OverviewRead this manual thoroughly tobecome familiar with how thenavigation system operates.

The navigation system includesnavigation and audio functions.

While entering the vehicle or whenturning the vehicle off, some DVDMap Disc noise is normal.

Keeping your eyes on the roadand your mind on the driveis important for safe driving.The navigation system has built-infeatures intended to help keepyour eyes on the road and mindon the drive. Some features maybe disabled while driving. Note thatthese functions will be grayed-out.A grayed-out function indicates itis not available when the vehicleis moving.

All functions are available when thevehicle is parked. Do the followingbefore driving:. Become familiar with the

navigation system operation,buttons on the faceplate, andtouch-sensitive screen buttonsof the navigation system.

. Set up the audio by presettingfavorite stations, setting thetone, and adjusting thespeakers.

. Set up the navigation featuresbefore beginning driving, suchas entering an address or apreset destination.

. Set up your phone numbersin advance so they can becalled easily with the pressof a single button or a singlevoice command (for navigationsystems equipped with phonecapability).

{ WARNING

Taking your eyes off the road toolong or too often while using thenavigation system could cause acrash resulting in injury or deathto you or others. Focus yourattention on driving.

{ WARNING

Avoid looking too long or toooften at the moving map on thenavigation screen. This couldcause a crash and you or otherscan be injured or killed. Use theturn-by-turn voice guidancedirections whenever possible.

Use the navigation system to:. Plan a route.. Select a destination using

various methods and choices.. Follow turn-by-turn route

and map guidance with voiceprompts, only if permitted bytraffic laws, controls, andconditions.

You should always be alert andobey traffic and roadway lawsand instructions, regardless ofthe guidance from the navigationsystem. Because the navigationsystem uses street map informationthat does not include all trafficrestrictions or the latest roadchanges, it may suggest usinga road that is now closed forconstruction or a turn that isprohibited by signs at theintersection. Because the systemuses limited information, you mustalways evaluate whether followingthe system's directions is safe andlegal for the current conditions.

When the navigation system isturned on, a screen may appearwith the information below, and youmust read and acknowledge theinformation it contains.

{ WARNING

Taking your eyes off the road forextended periods could cause acrash resulting in injury or deathto you or others.

To help avoid a crash in which youor others could be killed:. Always concentrate on your

driving first by keeping your eyesand mind on the road, and yourhands on the wheel.

. Follow system directions onlyif permitted by traffic laws,controls, and conditions.

. Before using this system, readthe owner's manual and learnhow it operates.

. Some system controls cannotbe used the when vehicle ismoving.

After you acknowledge the startup information you will be ableto access the NAV (navigation)and DEST (Destination) functions.Once accessed, you can enter ordelete information in the navigationsystem or access other functions.See instructions later in this section.

Every fifty times the vehicle isstarted and the navigation systemis turned on, the Caution screenappears. After reading the caution,select Agree to load the mapDVD information. If Agree is notselected, all control buttons exceptfor NAV (Navigation) and DEST(Destination) can be accessed.You can also press NAV to havethis Caution screen appear.

When getting started, set thenavigation system to yourpreference or delete informationyou may have entered usingvarious options.

To change the language of theprompts that appear on thenavigation screens, see “DriverInformation Center (DIC)” in theIndex of the vehicle's owner manual.

Deleting Personal Information

This navigation system can recordand store destinations. You maywant to delete stored destinationswhen the vehicle is sold or the leasehas expired. Refer to the followingsections to delete the destinationinformation that has been stored.

See “Memory Points,” “Home,”“Previous Destination,” and“Preset Destinations” under StoredLocations on page 52 for deletingstored destinations.

Storing Radio Station Presets

To set preset radio stations:

1. Press the power/volume knob toturn the system on.

2. Press SRCE and select thedesired band (AM, FM1, FM2,XM1, or XM2 (if equipped)).

3. UseO SEEK arrows to tune tothe desired station.

4. Press and hold one of the sixpreset screen buttons, at thebottom of the screen, until abeep is heard or the stationis displayed on the selectedpreset button.

5. Repeat the steps for eachpreset.

See “Preset Station Menu” underAM-FM Radio on page 14 for moreinformation.

Setting the Clock

To set the time:

1. Press the power/volume knob toturn the system on.

2. Press and hold the time displayin the upper right corner of anyscreen.

3. Select the 12H or 24H screenbutton to display the time instandard or military time.

4. Press and hold the Hour andMin. (minute) arrow buttons toincrease or to decrease the time.

5. Select the correct time zonescreen button.

6. Select the Daylight Saving Timescreen button, if necessary.

The radio uses the GPS satellite toset the time. The vehicle needs tobe in an open area to receive thesignal. See “Clock” under AM-FMRadio on page 14 for moreinformation.

Setting the Region, Enteringan Address and Point ofInterest, and Storing a HomeDestination and PresetDestinations

Before entering an Address,Point of Interest, Home, or PresetDestination, select the correctregion that contains the finaldestination. The vehicle mustbe stopped to do this operation.

Setting the Region

To set the region:

1. If the radio is already on witha map disc inserted, skip toStep 5.

2. Press the power/volume knob toturn the system on.

3. Insert the DVD map disc.See “Installing the Map DVD”under Maps on page 73 formore information.

4. A Caution may appear.Press Agree to proceed.

5. Press NAV.

6. Press MENU, located on thescreen.

7. Press < (Enter Destination).

8. Press the Region screen button.

9. Select the correct numberedregion that contains your finaldestination.

The system returns to the EnterDestination menu. See EnterDestination on page 37 for moreinformation.

Entering an Address

To set a destination by entering astreet address:

1. If the radio is already on witha map disc inserted, skip toStep 5.

2. Press the power/volume knob toturn the system on.

3. Insert the DVD map disc.See “Installing the Map DVD”under Maps on page 73 formore information.

4. A Caution may appear.Press Agree to proceed.

5. Press NAV.

6. Press MENU, located on thescreen.

7. Press <. Verify that the selectedRegion is correct.

8. Press2 (Address).

9. Enter the street name using thealpha keypad on the screen.

Do not enter street direction(i.e. N, S.E., or W) informationor type of street (i.e. road,lane, or court) to the address.Use the space symbol screenbutton (U) between streetor city names. Use thebackspace (V) screen buttonif an incorrect character hasbeen entered.

10. Select the type of street(Dr., Ln., St., etc.) if it applies,from the list.

11. If there is more than one city,the system displays the list ofcities that have a street withthat name. Select a city fromthe list or select the InputName screen button to enterthe city name.

12. Enter the house number usingthe numeric keypad on thescreen and press OK.

A map screen appears with thedestination marked.

13. Select h (Destination).

14. Select the Guide screenbutton.

15. Once driving begins, anaudio prompt “Proceed tothe highlighted route” is heard.The vehicle is now in routeguidance mode.

Entering a Point of Interest (POI)

To set a destination by entering aPoint of Interest (POI):

1. If the radio is already on witha map disc inserted, skip toStep 5.

2. Press the power/volume knob toturn the system on.

3. Insert the DVD map disc.See “Installing the Map DVD”under Maps on page 73 formore information.

4. A Caution may appear.Press Agree to proceed.

5. Press NAV.

6. Press the MENU screen button.

7. Press <. Verify that the selectedRegion is correct.

8. PressK (Point of Interest).

9. Enter the specific title of the POIin the Name space using thealpha keypad on the screen.

10. Select the POI from the list.

11. If there is more than one city,the system displays the list ofcities that have a street withthat name. Select a city fromthe list or select the InputName screen button to inputthe city name.

A map screen appears with thedestination marked.

12. Select h (Destination).

13. Select the Guide screenbutton.

14. Once driving begins anaudio prompt “Proceed tothe highlighted route” is heard.The vehicle is now in routeguidance mode.

Using the Category or Cityselections to help find the POIby limiting the search options.See “Point of Interest (POI)” underEnter Destination on page 37 formore information.

Storing a Home Destination

1. If the radio is already on witha map disc inserted, skip toStep 5.

2. Press the power/volume knob toturn the system on.

4. A Caution may appear.Press Agree to proceed.

5. Press NAV.

Storing a Preset Destination

9. Press the Add screen button,then select the numbered presetbutton for the destination toappear as.

10. Press Address and enter alladdress information.

11. Press OK.

A map screen appears with thedestination marked.

