The 5th Harines were unable to hold against the attack and were forced back to the Il!JIN RIVER. By first light the CCF forces had consolidated their position on the Mrth bank and had ri~dUO$d all effective resistance on the far side of the ll>lJIN, ~lith the exception of a pocket along the line CS 059985~T 07500S-0T 093003.

An estirnat'.;d tM'o CCF divisions are loc-ated in depth for an attempted crossing of the IMJIN RIVER in the vicinity of the HAGORANGP 10..sANJGORANGP 10 area, The l20th Division, 40th CCF Army is idantHied as the attacking element, and the 136th Division, 46th CCF in reserve. The 1J6th was previousl.v identified on the front of the 1st Marine Division as relieving the l20th Division, 40 CCF, Since this relief was completed t~ 120th Division has been carried as unlocated and possibly in the vicinity of its parent unit the 40 CCF Army at NAHCHONJOH. In keeping with pest tactics of the CCF the defending unit, in this case the 136th Division, remained in place ar~ the 12Cth paasod through and launched ·the attack. l, Reference (a) directs that only authorioed personnel be permitted to perform maintenance and repair on certain ordnance items,
2, Reference (b) outlines the echelon of maintenance and repair which using units are authorized to perform,
J, It is noted that units of this regiment have on occasion, permitted personnel to undertake unauthorized maintenance and/or repairs on optical and tire control equipment, with the results that optical itmes have been damaged beyond repair capabilities of the lst Ordnance Battalion, Qualified personnel and necessary equipment to perform field maintenance ot this nature nrc provided for only in tho 1st Ordnance Battalion and lst Combat Service Group.
4. Commanding Officers will take steps to prevont unauthorized maintenance or repnir of optical n.nd fire control tquipment.

CQIIIliWiding Orticers of battalions and separate companies ma;r grant passes . for periods up to forty-eight hours to personnel desiring to viet relatives in nearby units. This authority may not be dele~ated to commanders of subordinate units. The pass required by reference ~a) may be utilized in granting such liberty.
3. Personnel desiring to visit relatives in other units at too great a distance for a forty-eight hour pass may direct requests to the Commanding General, lst Marine Division for temporary additional duty orders to the units concerned. The usual requirement for approval of this t;rpe req\lest is that the person to be visited be a member of the immediate family.
4. All hands granted permission to be absent under the provisions of this memorandum will be instructed on current directives regarding travel after curfew, limitation on visits toinchon·'afld shortage of messing and billeting facilities in the city of Seoul.

l, Immediate action will be instituted by units of this conui\Bl'ld to reduce
the incidence of malaria. Action indicated i.n this memorandum is a func: ..
tion of command, and will not be delegated to medical porsonnel. lledical
personnel, however, will be expected to assist in every way possible ..
2. Co:npany office~.will supervise the weekly administ!"'nti_on of Chloro~uin.
This will be accomplished by checking names t1ff n rosto:t• as each person
swallows the tablet. hedical officers will check off officer personnel.
3, !•:very tent will be sprayed weekly with DDT.
4. Clothing will be buttoned at the neck and wrists after 1900 each· day.
At this time, also, cot netting will be lowered, w.d tucked under met
tresses. The senior officer or non-cornrri::;::dc•r.ed officer in each tent. will
then spray Aerosol DDT in each net.
5. Insect repellant will be applied to all "xposed area" of the body at
1900 daily. Formations will be held for three ('3) consecutive days to
j,ndoctrinate personnel in this procedlll'e~ Gu.ards at evBr.ing rr.ovies will
remind personnel to button up uniforms and appl~,r repell:mt at reel changes.

3. The following types of material will be snlvaged, with priority in the o:rder listed:
a, Ammunition, except for mines and haznrdous items. Mines rutd he.za.rdous items r.mst be salvaged by uexplosiv(· ordnance disposal11 personnel only, Requests for EOD teams will be submitted to this Headquarters (S-4),

