Vision: Revolutionizing Global Leadership
Mission: We energize leaders to challenge the status quo, invigorate their organizations and create platforms for global change.
Rethink the rules at UC Berkeley Center for
Executive Education. Here, business leaders gain
both the real-world tools and the inspiration to
lead their organizations into the future. At UC Berkeley,
executives have abundant resources at their fingertips, from
Nobel Laureate faculty and national laboratory research
to the vibrant ecosystem of the Silicon Valley. These tools,
engaged in one of the most dynamic learning environments
in the world, combine to create a powerful experience for
business executives seeking a competitive edge.
UC Berkeley’s Center for Executive Education offers
a portfolio of programs developed by academia’s and
industry’s most forward-thinking minds. Our programs
are designed in collaboration with leading faculty from
UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business as well as from
across the UC Berkeley campus. For individuals and
organizations requiring a more specialized approach,
we also offer customized programs that address specific
organizational challenges and goals.
Business as Usual? Not Here.“We engage participants to stretch
beyond their comfort zone so they can
walk into a situation and say, ‘the Emperor
has no clothes—things have to change,
and here’s how I’m going to lead you
through the process.’”

W e believe that every business is unique. But
all businesses have one thing in common:
the need to develop their people to take on
new challenges and leverage key opportunities. By identify-
ing the mission-critical issues and priorities at the core of
an organization’s needs, we design our programs to meet
clients’ objectives. Our four-stage process is designed to
provide an experience that will be a catalyst for organiza-
tional transformation.
“The Project Executive program facilitated
by the Haas School of Business is the most exclusive leadership program at Statoil.
The collaboration with UC Berkeley gives us
the opportunity to leverage the faculty’s
expertise on leadership and their extensive
networks in academia and industry. Statoil’s operational experience
and UC Berkeley’s competencies provide
a unique capability to move our key per-sonnel onto the most complex projects in a
turbulent world.” —Vidar Martin Birkeland,
Vice President, Statoil Project and Procurement
“We don’t have the approach that says, ‘We know what’s best for you, please trust
us.’ It is a two-way partnership. We’re proud of the ability to be superflexible and
highly customized to our clients’ unique needs.”

“We find UC Berkeley unique, particularly because of the commit-ment of the staff and program directors. The program is exceptional. Together, we ensure that our technological leaders are up-to-date on what’s happening in science. We had ideas on what we wanted—strong competence and the ability to teach about climate change, renewable energy, risk management and materials technology—and all that was at UC Berkeley. We could not have had this experi-ence anywhere else.”—Henrik Madsen, President and CEO, Det Norske Veritas
“UC Berkeley orients itself not just to business but to society more
generally. How do we change the world? How do we make it better?
UC Berkeley has that tradition. It’s deeply ingrained. And people feel
it in our programs. It’s electric.”
—Rich Lyons, Dean, Haas School of Business

Taught by accomplished faculty and business lead-
ers, our open programs engage participants in
stimulating debates, interactive exercises and an
invigorating cross-pollination of ideas. Our programs—such
as the CIO Institute and the BioExec program—focus on
future business needs and challenges, often targeting par-
ticular functional areas and industries. As the gateway to
UC Berkeley, we offer multidisciplinary perspectives from
faculty in business, public policy, science and engineering,
political science, psychology, law, and economics, to name
just a few. Our programs are designed to link theory with
practice, perspective with impact, and thinking with doing.
Participants will return to their organizations with the
energy and skills they need to make positive change.
“We insist that all executives that come through a program here leave with an
action plan that makes it much more likely
that they are going to be able to make
significant change when they return to their office. That is
our goal.”—Jennifer Chatman,
Paul J. Cortese Distinguished Professor of Managememt
“it isn’t the tools and techniques that really change the lives of our
clients, but rather a mind-set shift that occurs here at uC Berkeley
of seeing the world through a different set of lenses. you never stop
learning as businesses, as competitors. you have to constantly be
swimming forward in the business world, and you swim forward by
innovating and coming up with better ways to do things. we offer
you an opportunity to look outward and be exposed to ideas and
innovations outside your comfort zone.”
—John Morgan, Gary and Sherron Kalbach Professor of
Entrepreneurship, Haas School of Business