12. Press OK.

13. Press the back arrow screenbutton.

The numbered presetdestination is highlightedon the Enter Destinationscreen. See “Using YourHome or Preset Destinations”next in this section for moreinformation.

Using Your Home or PresetDestinations

These destinations are available forselection while driving.

1. If the radio is already on witha map disc inserted, skip toStep 5.

2. Press the power/volume knob toturn the system on.

3. Insert the DVD map disc.See “Installing the Map DVD”under Maps on page 73 formore information.

4. A Caution may appear.Press Agree to proceed.

5. Press NAV.

6. Press the MENU screen button.

7. Press <.

8. Select L or one of the availablepreset destination symbols.A map screen appears withthe destination marked.

9. Select h.

10. Select the Guide screenbutton.

11. Once driving begins an audioprompt “Proceed to thehighlighted route” is heard.The vehicle is now in routeguidance mode.

Canceling Guidance

Guidance is canceled once youarrive at the final destination.To cancel guidance prior to arrivalat the final destination:

1. Press NAV to access the mapscreen.

2. Press the MENU screen buttonon the map screen.

3. Press E (Route Options).

4. Press Cancel Guidance.

5. Press Yes to confirmcancellation.

Stored Locations

Once a destination has been stored,the address information can thenbe edited and deleted. See StoredLocations on page 52 for moreinformation on other features thatcan be stored, edited, and deleted.

To delete the stored homedestination:

1. Press the power/volume knob toturn the system on.

2. Insert the DVD map disc.See “Installing the Map DVD”under Maps on page 73 formore information.

3. A Caution may appear. PressAgree to proceed.

If the radio is already on with amap disc inserted, press NAV.

4. Press the MENU screen button.

5. Press N.

6. Press L.

7. Press Delete.

8. A confirmation pop-up screenappears: select Yes to delete;select No to cancel theoperation.

To delete a waypoint or a storedpreset destination:

1. Press the power/volume knob toturn the system on.

2. Insert the DVD map disc.See “Installing the Map DVD”under Maps on page 73 formore information.

3. A Caution may appear.Press Agree to proceed.

If the radio is already on with amap disc inserted, press NAV.

4. Press the MENU screen button.

5. Press N.

6. Press$ (Dest. & Way Pt.) or& (Previous Dest.).

7. Press Delete, then select theway point or the numberedpreset button to delete.

8. A confirmation pop-up screenappears: select Yes to delete;select No to cancel theoperation.

Guidance Volume

To adjust the volume of voiceguidance prompts:

1. Press NAV to access the mapscreen.

2. Press the MENU screen buttonon the map screen.

3. PressI (Navigation Set Up).

4. Press > (Guidance Volume).

5. Select the desired volume orselect Off. The system playsback the new volume level.

See “Guidance Volume” underNavigation Set Up on page 61for more information.

Cleaning the Display

If the panel or the display is stained,wipe it with a dry, soft cloth.

Notice: Using abrasive cleanerswhen cleaning glass surfaces,could scratch the glass. Whencleaning the glass, use only asoft cloth and do not spraycleaner directly on the system.

Do not apply spray cleaner directlyto the system, the cleaner couldaffect the mechanical parts.

Do not wipe the panel with a hardcloth or use a liquid that couldignite, such as thinner or alcohol, itcould scratch the surface or erasethe characters.

Radio

AM-FM RadioNotice: Before adding any soundequipment to the vehicle, suchas an audio system, CD player,CB radio, mobile telephone,or two-way radio, make surethat it can be added by checkingwith your dealer. Also, checkfederal rules covering mobileradio and telephone units.If sound equipment can beadded, it is very important todo it properly. Added soundequipment can interfere withthe operation of the vehicle'sengine, radio, or other systems,and even damage them.The vehicle's systems caninterfere with the operationof sound equipment that hasbeen added.

Notice: The chime signalsrelated to safety belts, parkingbrake, and other functions ofthe vehicle operate throughthe navigation system. If thatequipment is replaced oradditional equipment is addedto the vehicle, the chimesmay not work. Make sure thatreplacement or additionalequipment is compatible withthe vehicle before installingit. See “Accessories andModifications” in the vehicle'sowner manual.

Your vehicle has a feature calledRetained Accessory Power (RAP).RAP lets the audio system playafter the ignition is turned off. See“Retained Accessory Power (RAP)”in the Index of the vehicle's ownermanual for more information.

The audio system operates usingthe navigation system menus.

Playing the Radio

Power/Volume Knob: Press toturn the audio system on and off.Turn to increase or decrease thevolume to the audio system.

rO SEEKq :. Press and hold the up or down

arrow until a beep is heard to goto the next or previous stationand stay there.

. Press and hold either arrow toperform a fast seek.

SRCE (Source): Press to displaythe main audio screen.

Audio Adjust Screen

e /z (Audio/Adjust Screen):Press to view the audio and screensettings.

Automatic Volume Control(AVC): The audio system adjustsautomatically with AVC to makeup for road and wind noise whiledriving. The volume increases asvehicle speed increases.

To use AVC, set the volume to thedesired level and then press ON.To turn AVC off, select OFF.

If your vehicle is equippedwith a Bose® sound system,it includes Bose AudioPilot®

noise compensation technology.When turned ON, AudioPilotcontinuously adjusts the audiosystem equalization to compensatefor background noise, so that yourmusic always sounds the same atthe set volume level.

This feature works best atlower volume settings wherebackground noise may mask theaudio. At higher volume settings,where the audio is much louderthan the noise, there may be littleor no change in the audio level.For additional information onAudioPilot, visit www.bose.com/audiopilot.

To use this feature, set the volumeto the desired level and then pressON. To turn it off, select OFF.

Preset selection: This featureprograms local presets that arerecalled by pressing HOME. Presetscan also be programmed whiletraveling to another area and canbe stored under the AWAY setting.See “Preset Station Menu” later inthis section for more information.

Color Scheme: Select this featureto change the color of audio andnavigation screens. Press any of thecolor options to view the differentbackgrounds. Color option 1 is thedefault option.

Clock

Press the clock symbol at thebottom of the audio/adjust screenor press and hold the time displayin the upper right corner of anymenu to access the CLOCKADJUST menu. Pressing the timedisplay also displays the date on thestatus bar at the top of the screen.

The following time options can beadjusted from this menu:

Hour/Min.:. Press the up or down arrows to

increase or decrease the hour orminutes.

. Press and hold either arrow toadvance quickly.

12H/24H: Press 12H to displaythe time in standard time, or 24H todisplay the time in military time.

GPS TIME: The current GPStime is displayed to the right of thisbutton. Press GPS TIME to set thenavigation system's time to matchcurrent GPS time.

Daylight Saving Time: Press thisscreen button to increase the timesetting by one hour, then pressGPS TIME to save the new setting.If the screen button is light blue, thedaylight savings time feature is on.If the screen button is dark blue, thedaylight savings time feature is off.

TIME ZONE: The selected timezone appears to the right of thisscreen button. Press TIME ZONEto toggle through the available timezones until the desired time zoneis highlighted. The time of theselected zone is displayed to theright of GPS TIME. To set thesystem clock to the new setting,press GPS TIME.

If the system is not receiving GPSinformation, the time can still be setmanually as described above, butGPS time and Daylight Saving Timefeatures are not available.

Press the back screen button to goback to the previous menu.

Screen Adjust

To adjust the contrast or brightnessof the screen, press SCREENADJUST at the bottom of theaudio/adjust screen.

The following screen options canadjusted from this menu:

K (Contrast): Press + or − toadjust the contrast. The screenchanges. Press OK to confirm thechange.

! (Brightness): Press + or − toadjust the brightness. Press OK toconfirm the change.

AUTO: This setting automaticallyadjusts the contrast and brightnessof the screen based on outsidelighting conditions.

DAY: This setting leaves the screenin day mode which, is best suited fordaylight conditions.

NIGHT: This setting leaves thescreen in night mode which, is bestsuited for nighttime conditions.

SCREEN OFF: Press SCREENOFF to turn off the screen. Pressthe NAV, SRCE, or e /z (AudioAdjust) control buttons to turn thescreen back on.

OK: Press OK to save the changesand exit this menu.

