+ army)
(Footage of his dad doing a
training session maybe?)
During his childhood, his father was physically active; as
a member of the British Army, but also martial arts
training, as he was a champion kickboxer, entering
tournaments competing at a professional level.

(montage pictures of oli as a
child in Gym and with his dad)
Looking up to his dad and being proud of what his dad
had achieved, Oli always used to beg his Dad to take him
training as he aspired to be strong like his Dad, but also
to spend quality time with his dad (as this was father and
son bonding time), so his dad would bring him along to
training and let him join in, having a go on the punch bagand pads. At that period within his life, Oli was not
taking training seriously.
He was never really into trouble making and fighting as
such, only the odd kickboxing stuff that he done when
he would spend time with his dad at the gym.
(re-enactment of robbery?
With vignette effect?) ( create
mood out of shots around

But then one day, he encountered a traumatizing
situation that had changed his life entirely. As he was
walking to the store to buy some groceries for his
mother, he was robbed at knifepoint for his money.
(something to represent
loneliness and isolation and
fear)

Being only 9 at that time, this shattered his confidence
and boisterous personality, making him become a very
scared, timid child, who was frightened of going outside
with the fear of being killed. For ages he would stay
indoors, and this made him loose trust for everybody
who was not friend or family, making him very cautious,
always thinking the worst.

Sheppey to Maidstone)

So to try and overcome this fear that Oli had gained as a
result of the trauma, his mother decided to move from
sheerness over to Maidstone, in an attempt to make life
for Oli better.
(transition shot showing a WS
of St.Johns fisher?)
This transition over to Maidstone happened at the same
time as Oli starting secondary school year 7 at St.John
fisher over in Chatham.
(St.John fisher vignette shot) Looking forwards to a fresh new start, this was over
clouded due to the fact that because of his traumatic

experience, this made him lack self esteem and
confidence within himself, not being able to make true
friends, which lead to him becoming a victim of constant
bullying.
(oli back faced to camera

kids playing in the
playground?)
Day after day, week after week Olly was constantly
bullied, ridiculed because of his race, but also because of
his lack in confidence to defend himself.
(sequence Film lockers in

To try and prevent himself from being bullied, Oli would
come up with excuses to try and avoid going to school,
often pretending to be sick.
The radical extremes of acts that Oli was willing to carry
out to avoid going to school, would sometimes involve
Oli self harming himself so that he wouldn't have to go
into school.
After a year of enduring the constant bullying and
hardship of lacking self esteem and confidence, which
resulted in him being an easy victim for bullies, Oli was
taken out of St.John fishers at the end of year 7 and
started afresh in year 8 at Westlands secondary school in
Sittingbourne, also moving back to sheerness, with his
family.
(montage of pictures with Oli
and Ray first training as a
teenager)
Having experienced what it was like being a victim of
bullying, Oli vowed to never let himself be bullied again.
With this in mind, he started off doing kickboxing over at
Queens-bourough with his fathers former kickboxing
tutor, Ray, who took Oli under his wing to toughen himup and help Oli gain confidence and self esteem,
teaching Oli how to look after himself.
(montage of pictures with Oli
and friends at Westlands
maybe?)
Starting a fresh new life at Westlands secondary school
in year 8, alongside studying kickboxing with his martial
arts tutor and mentor Ray Askew, Oli's whole life hand
turned around, from the once timid and fearful scared
child, to a young man who could now stand up for
himself, with some form of confidence restored to make
friends, plus gaining friends inside the Gym.
(montage of pictures with Oli
and Ray competing attournaments)
Under the tutelage of Ray Askew, Ray had not only
gotten Oli sparring to boost his confidence and beliefwithin himself, but also had him competing in kickboxing
competitions to help gain further confidence and self
esteem and belief within his own ability.