1, No arms or amnmnition of any t,-pe will be taken into the Demilitarized Zone 1
except by Military Police accompanying Joint Observer Teams.
2. Under no circumstances will the Demarc&tion Line be crossed,
' 3, There will be no fraternization, nor communication, with CCF or N0rth Korean personnel in the Demilitarized Zone,
4, Only s,tations of entry as shown on the pass may be used,
5, harked mine fields will be entared only by.specially authorized personnel,
6, A sharp look out will be kept for duds or other hazardous types of shells, Jnines, etc,, in areas not mark~d, !;one of these items will be disturbed except by Explosive Ordnance Dl.sposal personnel.
' 7;· There will be no "souvenir hunting" in the Demilitarized Zone.
8. l'/o cameras are allowed within the Demilitarized Zone.
9. Passes will be turned into sentry at station of exit when leaving the D~litarized Zone.
10, Decisions of sentries at crossing stations will be adhered to; contact Headquarters, Northern Regiment if further information is desired,
11, All personnel must clear the Demilitarized Zone by 2000 daily; entry into the zone may not be made prior to 0600 daily.

for use in MBP and effect savings to the government.
4. Both Phase I and Phaee II are currently effccti ve. Phnee I expires at
1320001 Jeptember 1953, Phase II will be conducted concurrently with Phase
I until 1320001 September 1953 and thereafter until completed,

(l) Except for hazardous ammunition, units will evacuate all serviceable and unserviceable r~unition to the regimental salvage dump for processing by the Regimcntnl Ordnance Officer in accordance with enclosure (2) hereto,
(2) Hazcrdous Ammunition - The following items aro considered hazardous, Their location will be reported, for dispooetion by EOD personnel:
{a) Hand grenades With rusty fuzes and/or deteriorated safety pins.
(b) Fuzed complete rounds with oafety wires, safety pine or other safety devices missing.
(c) All types of WP 1liiiii1Ullition which show s i~ns of advanced deterioration or those rounds >lhich show rust in vital epote or in fuze well cavities.
(d) Complete rounds packed in .wtal or hermetically sealed seul~d containers which hnve been damaged or dented to such nn extant that the round cannot be safely extracted.

1. In order to better understand, develop and maintain good relations
with the Korean people, Korean language classes will be held in each
Battalion and in the Regilnental Headquarters and Service Campany. The
Anti-tank Company and 4.2" hortar Company personnel may parficipate in
the First Battalion classes. They will provide their own transportation.
2. Unit Specisl Service Officers will provide areas for alass r.OOIIB, and
will insure that classee are conducted prampt]¥ and in an order]¥ manner.
3. Unit Intelligence sections will provide interpreters as inBtructors.
4·. Classes will be conducted in accordance with the following schedule,
commencing Wednesday 26 August 1953:
Monday Wednesday Friday
1530-1630 1530..1630 1530-1630
5. Text book and other available references will be supplied by Special
Services.
6, All unit intelligence officers and enlisted personnel and police
sergeapts are required to attend·classes, Unit Commanders will encourage
other persamel to attend these classes on a voluntary basis.

During.the entire period the company was looated in the
reserve area with the Command Post set up at CS1029B'i'.
The First Mortar Platoon was set ~ in a blocking
position located at oSlll959, and the Third Mortar Platoon
was set up in a blook1ng position looa~ed at CT148026.
The mission of the company was to prepare to support
the defense or the regiment aa directed.
b. While in the reserve area during the period, a routine
days action included the building of ammunition bunkers,
gun pits, and Fire Direction Center bunkers by the
platoons set up in blocking positi•ns. A routine days
action at the Command PGst included details to police
up the companies old positions located in the -
dem111 t&rizad zonei details to out bunker mater~al ~.t the
regimental saw mil , and improving and maintaining ~ne
oamps1te. There were no field tiring problems conducted

1. Summary.
a. During the period 1 August to 31 Au,.;ust the Anti-Tank Company commond post remained at CT 103988 and carried out
training, reorganization, and routine maintenance in accordance with Company Commander's orders.
b. Routine Day. During the period 1 August to 31 August, inclusive, a routine day for the Anti-Tank Company was one in which the company headquarters continued its functions of administration supply, and improvement of the command post camp area. The ?6mm Recoilless Rifle Platoon carried out its duties of keeping one section on the Kansas line in position supporting 3rd Battalion, ?th Marines, while the other seetiona 1,; ere imp~~oving c nd constructing nevi posi tiona 1Nhere needeC.. From 1 August t:J 25 August inclusive, the Tank Platoon kept two tnnks on the Kansas line in support of the 3rd
Battalion, 7th Marines. The balance of the platoon co.1tinued a routine maintena.nce progrr.m of on the job traini1·.g at the company command post. On 26 August the t1·10 tanks returned to the company command post and the entire Tank Platoon pursued a routine traini..g and m&.intenance program together With construction of tank slots on the Kansas line through 31 August.