SOUND: Press SOUND to accessthe SOUND menu. See “SoundMenu” later in this section for moreinformation.

Finding a Station

Press SRCE to display theoperation screen of the currentaudio source. Each operationscreen has an audio source screenbutton, (AM, FM1, FM2, XM1, XM2,if equipped, and CD). Press thedesired audio source to select it.

Preset Station Menu

Up to 30 stations, 6 AM, 6 FM1,6 FM2, 6 XM1, and 6 XM2,if equipped, can be programmed forhome and for away (XM does nothave the home and away feature).To store presets:

1. Turn the audio system on.

2. Press SRCE.

3. Press AM, FM1, FM2, XM1,or XM2, if equipped, to displaythe desired source. The presetstation menu appears.

4. Tune to the desired station byusingO /SEEK arrows.

5. Press SOUND to set the bass,mid-range, treble, and Auto ToneControl (ATC) for the preset,if desired. See “Sound Menu”later in this section for moreinformation.

6. Press and hold one of the sixnumbered preset screen buttonsfor more than two seconds untila beep is heard.

7. Repeat the steps for each presetand source.

SCAN:. Press to scan stations. The radio

Sound Menu

Press SOUND at the bottom of themain audio screen or source menuto change the tone, ATC, fade, andbalance for all sources. The audiosystem has a separate setting forthese features for each sourcepreset. However, the audio systemkeeps one fade and one balancesetting for all audio sources.

To adjust sound settings:. Press + or − signs to adjust

treble, mid-range, and bass,if in the Manual mode of ATC.

. Press the L (left) or R (right)to adjust the balance of thespeakers.

. Press the F (front) or R (Rear) toadjust the fade of the speakers.

. Press the ATC screen buttonto adjust the ATC setting. See“Adjusting the Speakers” later inthis section for more information.

After adjustments are made,press the back screen button to goback to the preset station menu.Whenever the back screen buttonis pressed, the previously storedinformation that was entered foreach preset station is recalled.

Adjusting the Speakers

ATC (Auto Tone Control): TheATC feature is used to provide achoice of six different listeningexperiences. ATC can be usedwhile listening to the audio systemor the CD player. The audio systemcan store separate ATC settings foreach source and preset station.

To save ATC settings for your presetstations, use the SOUND menu andpress ATC. See “Preset Stations”earlier in this section for moreinformation.

Radio Data System (RDS)

The audio system has a RadioData System (RDS). RDS featuresare available for use only onFM stations that broadcast RDSinformation. With RDS, the radiocan do the following:. Seek to stations broadcasting

the selected type ofprogramming

. Receive announcementsconcerning local and nationalemergencies

. Display messages from radiostations

. Seek to stations with trafficannouncements

RDS (Radio Data System): PressRDS to use alternate RDS functionslocated in the preset menu. Afterpressing RDS, quickly chooseRDS ON/OFF, TA, INFO, PTY,or Select PTY. If a selection isnot made, the system returnsto the previous menu.

If tuned to a station broadcastingRDS information, the station'sProgram Service (PS) and ProgramType (PTY) replaces the station'sfrequency on the status line at thetop of the display. After aboutfive seconds, if available, the PTYis replaced on the display by thestation's PTY name. The PTY andPTY name can be the same ordifferent.

If the audio system is tuned to astation that is not broadcasting RDSinformation, the station's frequencyremains on the display.

The RDS feature relies uponreceiving specific information fromRDS stations. These features onlywork when RDS information isavailable.

TA (Traffic Announcement):Press TA to receive trafficannouncements. TA displaysif the current station broadcaststraffic announcements. If the currentstation does not broadcast trafficannouncements, the audio systemseeks to a station that does andstops. If no station is found,TA turns off.

While a traffic announcement plays,the audio system uses TA volume.To increase TA volume, use theVOL up or down buttons duringthe announcement. See “VoiceGuidance Volume Settings” underNavigation Set Up on page 61for more information.

When a traffic announcementcomes on the current radio station,it can be heard even if the volumeis muted or a CD is playing. If theCD player was being used, the CDstays in the player and resumesplay at the point where it stopped.

Press RDS followed by TA again toturn TA off.

INFO (Information): When RDSis on, if the current station has amessage, INFO displays. PressINFO from the preset menu toview the message. If the wholemessage does not display, partsof the message appears everythree seconds until the messageis completed. Once the completemessage has been displayed, INFOdisappears from the display untilanother new message is received.INFO remains available so that theentire message an be displayedagain.

PTY (Program Type): PTY onlyseeks stations with certain programtypes. This button is used to turnon and off Program Type (PTY)features.

With RDS on, press RDS, followedby PTY. The PTY display turns on.Press RDS followed by this buttonagain to turn the PTY display off.

Select PTY (Select ProgramType): With RDS and PTY on,press RDS, then Select PTY.The PTY menu appears. Use the upand down arrows to select a PTY.

When the PTY display is on,pressO /SEEK or SCAN to findradio stations of the PTY selected.The last PTY selected is used forseek and scan modes. If a stationwith the selected PTY is not found,STATION NOT FOUND displays.If both PTY and TA are on, theaudio system searches for stationswith traffic announcements and theselected PTY.

PTY (Program Type) Presets:The six presets let you return toyour favorite PTYs. These presetshave factory PTY preset stations.See “RDS Program Type (PTY)Selections” later in this section.Up to 12 PTYs, 6 FM1 and 6 FM2can be set. To save a PTY preset:

1. Press FM1 or FM2.

2. Press RDS to enter theRDS menu.

3. Press RDS ON/OFF to turnRDS on.

4. Press PTY.

5. Press Select PTY and select thedesired PTY from the list.

6. Press and hold one of thesix presets for more thantwo seconds until a beep isheard. When you press thatnumbered preset for less thantwo seconds, the set PTYreturns.

7. Repeat the steps for eachpreset.

Press the stored PTY preset stationfor less than two seconds to recallit. Then useO /SEEK or SCANto locate a station for that PTYselection.

ALERT: This type ofannouncement warns ofnational or local emergenciesand cannot be turned off.ALERT displays while an alertannouncement plays. The audiosystem uses TA volume duringthese announcements. To increasevolume, use the VOL up and downbuttons during the announcement.See “Voice Guidance VolumeSettings” under Navigation Set Upon page 61 for more information.When an alert announcementcomes on the tuned radio station itwill be heard even if the volume ismuted or a CD is playing. If the CDplayer is playing, the player stopsfor the announcement and resumeswhen the announcement is finished.

Home and Away PresetStations

If the vehicle has this feature, theaudio system settings that wereadjusted the last time the vehiclewas operated can be recalled.This feature allows two differentdrivers to store and recall their ownaudio system settings. The adjustedsettings are recalled by the audiosystem and are determined bywhich Remote Keyless Entry (RKE)transmitter (1 or 2) that was used toenter the vehicle. The number onthe back of the RKE transmittercorresponds to driver 1 or todriver 2.

The audio system can storeHOME and AWAY preset stations.HOME and AWAY preset stations

allow the use of one set of presetradio settings in a local area, andanother set that are not in the localbroadcast area. This eliminates theneed to reprogram preset stationswhile travelling out of the area.

To select HOME and AWAY presetstations:

1. Press AUDIO to enter the audioscreen.

2. Press the HOME or AWAYbutton.

The next time the audio systemis turned on, the system recallsthe last active preset selection.

If the vehicle loses battery power,the local preset stations do not haveto be reset. However, the non-localpreset stations must be reset.

INFO (Information): PressINFO while in XM mode to retrievevarious pieces of information relatedto the current song or channel.By pressing INFO, four differentcategories of information can beretrieved that cycle through: Artist

Name/Feature, Song/ProgramTitle, Channel Category, and otherAdditional Information that maybe broadcast on that channel.Additional Information messagesmay only be available at certaintimes or on certain programs. If anAdditional Information messageis being broadcast on the tunedchannel, INFO displays.

Each of the four information typesmay have multiple pages of text.To reach a category, press INFOonce and wait until the desired typedisplays. If there are multiple pagesof text for the information selectedtype, the radio automaticallydisplays all the pages for that typeat a rate of about one page everythree seconds before timing out andreturning to the default display.

XM™ Radio Messages

See “XM™ Radio Messages” in thevehicle's owner manual for a list ofpossible XM messages.

