March, 2012

Dear Chapter President and Members of the Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society,

Our Lenten journey provides the opportunity for spiritual reflection, drawing us closer to Christ through

prayer and fasting. The period of Great and Holy Lent prepares us for Holy Week, the Crucifixion and the

joyous Resurrection of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. It is an appropriate time for Philoptochos women

to affirm our relationship with the Lord, to strengthen our bond with one another through faithful service and

to renew our commitment of agape and compassion.

The 2012 National Philoptochos Biennial Convention in Phoenix, Arizona is fast approaching and we

want you to select your delegates so that we may celebrate together our great nation’s independence and

the 80th

anniversary of our outstanding Society under the Chairmanship of His Eminence Archbishop

Demetrios of America.

The Convention is the vehicle to promote growth, expand outreach and map the future of our mission to

benefit others through organized consideration and bold thinking. This gathering of sisters in Christ

offers an opportunity to share spirit, camaraderie and fellowship. It provides a forum for review of

existing programs, analysis of finances and forward planning. Creative, talented and thoughtful

Chairpersons Kathy Gabriel, Jeannie Ranglas and Diane Tseckares are scheduling informative discussion

groups, engaging presentations and exciting cultural events.

This year represents a milestone for the Society celebrating 80 years of dedication and devotion as the

heart of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America. The 2012 Clergy Laity Convention theme is

Chosen and Appointed by God to Go and Bear Fruit. The noble women of Philoptochos for many

generations work to feed the hungry, heal the infirmed, visit the weary, assist the needy and lift with

kindness the poor. Each Philoptochos woman exemplifies continuous love in action and contributes to

the sturdy established foundation of Philoptochos and its boundless legacy.

To ensure that the Philoptochos mission continues forever, your participation at the Convention is

required and necessary. It is your Society; the success of Philoptochos is a function of the total sum

efforts of all the great women that comprise our beautiful organization. You demonstrate, by your

deliberate good works, consciousness of the sufferings endured by the underprivileged and

disenfranchised. Be the chosen and appointed and offer healing, peace and hope.

You are invited to Phoenix in order to make a difference. Please attend and participate in what will be a most

enlightening, enjoyable and productive conference. I look forward to greeting you at the 2012 National

Philoptochos Convention and sharing this important time with you.

In Christ,

Aphrodite Skeadas
