ST. HELEN As disciples of Jesus in the universal Church we are called to become in Jesus’ own words “a house of prayer for all peoples.” Thus we welcome all, the stranger, the lost, those who have never known Jesus and those who have fallen away for whatever reason. We seek to spread the full gospel: “Woe to us if we don’t spread the gospel.” Our practical goal is to utilize and dispense the seven sacraments as instruments of God’s sanctification and healing, under the guidance of the Arch- bishop of Santa Fe. We set our sights on mature Christian witness for the building up of God’s spiritual house, the new people of God that He has chosen to be his own, and chosen to announce His praises. Our prayer is to become committed disciples of our Lord Jesus and become “a house of prayer for all peoples.” 1600 South Avenue O, Portales, New Mexico 88130 Email: [email protected] www.Sthelenportales.org Church Office: 575-356-4241, Fax 575-359-1721 Hours: Monday 1:00-5:00 pm; Tuesday-Thursday 8:30 am-5:00 pm Friday 8:30 am-4:30 pm

As disciples of Jesus in the universal Church we are called to become in Jesus’ own words “a house of prayer for all peoples.” Thus we welcome all, the stranger, the lost, those who have never known Jesus and those who have fallen away for whatever reason. We seek to spread the full gospel: “Woe to us if we don’t spread the gospel.” Our practical goal is to utilize and dispense the seven sacraments as instruments of God’s sanctification and healing, under the guidance of the Arch-bishop of Santa Fe. We set our sights on mature Christian witness for the building up of God’s spiritual house, the new people of God that He has chosen to be his own, and chosen to announce His praises. Our prayer is to become committed disciples of our Lord Jesus and become “a house of prayer for all peoples.”

TWENTY-SEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

St. Maria Faustina Kowalska

She was born on August 25, 1905 in Poland. Her parents were Stanislaus and Marianna Kowalska. Her father was a carpenter and theirs was a poor family. Her original name was Helena Kowalska. She joined the Congregation of the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy, Warsaw at the age of 20 years and a new name Maria Faustina was given to her at time when she received the religious habit. Her name Faustina means fortunate or blessed one and it is a feminine form of the name a Christian martyr Faustinus. She saw visions of Jesus but others ignored her when she told them about the visions. She requested an artist to paint the first Divine Mercy image based on the vision of Jesus she saw. Her Divine Mercy devotion was banned by the Vatican in the year 1958 but the ban was lifted in the year 1978 at the request of Cardinal Carol Wojtyla (later Pope John Paul-II) the then Arch Bishop of Krakow. One lady called Maureen Digan of Massachusetts reported a healing from Lymph edema, after praying at the tomb of Maria Faustina in March 1981, which was approved by Vatican in 1982. She died on October 5, 1938 of tuberculosis. She was beatified on April 18, 1993 and canonized on April 30, 2000 by Pope John Paul-II. She is called as the apostle of Divine Mercy devotion.

Feast Day: October 5

Our Lady of the Rosary This feast is celebrated on every October-7 from the year 1571. There was a war between Turkish army and Christian army in October 1571at a place called Lepanto. The Christian

army fought under the leadership of Dan Juan, an Austrian Military General. The situation then was that if the Turkish army won, there was every possibility that the entire Europe would come under Muslim control. Therefore Pope Pius-V requested all catholic Christians to recite rosary and pray to Mother Mary for the victory of the Christian army. People also recited rosary and prayed Mother Mary for the victory of the Christian army. In that war Christian army won on October 7, 1571. The news of the victory was conveyed to the Pope on October 7, 1571itself, when the Pope was talking with cardinals. He immediately directed the church to celebrate the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary every year on October 7. All our prayers by reciting rosary will be heard and fulfilled. Family that recites rosary together will always remain united together.

10,000 Rosaries Join us in praying 10,000 Rosaries. During the month

of October we will be coming together in praying

10,000 rosaries for healing and an end to this

pandemic or any other special intention.

We invite you to join the pledge, individually, as a

family or as a parish ministry group. A form will be in

back of the church next to the cleaning supplies for

signatures.

. 10,000 Rosarios Únete a nosotros rezando 10,000 rosarios.