Audio Players

CD PlayerTo load/eject a music CD, do thefollowing:

1. Turn the ignition on.

2. Press the faceplate tilt controlbutton. This opens the faceplateof the system.

3. Press the eject control buttonwith the CD symbol. If a CD isalready loaded, the CD ejectsfrom the slot.

4. Gently remove the CD from theslot and return it to its case.

5. Insert the music CD into the slot.The system pulls the disc intothe player.

6. Press and release the faceplatetilt control button to close thefaceplate.

When the faceplate is opened, awarning message displays as areminder to close the faceplateas soon as possible.

Playing a CD

Once a music CD is loaded, the CDplayer menu displays.

If the ignition or radio is turned offwhile a CD is in the player, it staysin the player. When the ignition orradio is turned on, the CD starts toplay where it stopped, if it was thelast selected audio source.

As each new track starts to play, thetrack number displays.

The CD player can play the smaller8 cm (3 in) single CDs with anadapter ring. Full-size CDs and thesmaller CDs are loaded in the samemanner.

If playing a CD-R the sound qualitycan be reduced due to CD-Rquality, the method of recording, thequality of the music that has beenrecorded, and the way the CD-Rhas been handled. There can bean increase in skipping, difficultyin finding tracks, and/or difficultyin loading and ejecting. If theseproblems occur, check the bottomsurface of the CD. If the surfaceof the CD is damaged, such ascracked, broken, or scratched, theCD does not play properly. If thesurface of the CD is soiled, takea soft lint free cloth, or dampen aclean soft cloth in mild detergentsolution mixed with water, and cleanit. Make sure the wiping processstarts from the center to the edge.

If there is no apparent damage, try aknown good CD.

Notice: If a label is added to aCD, more than one CD is insertedinto the slot at a time, or anattempt is made to play scratchedor damaged CDs, the CD playercould be damaged. While usingthe CD player, use only CDs ingood condition without any label,load one CD at a time, and keepthe CD player and the loading slotfree of foreign materials, liquids,and debris.

Do not add any label to a CD as itcould get caught in the CD player.If a description label is needed,label the top of the CD with a softmarker.

Playing a CD Changer

If the vehicle has the CD changer,it can play up to six discs. Normalsize discs may be played using thetrays supplied in the magazine. Thesmaller discs (8 cm) can be playedonly with specially designed trays.

The magazine must be loaded withCDs before one can play. Each ofthe six trays holds one CD.

Load the trays from bottom to top,placing a disc in the tray label sideup. If a CD is loaded with the labelside down, the disc does not playand an error occurs. Repeat thisprocedure for loading up to six discsin the magazine.

Once you have loaded the discsinto the magazine, slide the CDchanger door open. Push themagazine into the changer in thedirection of the arrow marked ontop of the magazine.

Close the door by sliding it all theway to the right. When the dooris closed, the changer beginschecking for discs in the magazine.This continues for up to one anda half minutes, depending on the

number of discs loaded. Noisemight be heard, but this is normal.The CD changer is initializing.

To eject the magazine from theplayer, slide the CD changer doorall the way open. Press EJECT,located inside of the changerdoor, and the magazine ejects.Remember to keep the door closedwhenever possible to keep dirt anddust from getting inside the changer.

To eject CDs from the magazine,push the RELEASE switch on thebottom of the magazine.

Press the CD control button toaccess the six-disc CD changerscreen. The system's DVD playerfor single CD play can also be usedonce the map DVD is removed.See “CD/DVD Player” later in thissection for more information.

If no CD is loaded in the CD/DVDPlayer and CD is pressed, themessage “No CD loaded” displays.

MP3 Format

When creating an MP3 disc, thefollowing is a list of guidelines.If these guidelines are not followedwhile recording a CD-R(W), the CDmay not play.. ID3 tag information is displayed

by the radio if it is available.The radio supports ID3 taginformation v1.0 or v1.1. Theradio displays a filename, songname, artist name, album name,and directory name.

. Maximum 31 characters,including spaces, in a fileor folder name.

. Maximum number of foldersis 500 with 500 files with amaximum hierarchy of eightfolders. It is recommended tokeep the depth of folders to aminimum in order to keep downthe complexity and confusionin trying to locate a particularfolder during playback.

. Create a folder structure thatmakes it easy to find songswhile driving. Organize songsby albums using one folder foreach album. Each folder oralbum should contain 18 songsor less.

. The files can be recordedon a CD-R or CD-RW with amaximum capacity of 700MB.

. DVD with MP3 are not playableon this system.

. The radio does not play a mixedmode CD-R/RW, a disc recordedwith both *.cda and *.mp3 files.

. The player supports a discwith multiple sessions, but itis not required that the disc befinalized. It is recommended torecord the disc all at once.

. Recording format mode 2 ormode 2XA with Romeo or Jolietfile system is not supported withthis player.

. All applicable Mode 1 recordingformats are supported.

. MPEG 2.5 is not supportedwith this player. File formatsMPEG 1 and MPEG 2 with all bitrates (including variable) exceptless than 16kbps are supportedwith this player.

CD ERROR could display for thefollowing:. The road is too rough. The CD

should play when the road issmoother.

. The CD is dirty, scratched, wet,or not loaded label side up.

. The air is very humid. If so, waitabout an hour and try again.

If any error occurs repeatedly orif an error cannot be corrected,contact your dealer.

Vehicles with audio controls, havesome controls that can be adjustedat the steering wheel. See “AudioSteering Wheel Controls” in thevehicle's owner manual for moreinformation.

Connecting a USB StorageDevice or iPod®

The USB Port, located in the centerconsole, can be used to control aniPod or a USB storage device.

To avoid connection problems,extension cords are notrecommended. Use only thecable that came with the device.

To connect a USB storage device,connect the device to the USB portlocated in the center console.

To connect an iPod, connect oneend of the USB cable that camewith the iPod to the iPod’s dock

connector and connect the otherend to the USB port. If the vehicle ison and the USB connection works,“OK to disconnect” may appear onthe iPod and iPod appears on theradio's display. The iPod musicappears on the radio’s displayand begins playing.

The iPod charges while it isconnected to the vehicle if thevehicle is in the ACC/ACCESSORYor ON/RUN position. When thevehicle is turned off, the iPodautomatically powers off and willnot charge or draw power fromthe vehicle's battery.

If the iPod is a model that is notsupported, it can still be listenedto in the vehicle by connecting itto the Auxiliary Input Jack usinga standard 3.5 mm (1/8 in) stereocable. See Auxiliary Devices onpage 34.

Auxiliary DevicesThe navigation system has anauxiliary input jack located in thecenter console. This is not an audiooutput; do not plug the headphoneset into the front auxiliary inputjack. You can however, connectan external audio device such asan iPod, laptop computer, MP3player, CD changer, or cassettetape player, etc. to the auxiliaryinput jack for use as anothersource for audio listening.

Drivers are encouraged toset up any auxiliary devicewhile the vehicle is in P (Park).See “Defensive Driving” in theIndex of the vehicle's owner manualfor more information on driverdistraction.

If the vehicle has rear audio/videoinput jacks, located in the rear of thecenter console, they can be usedas another source for audio/videolistening.

To use a portable audio player,connect a 3.5 mm (1/8 in) cable tothe auxiliary input jack. When adevice is connected, the systemwill detect and automatically beginplaying audio from the device overthe vehicle's speakers.

If a device is connected and you arelistening to another source (FM, CD,MP3, etc.), press the AUX screenbutton located on the left side ofthe screen. If the AUX is not aselection, press the down arrowuntil the AUX screen button doesappear.

Using the NavigationSystemThis section has basic informationon how to operate the navigationsystem.

Use the buttons located on thenavigation system along with theavailable touch-screen buttons onthe navigation screen to operate thesystem. See Overview on page 4for more information.

Once the vehicle is moving, somefunctions are disabled to reducedriver distractions.

Navigation Buttons

The following buttons are locatedon the faceplate of the navigationsystem:

X (Open/Close Faceplate): Pressthis button, located at the bottom ofthe Navigation Screen, to open orclose the faceplate.

