1, SL~ca 1 April 1953 there have been nine (9) eerioua cases of acc~aen~a~ discharge of filt'flarms within the regiment, In each of these oases a man was injured to the extent that eva.cua.tion to a h~apit•l l'!a.S required, .t'ollolo/ed by an extended period of heapitalization. In several eases the wounds resulted in varying degrees ef permanent disability of the victims;
2, In all of these cases investi~ation revealed that the accidental dis~harges w-ere due to gl'Ose carelessness and negligence in the handling of the basic firearm,
