acquire the real corporate experiences from this project.

Department of Commerce in Loyola College Chennai, Sr.Lecturer who inspired me and
providing me the valuable information and guidance in the concern for doing the project work

ABSTRACT
The main objectives of the study were to identify the preference of investors towards various
investment patterns, public awareness & preference of investments, and find out the purpose
and objectives of such investment. Also the risk profile was assessed.
Information pertaining to the factors affecting choice of investment patterns, the most
preferred investment schemes, purpose of investment etcwere collected using the
structured questionnaire. The research design adopted was descriptive type.
The sampling technique adopted was cluster simple random sampling. A total of 100 samples
were interviewed and appropriate data were collected. All the data collected were compiled
and analyzed, using descriptive statistics as well as inferential statistics. Simple percentage
analysis was used for descriptive analysis. Average Method, Weighted average method and
chi-square Test were used for the inferential statistics.
On analyzing the data it was found that maximum rated investment option out of the listed 7
options were the mutual fund and the share & stock. Both enjoy a good popularity and most
of the investor. Most of them consider better dividends and capital appreciation as the main
criteria for their investment. In general, most of them opt for moderate risk portfolio when
considering the factors involved in the choice of investment. Safety and tax benefits were the
main objectives. The study also reveals that the majority of investors are satisfied with
various options of investments to obtain maximum returns & easy liquidity.