Alpha-Numeric Keypad

Letters of the alphabet, symbols,punctuation, and numbers aredisplayed on the navigation screenas an alpha or numeric keypad.The alpha keypad displays whena city or street name needs to beentered. Touch the Sym. (symbol)screen button at the bottom of thealpha keypad to access the numerickeypad when entering a houseaddress, punctuation mark, or othercharacter. Touch A - Z to returnto the alpha keypad.

All characters are touch-sensitivescreen buttons. Touch a characterto select it.

U (Space): Press to enter aspace between characters or thewords of a name.

V (Back space): Press if anincorrect character has beenselected.

To make name selections easier,the system only lets you select acharacter which can follow the lastone entered. For example, if a Z isentered, a T is not be available toselect. The system highlights theavailable characters.

If a name does not display after it isentered, it may need to be entereddifferently, the map DVD databasemay not contain that information,or the correct search area hasnot been selected. See DatabaseCoverage Explanations on page 84for more information.

Touch-Sensitive Buttons

Touch-sensitive buttons arelocated on the screen. When ascreen button has been selected,a beep sounds. These buttonsare highlighted when a feature isavailable. There are also sometoggle screen buttons that arelight in color when active.

Keyless Access System

When the vehicle is started,Driver 1 or Driver 2 displays onthe Driver Information Center (DIC).The number on the back of the RKEtransmitter corresponds to driver 1or driver 2. The navigation systemcan store memory points, audiopresets, system settings, and lastknown audio mode for driver 1 anddriver 2 individually. See “VehiclePersonalization” in the index of thevehicle's owner manual for moreinformation.

Enter Destination

Press < (Enter Destination) toaccess the ENTER DESTINATIONscreen. From this screen, severaloptions are available to plan a routeby entering destination points.

Once a destination entry iscomplete, regardless of whichmethod used, a map screen withthe destination previewed displays.. Change route preferences,

route options, map appearances,or add a waypoint at this time.

. Set the destination withoutmaking any further changes.See “Getting Started on YourRoute” in this section for moreinformation on your choicesonce a destination has beenentered.

This menu has two pages.To view the second page, pressthe 1/2 arrow button.

Region

The ENTER DESTINATION screendisplays a map of the United Statesand a part of Canada divided into11 regions.

Before selecting a destination entrymethod, review the search areamap to make sure your destinationis located in the highlighted region.

1. Press Region from the ENTERDESTINATION screen to seea list of states included in thehighlighted region, or to changethe region. The SEARCH AREAscreen displays.

2. Press the numbered screenbutton to the left of the searcharea map that corresponds withthe numbered region you wish toselect or to view a list of statesincluded in that region.

3. Press the down arrow to the leftof the search area map to selectCAN (Canada). Once the regionhas been selected, the region ishighlighted on the map.

Address

The address destination entrymethod lets you enter an addressby providing the system with astreet name or city.

2 (Address): Press to accessthe ADDRESS screen. Enter theaddress one of two ways: streetfirst or city first.

To enter the street name first:

1. Press the Street screen buttonfrom the address menu and startentering the street name usingthe alpha keypad. A list of fiveor fewer available street namesautomatically display. Press theList screen button at any time toview the available street names.The box at the end of the Streetentry field contains the numberof street names available in thecurrent generated list.

2. Select the desired street namewith the correct designation(Dr., Ln, St., etc.) from the list.

3. If the system determines that thestreet is found in only one citywithin the search area, that cityautomatically is selected.

If there is more than one city,the system displays the list ofcities that have a street with thatname. Select a city from the listor select the Input Name screenbutton to enter the city name.

4. The house number screendisplays, enter the housenumber using the numerickeypad.

5. Once the correct house numberis selected, press OK.

A map screen appears with thedestination marked.

6. Press h (Destination).

Point of Interest (POI)

The Point of Interest (POI)destination entry method letsyou select a destination fromthe POI list.

K (Point of Interest): Pressthis screen button from the ENTERDESTINATION screen to accessthe POINT OF INTEREST screen.

This screen has three options toselect/input the destination. Eitherenter the name of the POI usingthe alpha keypad, select a categoryfrom the category list, or select thecity by selecting the City screenbutton.

To input the POI name:

1. Use the alpha keypad to enterthe POI name.

Press Sym. (symbol) to selectsymbols and numbers for thePOI, press Others to selectspecial characters for the POI,or press A - Z to return to thealpha keypad.

A list of POIs appear usingthe information from the alphakeypad input. A list of availablePOIs display when there areless than five POIs available.Press the List screen buttonat any time to view theavailable POIs.

2. Select the desired POI fromthe list.

2. Select a destination point fromthe list. Press Name Sort to sortthe list by name, or Dist Sort tosort the list by distance from thevehicle's current position.

After selecting a destination fromthe list, a map screen appearswith the destination marked.

To use the previous start pointoption from the PREVIOUSDEST screen, press thePrevious Start Point screenbutton.

Intersection

The intersection destination entrymethod allows two intersectingstreets to be set as the destination.

1. Enter the first of two streetsin the intersection. A list ofavailable street names displaywhen there are less than fiveavailable. Press the List screenbutton at any time to view theavailable street names.

2. Select a street from the list,or continue to spell the streetname to further reduce thenumber of available streetnames.

3. After the first street has beenselected, enter the second streetname. The List button may againbecome available.

1. Enter the freeway name.Use abbreviations, such asI - 75, rather than spelling outInterstate.

Select an exit/entrance pointfrom the list or input the point byname. Sort the list by name orby distance.

After selecting a point from thelist, a map screen appears withthe destination marked.

3. Press h.

Phone Number

The phone number destinationentry method lets you select adestination by entering a phonenumber. The phone number must bein the list of POIs that is containedon the map DVD for the system toretrieve the destination.

U (Phone Number): Pressthis button from the ENTERDESTINATION screen to accessthe PHONE NUMBER screen.

To use this destination entrymethod:

1. Input the phone number of a POIusing the numeric keypad.

If the phone number canbe found on the map DVD, amap screen appears with thedestination marked. If the phonenumber is dependent on thearea code, a list of POIs appearto select from. Once a POI isselected, a map screen appearswith the destination marked.

2. Press h.

If the coordinates are outside ofthe coverage area on the map,a message that there is noinformation on that locationdisplays.

This feature lets you plan a route toone previously stored destinationthat you have selected as a home.If a home destination is not stored,the home button is not available.Besides preset destinations onethrough five, this destination is theonly other one that can be set byvoice recognition while the vehicleis moving.

To store, edit, or delete a homelocation, see Stored Locations onpage 52 for more information.

L (Home): Press this button fromthe ENTER DESTINATION screento set a home destination.

To use this destination entrymethod:

1. Press the Home button from theENTER DESTINATION screen.

Three Routes

The 3 routes screen gives youa selection of selecting threedifferent routes to get you to yourdestinations. To use the 3 routesoption:

1. Press the 3 routes button on themap screen.

The system calculates up tothree different versions of yourcurrent route in three different

colors: Quick, Normal, andShort. The routes are shownwith distance to destinationand estimated travel time,or select the Info screen buttonto access the INFO FOR 3ROUTES screen. From thisscreen, you can view thefollowing information:

. G (Estimated TravelTime) — Shows the route'sestimated time of travel.

. J (Straight-LineDistance) — Shows theroute's straight-line distanceto destination.

. W (Toll Road) — Showsthe distance traveled ontoll roads.

. c (FreewayTravel) — Shows thedistance traveled onfreeways.

. b (Ferry) — Shows thedistance traveled by ferry.

. { (Time RestrictedRoads) — Shows thedistance traveled ontime-restricted roads.

2. Press the Quick, Normal,or Short screen button.

Stored Locations

Press N (Stored Locations) fromthe NAV. MENU to access theSTORED LOCATIONS screen.From this screen, you can accessthe following options:

Memory Points

N Memory Points: This featurecan store memory points in thesefour categories: Personal, Business,Entertainment, and Marked Point.The category names can bechanged.

To store a point:

1. Press Memory Points from theSTORED LOCATIONS screen.

2. Select one of thefolders/categories listed.

3. Press the Add screen button.

4. Select the desired method ofentering a destination to enterthe memory point. See EnterDestination on page 37 formore information. A map screenappears displaying the selectedmemory point location.

