When the Northeast Conference (NEC) was first established as the ECAC-Metro Conference back in1981, the league’s founders had one goal in mind: to

create a competitive NCAA Division I men’s basketball conferencefor unaffiliated schools on the Eastern seaboard. A single-sportentity at its inception, the NEC has grown far beyond expectationsover the past three decades, having transformed itself into a burgeoning 12-member, 23-sport conference. To mark the NEC’s30th Anniversary season in 2010-11, the Conference will proudlycelebrate its heritage as its builds toward a promising future.

The NEC and its member institutions are committed to providingopportunities for student-athletes to achieve their fullest potentialboth in athletic competition and in the classroom. Likewise, theConference continually strives to be an NCAA Division I leader forathletic success, academic achievement and integrity, sportsmanship, equity and diversity, community partnership andnational engagement.

The remarkable success story of the conference began to unfoldin 1985, when the league began sponsoring additional sports.Three years later, a change of name was in order and the Northeast Conference as we know it today was born. With membership and sport sponsorship continuing to grow over thenext 25 years, the NEC now enjoys qualification or play-in accessto 14 different NCAA Championships (baseball, men’s andwomen’s basketball, field hockey, football, men’s and women’sgolf, women’s lacrosse, men’s and women’s soccer, softball, men’s and women’s tennis and women’s volleyball).

Though the NEC has featured various incarnations since its inception, charter members Fairleigh Dickinson, Long Island,Robert Morris, St. Francis (NY), Saint Francis (PA) and Wagnerremain part of the current 12-school alignment. They are joinedby Monmouth (admitted in 1985), Mount St. Mary’s (1989), Central Connecticut State (1997), Quinnipiac (1998) and SacredHeart (1999). NEC expansion continues with the addition of

Bryant University in 2012 as the league’s 12th member, whichwill give the league a six-state geographic footprint with access tosuch major media markets as New York City, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Hartford and Providence.

NEC member institutions now compete in 23 championship sports:baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, women’s bowling, men’sand women’s cross country, field hockey, football, men’s andwomen’s golf, men’s and women’sindoor track and field, men’sand women’s lacrosse, men’s and women’s outdoor track andfield, men’s and women’s soccer, softball, women’s swimming, men’s and women’s tennis, and women’s volleyball.

Give a Gift, Build a Legacy...Alumni, parents, friends, students, faculty and staff are among those whohave generously supported the Saint Francis University Stokes Club.

The Stokes club is an organization which provides assistance and support to student-athletes participating in our 21-sport Division I Athletics Program. Our student-athletes and coaches work hard to represent Saint Francis University, and you, in a positive manner year-round.

With your recent contributions, Saint Francis Athletics has enjoyed improvements at DeGol Field, which also includes Fr. Bede Hines Track, and the Stokes Softball Field. Contributions have also helped to improvedevery day working conditions within the athletic department.

We are extremely proud of our past athletic and academic accomplishments. However, with your help we can move forward andtake our programs to even greater success in the classroom, in the community and in our competition. The future of Red Flash Athleticsis very bright because you care about our student-athletes.
