SECTION 130300 ATHLETIC ROOMS

PART 1 GENERAL
1.1 SECTION INCLUDES
A. Indoor squash court (s) including the following:
1. System description
2. Glass walls and doors
3. Accessories including but not limited to floor game line marking,
lighting, anchors and adhesives.
B. Wood flooring for the indoor gymnasium hall.
1.2 SUBMITTALS
A. SHOP DRAWINGS:
Submit shop drawings in accordance with the requirements indicated on
Drawings and as specified herein.
B. SAMPLE:
Submit samples of walls and ceiling panels, wood floor details, glass wall as
well as the glass fittings as required for the approval of the Engineer.
1.3 TRANSPORTATION, HANDLING AND STORAGE
A. Cover and protect materials in transportation and at site. Material subjected to
damage or defect during construction shall be rejected.
B. Store materials properly stacked in clean, dry storage area in accordance with
manufacturers recommendations.
1.4 WARRANTY
Manufacturer shall submit a 5 years warranty from the date of completion. Warranty
shall cover defects as structural failure, delamination, as well as workmanship under
normal playing conditions.
1.5 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. Squash court shall conform to the International Squash Rackets Federation
Specifications.
B. INSTALLER:
Work in conjunction with squash court as indicated on the Drawings and as
specified herein shall be installed by a single specialized Sub-contractor,
approved by the Engineer.

A. MATERIALS DELIVERY:
Deliver materials to site after the building is completely enclosed and
weathertight.
B. Building permanent HVAC shall bein operation prior to material delivery.
C. Bring the wood panels and flooring into site area, 5 to 7 days prior installation
for acclimation under desired use conditions, which should no be less than
65oF, nor greater than 78oF and relative humidity range of 40 to 40 percent.

2.2 SQUASH COURT SYSTEM
A. SYSTEM DESCRIPTION:
1. Squash court system shall be pre-fabricated indoor type, constructed of
three (front and two sides) panelled walls and one glass back wall as
detailed herein.
2. Squash court system as well as the related accessories, except for glass
back wall system and flooring, shall be the product of a single supplier.
3. Glass back wall system shall include mounting brackets, doors, door
hardware as well as other accessories specified herein.
4. FLOORING SYSTEM:
Manufacturer standard modular wood floor including the related sub-
floor, fittings and underlayment as shown on drawings.

B. GLASS BACK-WALL:
1. GENERAL:
Glass walls shall be manufactured and installed in accordance with the
performance standards defined by the International Squash RacketsFederation (ISRF).
2. GLASS:
For glass wall panels and supporting fins use 12 mm thick, clear float
fully tempered with a TWIN-VUE coating applied to the interior
surface of the glass prior to tempering and with the exposed edges
polished conforming to Federal Specifications DD-G-451C, DD-G-
001403, as well as ANSI Z97.1-1975.
3. GLASS MARKING:
The lower 600mm of glass wall panels and door shall have vertical
white etched or sand-blasted lines, 3 mm wide, and 25mm clear space,
applied to the plying surface.
4. GLASS TO-GLASS CONNECTIONS:
Manufacturers standard HI-Tensile ML black nylon hardware with a
tensile strength of 9,000 to 12,000 psi and a durometer hardness of D
80-90. Stops must return onto fins or posts. Connections shall be
flush from the inside (plying surface).
5. DOOR HARDWARE:
A positive locking system, with a lever handle on the exterior and a
flush-ring-pull on the interior. Finish as selected by the Engineer.
6. DOOR:
Manufactured of the same type and thickness of glass used for walls,
side-hinged to the adjacent fin, stabilizer or post. Door shall be flush
with the adjacent wall surfaces when closed. Fit door with the
necessary restraining device to stop the door opening through 180degrees.
7. PERIMETER CHANNELS:
Manufacturers standard anodized aluminum channels. Color shall be
as approved by the Engineer.
8. FIN BRACKETS:
Manufacturers standard aluminum brackets. Finish to match the
hardware and as approved by the Engineer.

