A safe and healthy home is possible because of YOUFor the past seventeen years, Rebuilding Together Tulsa has been providing free home repairs for low-income Tulsa homeowners. None of this would be possible without the gen-erosity of people like you. Because of you, over 1,000 Tulsa neighbors have a more safe, se-cure, and weatherproof place to call home! 243 individuals were impacted by Rebuilding Together Tulsa’s services this year. Rebuilding Together Tulsa’s vision is “A safe and healthy home for every person”. With your continued support, we will continue to seek to provide a safe and healthy home for each of our Tulsa neighbors. Thank you!

What do we mean when we talk about a “Safe and Healthy Home?”

For Rebuilding Together Tulsa, it is not just an ab-stract concept or statistics. A safe and healthy home means modifying a bathroom so that an adult child can function independently despite his disability. It means that a family no longer hangs cardboard and blankets over a broken window to keep out the cold. It means replacing a roof so that an elderly woman no longer has to move buckets around her home to catch the leaks during a spring storm. It means tripping hazards are eliminated, secure doors are installed, damaged ceilings are repaired, attic insulation is blown in. It means peace of mind.

Rebuilding Together Tulsa can provide this peace of mind to limited income homeowners in Tulsa because of donors and volunteers like you. We are able to maintain and grow our programs, increase our neighborhood impact and plan to help additional neighborhoods because of the generosity of the Tulsa community.

Thank you for helping make a difference in the lives of your Tulsa neighbors!

It was an honor to serve as Rebuilding Together Tul-sa’s Board President for the 2013 – 2014 fiscal year. Through the work of tireless volunteers and staff and the contributions of many others, Rebuild-ing Together Tulsa continued to make an impact on the lives of homeowners in Tulsa by providing a safe, secure, and weatherproof living environ-ment.

The homeowners we served this year experienced decreased energy bills, improvements to their neighborhoods, assistance in their desire to remain living in their homes, and an increased sense of community as neighbors came together to serve each other in Tulsa. Together, we can end sub-standard housing.

Thank you for your support of Rebuilding Together Tulsa and the community we call home.

“The connection between health and dwelling is one of the most important that exists.“ -Florence Nightingale

What do we mean when we talk about a “Safe and Healthy Home?”

For Rebuilding Together Tulsa, it is not just an ab-stract concept or statistics.

A safe and healthy home means modifying a bath-room so that an adult child can function indepen-dently despite his disability. It means that a family no longer hangs cardboard and blankets over a broken window to keep out the cold. It means re-placing a roof so that an elderly woman no longer has to move buckets around her home to catch the leaks during a spring storm. It means tripping hazards are eliminated, secure doors are installed, damaged ceilings are repaired, attic insulation is blown in. It means peace of mind.

Rebuilding Together Tulsa can provide this peace of mind to limited income homeowners in Tulsa be-cause of donors and volunteers like you. We are able to maintain and grow our programs, increase our neighborhood impact and plan to help addi-tional neighborhoods because of the generosity of the Tulsa community.

Thank you for helping make a difference in the lives of your Tulsa neighbors!

Ms. Lilli likes to host the neighborhood children for snacks. However, after her ceiling collapsed, her home was unsafe for them and for her. She suffers from a breathing disorder and all of the dust from the collapsed sheetrock and insulation was causing her trouble. Her family is sup-portive and did all they could with the resources they had. They made an attempt at repairing the roof, but lacked the expertise for such a complicated repair, resulting in precipitation and warm and cool air entering the home through the holes in the ceiling.

She applied to Rebuilding Together Tulsa and was able to have her repair needs met. Ms. Lilli said, “I wake up every day thanking God for my new roof and new ceiling. My house is so much warmer.” Since the roof and ceilings have been repaired, Ms. Lilli has regained her breathing strength and can be found popping popcorn for the neighborhood children and hosting snacks in her home again.

Ms. Nancy has lived in her home for 25 years. She is battling stage four lung cancer. Her son and granddaughter recently moved back into her home to help care for her and take her to her appointments. The cancer has spread to her brain, and, as treatments increase, her body has become incredibly weak. She can stand up to answer the door but immediately sits back down in her recliner.

In order to safely enter and exit the home from doctor’s appointments, Ms. Nancy needed a wheelchair ramp out the front of her home.

Ms. Nancy and her son contacted Rebuilding Together Tulsa to apply for Safe at Home re-pairs. Volunteers donated the supplies to build Ms. Nancy a ramp. Rebuilding Together Tulsa’s weekly volunteers put their skills together to complete this project. Ms. Nancy’s son helped build the ramp right alongside volunteers!

Volunteers also provided an electric wheel-chair for Ms. Nancy to use for mobility in and out of the home.

When Ms. Nancy saw the chair and the ramp, her eyes lit up. “It is so good to see her smile. This will help her so much,” her son said.

Ms. Datha has lived in her home for 25 years. She has lived in Tulsa her whole life and was a middle school English and Physical Education Teacher for 13 years. She loves her home and lives there with her Yorkie, Nicky, who she affectionately calls her baby.

When Rebuilding Together Tulsa staff first visited her home, she said, “I would be thankful for any help I can get. I love my home, but it is just so much harder to keep it up now that I am getting older.”

Ms. Datha heats her home with two electric space heaters and gas logs. When RTT first visited her home, she was wearing gloves inside the house to stay warm. Light came in the edges of two of the doors in home, allowing cold air to slip in as well. Significant leaking occured around two of the windows when it rained. Her kitchen floor was deteriorating and was un-even as a result.

Thanks to the generosity of funders and volunteers like you, Ms. Datha now has a safe, secure, and weatherproof place to continue to call home!

Volunteers removed and rebuilt the back wall on Ms. Datha’s home, replaced siding on the outside, replaced windows, made ceiling repairs, replaced both the front and back door, and replaced the kitchen floor.

“Many thanks for your thoughtfulness and for the many ways you made my home nicer.”

“Wow! Thank you so much to everyone helping to ensure we are taken care of! This is the biggest gift we have received!”

Ms. Belen has lived in her home since she was in elementary school. Her mother deeded her the home, and she now lives there with her three children. They are 8, 7, and 4 years old.

There were visible holes in the ceiling throughout the home, and both bathrooms needed con-siderable work. One of the bathrooms had a constant leak, and the pipes froze and cracked every winter. The plumbing problems made the shower unusable. Ms. Belen and her children used the old fashioned bathtub in the second bathroom instead, however, the second bath-room’s toilet was falling through the floor.

Ms. Belen loves her family home, but due to physi-cal and financial inability, she was unable to make much needed repairs on her home to make it safe and secure for her and her children.

Thanks to the generosity of the George Kaiser Family Foundation and dedicated volunteers and support-ers like you, Ms. Belen and her children now have a safe, secure, and weatherproof place to call home. Ms. Belen and her family received new doors, struc-tural repair, plumbing repair, bathroom modifica-tions, ceiling and sheetrock repair, porch repairs, and a new roof.

After receiving the repairs, Ms. Belen said, “Thanks for turning this into a home again. Words cannot ex-press our gratitude.”
