Build thee more stately mansions, 0 my soul ,As the swift seasons roll!Leave thy low-vaulted past!

Le t each new temple, nobler than the last,Shut thee from heaven with a dome more vast,Till thou at length ar t free,

Leaving thine out-grown shell by life's unresting sea!So wrote the muse of the se a shell, bu t how ap plicable a supplication to human

wishing to attain greatness. We ar e ap t to over-estimate the value of an education that comes from th e social

intercourse of our fellow men, the reinforcement, the buttressing of character byassociation. Faculties are sharpen ed and polished by the attr iti on of mind withmind, and th e pitting of brain against brain; which stimulate ambition, brightenth e ideals and open up new hopes and ideas. Book knowledge is valuable, but thevalue of knowledge which comes from mind intercourse cannot be measured.

The secret of pleasing is in being pleasant yourself, in being interesting.I f you would be agreeable, you must be magnanimous. The narrow, stingy soulis not lovable. People shrink from such a character. There must be heartiness inthe expression, in th e smile, in the hand shake, in the cordiality, which is unmistakable.

Cultivate the ar t of being agreeable. . It will help you to self-expressionas nothing else will; it will call out your successful qualities; it will broaden yoursympathies. I never knew a thoroughly uns -!fish person who wa s not an attrac tive person . No person who is always thinking of himself and trying to figureout how he can ge t some advantage from everybody else will be attractive.

The world wants a man wh o is educated all over; whose nerves ar e broughtto their acutest sensibility; whose .brain is cultured, keen, incisive, broad; whosehands are deft; whose eyes ar e alert, sensitive, microscopic; whose heart is tender, magnanimous, true. The whole world is looking fo r such a man. Alth ough there are millions out of employment, yet it is a lmcst impossible to find just the right man inalmost any department of life, and yet everywhere we see the advertisement:"Wanted-A Man."

Nearly all great men, tho se who hav e towered high above their fellows, havebeen remarkable above all things else fo r their energy of will and steady, unwavering aim .

The qua lit y wr.ich you pu t into your work will determine the quality ofyour lif e. Th e habit of insisting upon the best of which you ar e capable, of al ways demanding of yourself the highest, n "ver accepting the lowest or second best,no matter how small your remuneration, will make all the difference to you betweenmediocrity or failure, and success.

In my last message to you, who ar e about to enter the more serious business of life, I would have you r e m e m b that "service" is th e only justification fo rliving.

My message is no t to exalt you for your past attainments, but to encourageand stimulate further growth and greatn ess, so that when life is ended, we maysay of you: "There-was a man!"