5. If available, press INFO to viewthe address information of theselected point.

6. Press OK to store the point as amemory point.

To edit the name of a stored point:

1. Press Memory Points from theSTORED LOCATIONS screen.

2. Select the folder/category thatthe memory point exists in.

3. Press the List screen button.

4. Select the memory point to edit.Use the sort feature to sort bydistance, icon, name, or dateas needed.

5. Press Icon from the EDITMEMORY POINT screen.

6. Select the desired icon.There are two pages (52) icons,six icons that have soundsassociated with them, and aNo Icon button to select from.

Press the With Sound screenbutton, and the sound iconsdisplay. To hear the soundof the icon, press the Soundscreen button next to eachicon. If the sound icons areused, the associated soundis heard when the vehicle isapproximately 200 m (650 ft)from the memory point.

Press the No Icon screen buttonto not have an icon associatedwith the point.

The new icon displays in theEDIT MEMORY POINT screen,next to the Icon screen button.

7. Press the back screen button tostore the change.

To move the memory point from onefolder/category to another:

1. Press Memory Points from theSTORED LOCATIONS screen.

2. Select the folder/category thatthe memory point currentlyexists in.

3. Press the List screen button.

4. Select the memory point to edit.Use the sort feature to sort bydistance, icon, name, or date asneeded.

5. Press Category from theEDIT MEMORY POINT screen.

6. Press the new folder/categorybutton you want to move thememory point to.

The system displays a messageconfirming the move.

To modify the position of the storedpoint:

8. The system returns to theEDIT MEMORY POINT screenand displays the new address,longitude, and latitude for thechanged memory point.

To change the phone number of amemory point:

1. Press Memory Points screenbutton from the STOREDLOCATIONS screen.

2. Select the folder/category thatthe memory point exists in.

3. Press the List screen button.

4. Select the memory point to edit.Use the sort feature to sort bydistance, icon, name, or dateas needed.

5. Press Tel. (telephone) from theEDIT MEMORY POINT screen.

6. Use the numeric keypad tochange the phone number.

7. Press OK to store the changedphone number.

To delete a memory point:

1. Press Memory Points from theSTORED LOCATIONS screen.

2. Select the folder/category thatthe memory point exists in.

3. Press Delete.

4. Select the memory point todelete from the DELETE POINTscreen. Use the sort feature tosort by distance, icon, name ordate as needed.

5. The system displays the mapscreen with the position addressand a pop-up confirmationmessage. Select Yes to deletethe point; select No to return tothe DELETE POINTS screenand not delete the point.

To delete all of the memory points ina folder/category:

1. Press Memory Points from theSTORED LOCATIONS screen.

2. Select the desiredfolder/category.

To change the name of thefolder/category:

1. Press Memory Points from theSTORED LOCATIONS screen.

2. Select the desiredfolder/category.

3. Press Edit Category.

Avoid Area

3 (Avoid Area): This feature letsyou store an area to be avoidedwhile planning a route. Up to10 points can be stored.

To store an avoid area point:

1. Press Avoid Area from theSTORED LOCATIONS screen.

2. Press Add from theAVOID AREA screen.

3. Select the desired method ofentering a destination to enterthe memory point. See EnterDestination on page 37 formore information. A map screenappears displaying the selectedmemory point location.

4. If desired, reduce or enlarge thearea around the point you wantto avoid by using the Reduce orEnlarge screen buttons.

It is recommended that whenavoiding locations on freeways,you reduce the avoid area to theminimum scale. This producesan X on the map rather thana box. This ensures that thesystem knows you want toavoid the freeway itself, notnecessarily the area aroundthe freeway.

5. Press OK to store the area.

Destination and Waypoint

6 Dest. & Way Pt. (Destinationand Waypoint): Waypoints aredestinations that can be addedto your route before reaching thefinal destination. Waypoints canbe added before or after enteringa final destination. Waypoints thatwere entered prior to setting a finaldestination, will delete if a finaldestination has not been entered.Up to five points can be stored aswaypoints.

To add a waypoint:

1. Press Dest. & Way Pt. from theSTORED LOCATIONS screen.

2. Press Add from theDEST. & WAY POINT screen.

3. Using the desired method ofentering a destination, enter theway point. See Enter Destinationon page 37 for more information.

A map screen appears with theway point marked.

4. Select o (Way Point) icon onthe map screen to save the waypoint.

5. Repeat Steps 2 - 6 to add upto five way points to your route.After the first waypoint hasbeen saved, the ADD WAYPOINT screen appears andthe waypoint is on the screen.The second through the fifthwaypoint does not appear onthe ADD WAY POINT screenuntil the ADD button, next tothe corresponding waypointrow, is pressed. After the ADDbutton has been pressed,the system returns to theSTORED LOCATIONS screen.

To change the order of thewaypoints:

1. Press Dest. & Way Pt. from theSTORED LOCATIONS screen.

2. Press List from theDEST. & WAY POINT screen.

3. From the CHANGE ORDERscreen, select on the addresses,in the order you would likethem to fall on the route.After selecting the addressline, a number, indicating theorder, appears next to thecorresponding row.

4. Select OK to save the changes.The system returns to theSTORED LOCATIONS screen.

To store a preset destination:

2. Press Add to add a presetdestination, then select thenumbered preset button forthe destination to appear as.

Quick POI

1. Press this screen button toselect a POI as a destination.A list of all of the local POIswithin a 8 km (5 mi) radius ofyour vehicle's current positionwill display. This list is generatedfrom the POI categories thathave been selected and appearat the top of the QUICK POIscreen.

Use the Sort by Dist. (distance),Icon, Name, or Route screenbuttons. Use the up and downscroll arrow screen buttons toscroll through the list.

2. Select the POI. The mapscreen displays with the scrollsymbol around the selectedPOI. The name and the POIinformation will also displayon the map screen.

3. Press h.

4. Press the Guide screen button.

To correct the position of yourvehicle on the map (for example,if your vehicle has been shipped)or to change to the current position.

1. Press the Position/Directionscreen button.

The map screen displays withthe vehicle's current position.

2. To change the vehicle's position,press the map screen.

Use the zoom in/out functionto view the direction of thedesired area.

Pressing/holding and draggingon the map activates fastscrolling. Press once on thearea where the current positionmark should be moved.

3. Press OK once the vehicle is inthe current position.

If a route had already been set,the map screen displays, pressGuide to change your route tothe vehicle's new position.

Once the process of changingthe vehicle's current positionis complete, the map screendisplays with rotate arrow screenbuttons around the vehicle.

4. To change the direction of yourvehicle, press either arrow toturn the vehicle to the correctdirection.

5. Once the vehicle is facing thecorrect direction, select OK.

If there are tire pressure differencesor a spare tire is installed, thesystem automatically re-calibratesthe system but it may take longer.To calibrate the vehicle speedsignal, press the Distance screenbutton. See Vehicle Positioning onpage 82 for more information.

J (User Settings): Press thisbutton from the NAVIGATION SETUP screen. This feature allowsseveral route options to be turnedon or off.

From this screen, adjust thefollowing:

Road Restriction Warnings:Instructs the system to notify youwhen the current route has trafficrestrictions.

Restore System Defaults

D (Restore System Defaults):Select this feature from theNAVIGATION SET UP screen tochange all adjustable systemsettings to factory defaults.

OK: Press to restore the systemdefaults.

Average Speed Default: Press toset the average speed to default.The system monitors the speedon different roads and updatesthe vehicle's average speed.This average speed is used tocalculate the time it takes to reachthe destination when a route is set.

Guidance Volume

> (Guidance Volume): Press toadjust the volume of voice guidanceprompts. Press Off to turn voiceguidance prompts off.

Detour

7 (Detour): Select a detour ifthere is construction work, or trafficdelays that prevent the originalroute from being used.

From this screen, you can select a1 mile, 3 mile, or 5 mile detour orselect to detour the whole route.After selecting the detour, thesystem calculates the alternateroute and the new route displayson the map screen.

Route Preferences

F Route Pref. (RoutePreferences): You can selectto have certain types of roads/ferries included in your route.See “Getting Started on YourRoute” under Enter Destination onpage 37 for more information.

The following route preferences canbe selected on or off:

c (Allow Major Roads): Press touse expressways when calculatinga route. If there is no way to reach

your destination without using majorroads, the system automaticallyincludes major roads.

l (Allow Time Restricted Road):Press to use time restricted roadswhen calculating a route. These areroads that may be closed during thewinter season.