Because of the tournament that Oli was competing in,
and the training that he was doing, this made him gain
more friends than he had ever had, as they

acknowledged the achievements that he was making,
praising and encouraging him to carry on doing well.
Pictures of Although Oli was progressing within the sport, his trainer
Ray thought that it would be best for Oli to make the
transition over to amateur boxing, as although
kickboxing is a great sport, he thought that someone
with Olis potential needed a bigger vehicle to reach it.
(montage sequence of
St.Marys, outside, plus in and
around Gym, showing pictures
etc...)
So Oli Started training at St.Marys Boxing Gym over in
Chatham, as at the time, Ray was not qualified to be an
ABA coach, however, he was still present in teaching Oli
as his main tutor and mentor.

Skipping etc...
His main coaches at the time were Gerome, Dave and
Dan who taught him amateur style boxing, focusing on
pad work and fitness etc...
(montage footage of the
Novice ABA with Oli winning at
the end)
Under their tutoring, with the assistance of Ray, they got
him competing in the Novice ABA, helping him get
through to the finals, in which he ended up winning the
tournament.
Having won this tournament, Ray though that Oli was
ready to make that transition over to a professional
boxer, as he had seen the progression that Oli had made
throughout his amateur career as a kickboxer and boxer,
and felt that whilst he was still young, now was as better
time than ever.
Even though some may have had their doubts that Oli
turned to a Pro boxer to early, Oli and Ray understood
that although some Pro's may have had plenty ofamateur bouts, it doesn't matter how big of an amateur
record you may have, as you could gain your experience
also in the pro ranks.
(any pictures of when you first
turned pro – or footage?)
(footage of Oli training?)
When Oli first turned pro he was ecstatic, as to him,
being professional means that's it... You now have the
chance to be big, as being a professional the doors are
open for you giving you a chance to a big career, and
whatever you do, you've got to do it right as you only getone chance.
(footage of Oli training in
gym?)
Turning Pro now meant that he had to step it up in diet
and training, taking training more seriously then he did
before. As being a pro you can't leave any stone
unturned. When he was an amateur he would train hard
before fights, but now being a professional fighter he
had to take the next step in training, entering a 12 week

camp to prepare for his fight so that he is physically fit
for his match.
(montage sequence of training

(Montage sequence of

The 12 week camp that Oli would enter would have him
doing a mixture of strength and conditioning training
with his Dad Tony Edwards, plus Boxing training with his
professional coach and mentor Ray Askew. The training
with his Dad would consist of: Reaction and speed
training; Plyometric training, strength work, plus agility
and speed work all at the Army Barracks in Brompton
Gillingham.
(footage of Oli in gym with Ray
going through various training
montage)
Turning pro changed Oli's life, not just inside the ring
and gym, but primarily outside of the ring, as what he
does and the lifestyle he lives will have an impact on his
performance come fight night. At first Oli did not fully
understand this idea, but on the lead up to his pro
debut, it was something that he almost found out the
hard way.
(various clips of Oli Jogging at
different locations, plus Jogging
past road workers drilling)
When he turned pro, the lifestyle did not have an impact
upon him at first, but as he gradually continued training
and posted pictures and footage up of his training
progress, people started to take notice of him
throughout the Island.
Being a professional boxer, people respected him more
then when he was an amateur, because as soon as the
word professional came up, people would acknowledge
him as someone who's potentially going to become
famous. Oli started gaining recognition and also a steady
following of supporters throughout the Island; whom
believed in him and put a lot of hope into his potentialfor one day becoming a champion boxer from the Island,
especially since his name was popping up in the papers
and he was an Islander doing something well for himself.
Because of the hard work witnessed in the gym, and the
material posted online documenting his training
progress towards success, he had gotten sponsors who
wanted to help him achieve this dream, funding his
journey, giving him the opportunity to fulfil the life of a
professional fighter. With all eyes watching him along
with support from sponsors, a lot of people had faith
within his potential and future growth.
The overwhelming support and followers is great, and it
is motivating, however, at times, he felt under pressure
to keep up to everybody's expectation, as they had high
expectations of him since he is a professional boxer.
When you have many people watching you expecting to
do well, wishing you to do great, only knowing you by
what post up online and put in the newspapers, it is a lot
-