9. JOINT SEALANT:
Clear, type as recommended by manufacturer.
C. WOOD FLOORING:
1. CONCRETE SUB-FLOOR:
Smooth steel-trowelled finish concrete floor conforming to the
requirements specified in Section 033000 CAST-IN PLACE
CONCRETE. Maximum tolerance in level shall not exceed 3 mm in
any 3 m radius.
2. UNDERLAYMENT:
Shall be as shown on the drawings or as recommended by
manufacturer of wood floor.
3. SUB-FLOOR:
Tarkett Sport Module as manufactured by Tarkett or approved equal.
Sub-floor shall comply with DIN 18032:2 as well as the following
requirements:
a. Manufacturer standard double-joist modular system resting on
adjustable wedges. Joist modules, 1000 x 840mm, are
connected by short joists to prevent downward pressure from
spreading too far.
b. Lower joists are 16 mm thick and flat planed and upper joists
are 95 x 500 x 22 mm thick and convex allowing joists to flex
towards their centers.
c. Provide manufacturers standard wedges, battens, staples,
packing block and skirting boards as recommended by wood
floor manufacturer.
4. WOOD FLOOR:
Tarkett Pro Squash as manufactured by Tarkett or approved equal andin accordance with the following:
a. CONSTRUCTION:
Modular units, 188 x 2520 x 22 mm thick, laminated boards of
3 layer structure:
i. WEAR LAYER:
Hardwood, Beech Nature, 3.6 mm thick.

Pine strips, 11.8mm thick with grains running at right
angles to the other layers.
iii. BOTTOM LAYER:
3-Plywood, 6.2 mm thick
b. FINISH:
Factory-sanded with Grace 80 sandpaper and pre-oiled prior to
delivery to site.
c. Floor units shall be fixed to sub-floor joists with a maximum
spacing of 420 mm on centers.
d. After installation, a coat of Tarkett Floor Oil shall be applied in
accordance with manufacturers instructions.
5. FLOOR GAME LINE MARKING:
Tarkett Line Paint as manufactured by Tarkett or approved equal.
Pigmented water-based lacquer suitable for oiled boards. Colors and
widths shall be in accordance with the requirements of the
International Squash Association.
D. LIGHTS:
Fluorescent fixtures with heat and impact resistant prismatic glass lens. Size
shall be 2 x 4 and shall fit flush with the adjacent ceiling panels.
2.3 WOOD FLOORING FOR GYMNASIUM HALL
A. CONCRETE SUB-FLOOR:
Smooth steel-trowel led finish concrete floor conforming to the requirements
specified in Section 033000 CAST-IN-PALACE CONCRETE. Maximum
tolerance in level shall not exceed 3 mm in any 3 m radius.
B. UNDERLAYMENT:
Shall be as shown on the drawings or as recommended by manufacturer of
wood floor.
C. SUB-FLOOR:
Tarkett Sport Module as manufactured by Tarkett or approved equal. Sub-

500 x 22 mm thick and convex allowing joists to flex towards their
centers.
3. Provide manufacturer standard wedges, battens, staples, packing
blocks and skirting boards as recommended by wood floormanufacturer.
D. WOOD FLOOR:
Tarkett Pro Sport as manufactured by Tarkett or approved equal and in
accordance with the following:
1. CONSTRUCTION:
An area elastic wooden sports floor constructed of 3-Layers cross-
laminated boards of total thickness 22 mm with a pre-finished Maplewear layer. Floor shall be suitable to withstand a maximum load of
2500 kg/m distributed loading and 450 kg/m point loading with at
least 400mm between points.
2. FINISH:
Wear surface shall be pre-finished at factory prior to delivery to site.
3. FLOOR GAME LINE MARKING:
Tarkett Line Paint as manufactured by Tarkett or approved equal.
Pigmented water-based lacquer. Colors and widths shall be inaccordance with the requirements of the International Sports
Associations / Federations and as shown on Drawings.
4. After installation of floor upper surface and line marking, floor shall be
lacquer in accordance with the manufacturer instructions.
PART 3 EXECUTION
3.1 INSTALLATION
A. INSTALLER QUALIFICATIONS:
A Specialized Sub-Contractor approved by the Engineer.
B. Proceed with the installation in accordance with the manufacturers
instructions and recommendations as well as the requirements specified above.
C. Playing lines shall be accurately located, dimensioned, marked and painted in
accordance with the official dimensions and sizes set forth by the International
Sports Federations and/or Associations in the official courts for the sports
indicated on Drawings.
