind for her and her grandchild.

Rebuilding Together Tulsa made sure Ms. Gale received new secure doors, deadbolts and locks to help ensure she and her grandchild can be safe in her home! She also re-ceived a new roof and energy efficiency repairs.

“You guys are a miracle,” she said!

Weatherproofing.

Mr. Charles is 60 years old and has lived in his home for 16 years. He worked as an equipment operator for the city until a neck injury on the job left him physi-cally unable to continue working. He has since had five operations on his neck.

Mr. Charles remains active and does the housework and repairs he is able to do. The repairs became more than he could physically and financially tackle, including a leaky roof. He needed a safe and healthy place to age in place and reached out to Rebuilding Together Tulsa.

Rebuidling Together Tulsa provided Mr. Charles with a new roof, ensuring that outside moisture such as rain and snow could not enter his home due to leaks. Mr. Charles also received Energy Efficiency repairs includ-ing attic insulation, sheetrock repair, and weather-stripping, making his home cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. These repairs will also lower his electric bills, which is so important for the clients we serve!

“I love my roof, I am just so happy you all could help me,” Mr. Charles said.

Rebuilding Together Tulsa provides free home repairs within 4 different programs.

Roofs: Roof repair or replacement.

Energy Efficiency: Attic insulation, weatherizing doors and windows, sealing large gaps and cracks, in-stalling CFL bulbs, etc.

Safe at Home: Wheelchair ramps, handrails, grab bars, ADA faucets, lever door handles, hand held showers, shower seats, raised toilets, smoke detectors, Co2 detectors, and other home modification repairs that provide for the safety of the homeowner.

R.O.O.T. Electrical, plumbing, door locks, carbon monoxide/smoke detectors, carpentry, paint prep, interior and exterior paint, yard clean-up, exterior house numbers, other repairs identified on a case-by-case basis.

we can rebuild homes.

Mr. Howard is 70 years old and has lived in his home for 34 years. He moved to Tulsa from Chicago in 1979 to help take care of his ailing father and mother. They have both since passed away, his mother living a full life until the age of 93.

He is joyful and pleasant to those who enter his home. He tried to make repairs on his own, but did not have the physi-cal or financial capability. Repairs were needed on his home to allow him to safely age in place.

Rebuilding Together Tulsa pro-vided Mr. Howard with a new roof, new windows, new doors, new siding and paint among other repairs. Our weekly vol-unteers re-sided Mr. Howard’s home and finished structural repairs on the interior and exterior to ensure Mr. Howard would have a safe place to call home!

“I am just so grateful,” Mr. Howard said.

Togetherwe can rebuild neighborhoods.

Rebuilding Together Tulsa’s 18th Annual Rebuild Day took place on April 25, 2015. On the Annual Rebuild Day, hun-dreds of volunteers come together from companies and organizations in the community to provide free home repairs for low-income homeowners in one neighborhood.

The 18th Annual Rebuild Day was a special day with Mrs. Doris and her family that all live on the same street. Ms. Do-ris, her daughters and her niece all own homes on the same street and all received free home repairs on the 18th Annual Rebuild Day!

One of the homeowners who received repairs was Ms. Mary. Several years ago, Ms. Mary had a serious house fire while she was sleeping in the house. She made it out alive and has since used the resources she has to begin repairs on her home. She completed a lot of them, but did not have the financial ability to finish. When she found out she would re-ceive free home repairs, she said, “You all are angels!”

Another homeowner, Ms. Raquel, said, “I could hardly sleep the night before because I was so excited for the volunteers to arrive. Around 7:10 I saw the first cars rolling into our cul-de-sac. We are all so blessed.”

Ms. Ebony worked side by side with volunteers. It was hard to distinguish her as the homeowner among the volunteers. She put on a volunteer shirt and was working hard to clear yard debris in her yard and the yards of the 3 other homeown-ers receiving repairs on her street.

Ms. Ebony’s 8 year-old daughter said, “I think it is so great that all of these people want to help my family!”

Ms. Sabdi has lived in her home for 8 years with her three children and works two 16-hour shifts so her children won’t have to go to babysitters.

She made repairs on her home to the best of her ability, but did not have the resources to ensure that her home was a safe, secure, and weatherproof place to raise her family.

Ms. Sabdi and her family received exterior wall repairs, en-ergy efficiency repairs, and flooring repairs all thanks to the generosity of funders, volunteers, and supporters!

When Ms. Sabdi learned she would be receiving free home repairs from Rebuilding Together Tulsa, she said, “When they told me they were coming, I didn’t think it was real!”

Thanks to the generosity of people like you, Ms. Sabdi has a safe and healthy place to call home and raise her family!