of pressure to keep up that public appearance, as you
don’t want to disappoint those people who believe in
you. However, what's not realised is that, with boxing,
it's not just what happens inside the ring, but also
outside of the ring in your personal life, as this can really
affect how conduct yourself as a professional fighter.
And his life outside of the ring almost cost him his career
before it fully started.
Pro debut story conflict
During his 12 week camp preparation for his pro debut,
he had broken up with his girlfriend of 3 years properly
for the first time. This had a big impact upon his life as at
that time, he felt like she was his everything and that
without her, he was nothing.
During training camp he was not focused at all, not
concentrating, and people said that he was going mad,
even his family said that he was going mental, loosing
the plot, not taking his training seriously as all he was
concerned with was sorting it out with his girlfriend.
At that time, he was living in a caravan with his mom,
and his mom decided that it would be best that Oli went
and lived with his Dad. So he went and lived with his
dad, and his dad was trying to make him focus on the
fight, but he still was not focused on the fight, he didn’t
have the drive and wasn't hungry at all.
Then when Oli heard that his girlfriend was out clubbing,
drinking, living a social life, he too started going outgetting on the piss (drunk). He lost a lot of supporters,
because they all believed in him, and when they saw him
out drinking and not concentrating, he let a lot of people
down, especially having sold a lot of tickets to people
hoping to see a performance from a promising prospect.
He was a mess, really a big mess at that time, with no
desire to fight.
Even a week before the fight Oli still was not focused. He
was still going out and getting drunk, neglecting his
training commitments a week before his pro debut, with
his supporters witnessing his behavior, unaware of whathe was going through, losing more hope and respect for
Oli as they thought he was not taking the sport seriously.
Two days before his pro debut was when reality kicked
in as Oli realized that he had a lot of people who had
high hopes in him, and that he could not let them all
down, especially his trainer and mentor Ray Askew, and
-

also his Dad, whom both invested a lot of time in
training him up.
On fight night, he was fighting for much more than just
winning his debut, he was fighting for all of those whom
he let down that witnessed his non professional
behaviour and disregard for the seriousness of the sport.
He was fighting for his family, friends, supporters and
those who believed in him.
If Oli would have lost that fight, he would have lost a lot
of supporters, he would of lost his girlfriend, and more
importantly the first bit of his career. It was a lot, he put
a lot on the line, and for that reason his pro debut was
not just a fight.
(What was it like during fight night on you're pro debut
– what was going through your head whilst you was in
the changing room before your fight?) (can you talk me
through your experience on the day of your pro debut,
like what it was like in the changing rooms, what was
going through your head, plus what happened inside
the ring.)
(Oli will explain what happens on fight night – changing
room doing wraps, everyone walking out the changing
room one by one for their fight, leaving him alone to
think to himself... Being called up for the next fight and
walking to the ring. Fighting inside the ring, what goes
through his head, does he think about the fans and
supporters there and that he don’t want to let them
down, or does he just focus solely on his fighter and his
trainer ray giving him instructions.) Luckily enough Oli survived and managed to fight his
way towards a defeat, beating his opponent and
redeeming himself in front of those whom he let down
on the lead up to his pro debut.
(Can you explain to me what or how you feel before
the winner of the fight is announced?)
(Tell me, how do you feel when the referee announces
that you're the winner, in front of all of those who
came to watch you on the night?) ( Does it feel like
your hard work has paid off?, like you've done good not
just for yourself, but for your supporters who believe inyou?)
Winning the fight and going through that situation Oli
vowed that never again would he ever do that, or put
himself in that situation.
He learnt a lot from that scenario, plus life experiences
that you have got to believe in yourself and do what is
-

right for yourself and not for anyone else's sake. Don’t
worry about what other people think, and that the
hardest enemy is you, and that is true, the man in the
mirror.

And oli winning his fight
Boxing has definitely changed his life, and he was
worked very hard at it, and it's the first time that his
thought he himself can do it, with a lot of people egging
him on, with top athletics inspiring him, supporting him
