YC-OLLI Mission• The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) is a peer-directed organization within Yavapai College that meets members’ lifelong learning and social interaction needs.
• The Institute recognizes the unique life experiences of its Central Yavapai County Area participants by self-selecting involvement and collaborative leadership.
• We share our talents, experience and skills in a relaxed atmosphere filled with humor, wisdom, diversity and insight that enable us to:
Explore new interests Discover and develop latent abilities Engage in intellectual and cultural
pursuits Socialize with others of similar interests
OOSHERLIFELONGLEARNINGINSTITUTE
LLI
YC-OLLI VISION OLLI will continue to recognize the individuality of its members by emphasizing and expanding peer learning and social interaction. OLLI will: Function as an “knowledge exchange” in which we utilize, appreciate, and recognize the time and talent of our members as planners, facilitators, organizational officers and committee members
Provide a wide variety of learning groups, workshops and forums, as well as social and cultural events
Serve as an important resource and forum for the discussion of current issues and concerns of its members and the community
Incorporate current and future technologies into our offerings to enhance the convenience and enjoyment of class participants
Expand our OLLI interaction both nationally and internationally
OOSHERLIFELONGLEARNINGINSTITUTE

OUR STAFF VALUES
We value clear communication:• We answer the phone by the third ring, so members only get voicemail when both lines are busy
• We speak slowly and clearly enough to be understood
• We take the time to listen to people’s needs so we can be helpful
OOSHERLIFELONGLEARNINGINSTITUTE
LLI
OUR STAFF VALUESWe value our relationships with members:
• If a problem or issue arises, we apologize and find a win/win solution to the best of our ability
• We do our best to anticipate our member’s needs and prepare for them
We value attention to detail and follow-through:• The accuracy of the information we provide reflects our commitment to our members, and we are continually improving our processes
OOSHERLIFELONGLEARNINGINSTITUTE
LLI
THE GOAL OF THE STAFF IS TO SUPPORT THE MISSION AND VISION OF OLLI
• We do that by:• Supporting all the OLLI committees and their goals
Governing Council, Curriculum, Social, Technology, Nominating, Finance, Membership, Volunteer, and Special Interest Group
• Enrolling new members (209 this year)• Renewing memberships (876 this year)
OOSHERLIFELONGLEARNINGINSTITUTE
LLI
THE GOAL OF THE STAFF IS TO SUPPORT THE MISSION AND VISION OF OLLI
•We do that by:• Enrolling members in learning groups (4,163 class
seats)• Enrolling members in field trips (294 trip seats this
year)• Making all the arrangements for field trips (9 trips
this year)• Tracking all the learning group proposals (190 groups)• Producing 5 schedules a year• Producing all the newsletters, flyers and notices
during the year to keep members informed• Supporting Facilitators with information, technology,

MEMBERSHIP GROWTH VS STAFFING
For the last 3 years we have had 2 full time staff members:
Membership grew from an average of 550 in 2008 to an average of 650
At the same time, we grew from offering an average of 33 classes per session to an average of 38 this year,
and from 3,650 class seats in 2008 up to 4,163
To Assist Managing the Work Associated With Growth, We Are Pleased to Welcome Paige Ruggles As Our New Part Time Assistant

CHALLENGES WE ARE TRYING TO MEET
• Parking on the Prescott Campus continues to be an issueScheduling more classes on Fridays, and at our partnership locations, including the Yavapai College Prescott Valley Campus, CASA Senior Center in PV, Good Samaritan in both Prescott and PV, and the Smoki Museum
• Challenges with using technology in the classroomYour wonderful OLLI Tech squad has 12 trained volunteers who are helping facilitators before the start of each session, and during learning groups. If we have problems with equipment during a class, both the OLLI staff and Yavapai College staff will respond immediately with assistance

OLLIS IN VERDE AND SEDONA
Our sister OLLIs have gone through a transition in staff. Their new administrator is Natalia McKendry.
Both groups have fairly steady membership, 200 in Sedona and 100 in Verde, and they are focusing on growth

THE OSHER FOUNDATION
The Osher Foundation has rewarded your excellent work here at OLLI with $350,000 in grants, and $2,000,000 in an endowment, over the last 6 years. We are now able to subsidize our budget with the interest from the endowment. We were one of the first 10 OLLIs to receive an endowment.
The Osher Foundation also sponsors a National OLLI Resource Center, which provides a method for all 122 OLLI’s across the country to communicate with each other, gather at an annual conference, and share ideas.

WHAT IS COMING NEXT?
We will continue to offer registration through phone, walk in, and mail in.
This fall we will offer the option to register on line as well.
If you are interested in trying this new option training and support will be available
if you can buy something from Amazon, you can register for your OLLI learning groups on line

DISTANCE LEARNING INITIATIVE
How can we use technology to enhance OLLI’s current offerings?
Technology will be used to engage and educate members:
by sharing files and links and holding discussion forums between class sessions
through new communication mediums
unable to attend classes at the main Yavapai Campus in Prescott
OOSHERLIFELONGLEARNINGINSTITUTE
LLI
OLLI TECHNOLOGY SURVEY
Survey Split Between Accessibility Questions and Distance Learning Opinions
238 Surveys Were Collected From 23 Individual Classes (51.2% of Spring 1)
91% Have a Computer, 87% Access Internet at Home
79% of Respondents Reported Checking Their Email at Least Once a Day to Several Times a Day
52% Agreed That They Would Take an “Enhanced Class”
OOSHERLIFELONGLEARNINGINSTITUTE
LLI
ENHANCED CLASSES AND OLLI
Meets regularly in person and uses an online space to post lectures, class notes, or music/video files for students to look at and discuss while not in class
Used as a method to enhance discussion in traditional class
Tested out Spring 2 Session with four facilitators and received positive responses
Used an online tool called Ning but are switching to EDU 2.0
OOSHERLIFELONGLEARNINGINSTITUTE
LLI
EDU 2.0 The next generation educational system for schools. It provides a free web-based education site with comprehensive features for teachers and students. Anyone can teach and/or learn using the system, whether it's at school, at home, or on the move.
Everyone gets a personalized account with several features (calendar, file storage, etc.)
Completely private and shared only with fellow class members

Start using Interactive Instructional Television (ITV) in some OLLI classes
Provide online access to Governing Council through meeting minutes and voice recordings
Work with University of the Third Age (U3A) Online to bring course offering to OLLI

1. Help review catalogs for ideas2. Review the data file to help bring ideas
to reality
OOSHERLIFELONGLEARNINGINSTITUTE
LLI
RESULTS
1.Of 119 catalog exchange requests, 48 received (40%)
2.Thus far: 105 ideas in 26 categories
3.Of 63 OLLIs with paid instructors, 25 received (39%)
4.Of 56 OLLIs with volunteer facilitators, 23 received (41%)