W (Allow Toll Road): Press touse toll roads or pay roads whencalculating a route.

b (Allow Ferry): Press to useferries when calculating a route.

Calculate: Press to update thechanges in the current route.The map screen displays.

If any of these features are turnedoff, the button is dark and there is ared slash through the icon on themap screen.

Once the route preferences havebeen set, select the back button toreturn to the previous screen.

Route Preview

G (Route Preview): Press thisbutton from the ROUTE OPTIONSmenu to preview the entire route ineither direction and to edit the route.

b t (Skip to Start Point): Pressto skip backward to the start point,the previous waypoint, or theprevious available POI, dependingon the mode selected.

Head-Up Display (HUD)

When a route is planned theHead-Up Display (HUD) willdisplay information when thevehicle is approaching a turn.This information displays whenthe vehicle is 80 km (0.5 mi) awayfrom a turn in residential areas and2.0 km or 2.0 mi away from a turnon freeways.

A. Directional Arrow — Displaysthe direction of the next turn.

B. Distance Bar — This willdecrease as the vehicleapproaches the turn.

C. Street Name Line — Displaysthe name of the street that youwill be turning on.

D. Mile/KilometerScale — Indicates thescale of the distance bar.The scale is 0.80 km (0.5 mi)in residential areas and2.0 km or 2.0 mi on freeways.This value changes as youapproach the turn.

After completing a turn, the HUDdisplays the name and distance ofthe next street you are turning onfor 10 seconds.

When HUD is displaying theturn-by-turn guidance information,the vehicle's shift lever gear doesnot display in the HUD. The geardisplays on the Driver InformationCenter (DIC) screen. Once thedestination has been reached orguidance is cancelled, the HUDdisplays the gear information again.See Head-Up Display (HUD) inthe Index of your vehicle's ownermanual for more information.

The maps are stored on aDVD-ROM. The 48 contiguousUnited States and portions ofCanada are contained on two discs.To minimize the necessity ofchanging the discs, both map discscover US6, US7, and Canada.

Installing the DVD Map Disc

Your dealer may have installed themap DVD. If the map DVD was notinstalled, do the following to load it:

Read the following steps completelybefore operating this feature.

1. Turn the ignition on.

2. Press theX (Open/CloseFaceplate) button and thefaceplate opens.

3. Load the map DVD into theDVD slot by inserting it partway.The system pulls it in.

The map appears showing yourcurrent vehicle position.

DVD Map Disc Messages

If an error displays and/or the mapdisc comes out, it could be for oneof the following reasons:. If the map disc was installed into

the CD slot. See “Installing theDVD Map Disc” previously.

. It is very hot, when thetemperature returns to normal,the map disc should play.

. You are driving on a veryrough road. When the roadbecomes smoother, the mapdisc should play.

. The map disc is dirty, scratched,wet, or upside down.

If any error occurs repeatedly orif an error cannot be corrected,contact your dealer.

Ejecting the DVD Map Disc

When the DVD map disc is notloaded, you are not able to use thenavigation portion of the system.

1. Turn the ignition on.

2. Press theX (Open/CloseFaceplate) button and thefaceplate opens.

3. PressX DVD, located next tothe bottom slot. The disc ejects.

4. Wait until the DVD is ejectedproperly and then pressX(Open/Close Faceplate) toclose the faceplate.

Handling the DVD Map Disc

When handling the DVD map disc,be careful of the following:. Handle the disc very carefully

to avoid contamination or flaws.Signals may not read outproperly if the disc getscontaminated or flawed.

. If the disc gets soiled, use asoft cloth to gently wipe it outfrom the center of the discto the outside. Do not usephotographic record cleaner,solvents, or other cleaners.

. Do not use the disc to rest onwhile writing or drawing usingany writing utensil or attacha seal to any of the sides orthe disc.

. Do not keep the disc in directsunlight, high temperatures,or humidity.

. After using the disc, place itback into the original case.

Map Adjustments

The system lets you adjust the scaleof view on the map. Also, as youdrive, the map scrolls automaticallybased on the direction you aretraveling.

Map Scales

To view a larger or smaller scaleof the map, touch the map scalearrows.

Change the level of map detail byeither zooming in or zooming outusing the arrow screen buttonsor by touching the scale on thebar. The system adjusts the mapaccordingly. The scale of a map canrange from 1/32 of a mile (0.05 km)to 128 miles (256 km).

Scrolling the Map

Press anywhere on the map screentwice and the scroll symbol appears.Use this feature to scroll acrossthe map.

If scrolling while the vehicle is inP (Park), the system scrolls initiallyat a slower rate. Continue to pressthe map screen to increase thescrolling speed.

If scrolling while the vehicle is inmotion, the system will scroll to thatlocation and stop.

If you have used the scroll featureto scroll the map and if the vehicleicon becomes lost, press NAV toreturn to the current vehicle locationon the map.

Use the scroll feature on the map toset a destination. See “Map” underEnter Destination on page 37 formore information.

Navigation SymbolsThe following symbols are the mostcommon symbols that appear on amap screen.

The vehicle is shown as thissymbol. It shows the position anddirection the vehicle is moving onthe map.

This symbol marks the finaldestination of the planned route.

This symbol appears on the map fora planned waypoint.

The waypoint symbol is numberedfrom 1 through 5 depending on howmany waypoints have been set.

Select from one of the followingsix options to allow differentviews and information of the mapscreen. Availability of these optionsdepends on the current route.The current view is highlighted.

Select the single map mode todisplay more of the map with awindow that gives the direction anddistance to the upcoming maneuver.

Press the dual view symbol todisplay two map screens that allowdifferent scale levels and headingdirection for each window.

Press anywhere inside the rightscreen and the EDIT RIGHTSCREEN displays. Change thescale level, 2D and 3D view, and toturn the POIs on and off. To changethe heading direction, touch theNorth Up or Heading Up symbol.

Use the arrows to scroll through thelist. To view the available POIs foran exit, select the exit, then selectthe Map screen button.

The system displays highwayguidance any time you have aplanned route on a highway orfreeway. To turn this featureoff, see “User Settings” underNavigation Set Up on page 61for more information.

Auto Reroute

When a destination has been setbut the vehicle is off of the plannedroute, the system automaticallyplans a new route. The new routeis highlighted on the screen.

Traveling Across Regions

When driving through regions,the map screen updates to displaythe current location. To plan adestination in a different region,the region must be changed forthe map DVD to access the correctinformation.

1. Change the selected region inthe search area when closerto the destination. See EnterDestination on page 37.

2. Change the selected regionin the search area whenentering the destination androute settings. See EnterDestination on page 37.

For example, if you weretraveling from Michigan toFlorida, make sure that Floridais included on the selectedregion. Enter a destinationin Florida under the ENTERDESTINATION menu.

Navigation MenuPress NAV to access themap screen. Press the MENUtouch-screen button on the mapscreen.

All of the navigation system featurescan be accessed from this screen.

Global PositioningSystem (GPS)The navigation system determinesthe position of your vehicle by usingsatellite signals, various vehiclesignals, and map data.

At times, other interferences suchas the satellite condition, roadconfiguration, the condition of thevehicle and/or other circumstancescan interfere with the navigationsystem's ability to determine theaccurate position of the vehicle.

The GPS shows the currentposition of your vehicle usingsignals sent by the GPS Satellitesof the United States Departmentof Defense. When your vehicleis not receiving signals from thesatellites, a symbol appears on themap screen. Refer to NavigationSymbols on page 76.

This system may not be available orinterferences may occur if any of thefollowing are true:. Signals are obstructed by tall

buildings, trees, large trucks,or a tunnel.

. Objects are located on the rearshelf of the vehicle.

. Satellites are being repaired orimproved.

. After-market glass tinting hasbeen applied to the vehicle'srear windshield.

Notice: Do not apply after-marketglass tinting to the vehicle'swindows. Glass tinting interfereswith the system's ability toreceive GPS signals and causesthe system to malfunction.The window might have to bereplaced to correct the problem.This would not be covered bythe warranty.

Vehicle PositioningAt times, the position of the vehicleon the map may be inaccurate dueto one or more of the followingreasons:. The road system has changed.. The vehicle is driving on slippery

road surfaces such as in sand,gravel and/or snow.

. The vehicle is traveling onwinding roads.

. The vehicle is on a longstraight road.

. The vehicle is approaching a tallbuilding or a large vehicle.

. The surface streets run parallelto a freeway.

. The vehicle has just beentransferred by a vehicle carrieror a ferry.

. The current position calibrationis set incorrectly.

. The vehicle is traveling at highspeed.

. The vehicle changes directionsmore than once, or when thevehicle is turning on a turn tablein a parking lot.

. The vehicle is entering and/orexiting a parking lot, garage or alot with a roof.

. The GPS signal is not received.

. A roof carrier is installed on yourvehicle.

. The vehicle is equipped with tirechains.

. The tires are replaced.

. The tire pressure for your tires isincorrect.

. The tires are worn.

. The first time the map DVD isinserted.

. The battery is disconnected forseveral days.

. The vehicle is driving in heavytraffic where driving is at lowspeeds, and the vehicle isstopped and started repeatedly.

If any of those problems occur,the system may need to bere-calibrated. This could be dueto tire pressure differences, or if aspare tire is installed. To calibratethe system, see Navigation Set Upon page 61.

Problems with RouteGuidanceInappropriate route guidance canoccur under one or more of thefollowing conditions:. A turn was made that was not on

the route.. Route guidance may not be

available when using automaticrerouting for the next right orleft turn.

. The route may not be changedwhen using automatic rerouting.

. There is no route guidance whenturning at an intersection.

. Plural names of places may beannounced occasionally.

. It may take a long time tooperate automatic reroutingduring high-speed driving.

. Automatic rerouting may displaya route returning to the setwaypoint if you are heading fora destination without passingthrough a set waypoint.

. The route prohibits the entry ofa vehicle due to a regulationby time or season or any otherregulation which may be given.

. Some routes may not besearched.

. The route to the destination maynot be shown if there are newroads, if roads have recentlychanged or if certain roads arenot listed on the map DVD. SeeOrdering Map DVDs on page 84.

Ordering Map DVDsThe map DVD in the vehicle isthe most up-to-date informationavailable when your vehicle wasproduced. The map DVD is updatedperiodically, provided that the mapinformation has changed.

For questions about the operation ofthe navigation system or the updateprocess, contact the GM Nav DiscCenter toll‐free phone number,1‐877‐NAV‐DISC (1‐877‐628‐3472)or go to the center's website,www.gmnavdisc.com. To updateor replace a disc, call the GMNav Disc Center or order a newdisc online. Have the VehicleIdentification Number (VIN)

available when ordering. Thisensures that you receive the correctand most up-to-date DVD mapdisc for your vehicle. See “VehicleIdentification Number (VIN)” inthe Index of your vehicle's ownermanual for more information.

After receiving the updateddisc, replace the old disc in thenavigation system. See “Installingthe DVD Map Disc” under Maps onpage 73. Dispose of the old disc toavoid confusion about which discis the most current.

Database CoverageExplanationsCoverage area depends upon themap detail available. Some areashave greater map detail than others.The navigation system works onlyas well as the information providedon the map disc. See Ordering MapDVDs on page 84 on how to obtainupdated map information.

Voice RecognitionThe navigation system's voicerecognition allows for hands-freeoperation of navigation and audiosystem features. Voice recognitioncan be used when the ignition is onor in ACC/ACCESSORY or whenRetained Accessory Power (RAP)is active.

This feature only works if the mapDVD is inserted. If you try to usevoice recognition without the mapDVD inserted, the system displays“Please insert the navigation mapDVD to use the voice recognitionfeature.” See “Installing the DVDMap Disc” under Maps on page 73.

The system may not hear you ormay hear the incorrect word with thewindows open or the convertible topdown due to background noise.

To use voice recognition:

1. Press and hold g until a beep isheard. The audio system mutes.

This button is located on the leftside of the navigation systemfaceplate.

2. Clearly state one of thecommands listed on thefollowing pages. For example,say “FM1.”

3. The system states thecommand being implemented.For example, the system says“FM1 Radio” and the audiosystem changes to the FM1source.

You may end voice recognitionby not speaking any commands.After about five seconds of silence,the system automatically cancelsvoice recognition.

At times, the system may notunderstand a spoken command.If this happens, try again. If aspoken command is not available,the system provides feedbackbased on availability.

While using voice recognition,make sure to keep interior noiselevels to a minimum. Otherwise,the system might not recognizevoice commands.

The system only recognizescommands spoken in English.

Voice Recognition Commands

The following list shows allof the voice commands availablefor the navigation system witha brief description of each.Any words shown in squarebrackets are optional. If thereare words shown in parentheses,choose one of the options. To usethe voice commands, refer to theinstructions listed previously.

Help Commands

These commands are universal andenable you to use the help promptsavailable from the system.

Command Help/List: Enablesthe system to provide the availablecommands for the navigation radio.

Cancel: Cancels the voicerecognition function.

Radio: Changes the audio systemto the next radio audio source.

AM: Changes the audio system tothe AM audio source.

FM1: Changes the audio system tothe FM1 audio source.

XM1: Changes the audio system tothe XM1 audio source.

XM2: Changes the audio system tothe XM2 audio source.

Power On, Audio On: Turns thesystem's power on.

Power Off, Audio Off: Turns thesystem's power off.

Seek Up: The selected audiosource seeks to the next strongeststation.

Seek Down: The selected audiosource seeks down to the nextstrongest station.

CD Player Commands

Track Up: The CD player skips tothe next track.

Previous Track : The CD playergoes to the previous track.

Track Down: The CD player goesto the beginning of the track or goesto the previous track if the track haselapsed nine seconds.

Screen Commands

Screen Day Mode, Day ModeOn: Adjusts the system's screensetting to the day mode.

Screen Night Mode, Night ModeOn: Adjusts the system's screensetting to the night mode.

Screen Auto Mode, Auto ModeOn: Adjusts the system's screensetting to auto mode.

Screen Off: Turns the system'sscreen display off.

Position Commands

Current Position, CurrentLocation, Show Current Position,Show Current Location: Thesecommands will display the vehicle'scurrent location on the map screen.

Map: The system displays the mapscreen.

Map Commands

Zoom In: The system zooms inwhen on the map screen.

Zoom In Maximum: The systemzooms in to the minimum availablemap scale when on the map screen.

[Go to] Preset Destination[Number] (number): The systemgoes to the preset destinationnumber. This preset destinationcan be chosen as a waypoint ora destination. There must be alocation stored in the presetdestination number that is chosen.For example, first store a locationin Preset Destination 3. Say “Go toPreset Destination 3.” The systemgoes to Preset Destination 3 andprompt you to choose it as awaypoint or destination.

Add [to] Waypoint: The systemadds the current marked point as awaypoint. This command is usedafter the following commands havebeen used: Home, Go to StartingPoint, Go to Previous Destination.

Enter Destination: The systemadds the current marked pointas the final destination. Thiscommand is used after the followingcommands have been used: Home,Go to Starting Point, Go to PreviousDestination.

Guidance Commands

Repeat Guidance, Repeat Voice:The system repeats the lastavailable voice prompt guidancecommand if a destination hasbeen set.

Louder: The system increasesthe volume of the navigation voiceprompts.

Softer: The system decreasesthe volume of the navigation voiceprompts.

Voice Guidance Off: The systemturns off the navigation voiceprompts if a destination hasbeen set.

Voice Guidance On: The systemturns on the navigation voiceprompts.

[Change to] Arrow (Guide/Guidance): The system changesto Arrow Guidance screen view inthe Guidance Menu if a destinationhas been set.

[Change to] Turn List (Guide/Guidance): The system changesto Turn List Guidance screenview in the Guidance Menu ifa destination has been set.

[Change to] Freeway (Guide/Guidance): The system changesto Freeway Guidance screen view inthe Guidance Menu if a destinationhas been set. This command is onlyavailable if you are on a freeway.

[Change to] Intersection (Guide/Guidance): The system changesto Intersection Guidance screenview in the Guidance Menu if adestination has been set. Thiscommand is only available whenthe next turn is less than 0.5 mile(800 m) away for city streets and2 miles (2 km) away for freeways.

Entire Route, Entire Rout Map,Route Overview: The systemdisplays the entire route if adestination has been set.
