Caplain’s Corner:

Deacon Jeremy Tyrrell

My brother Knights,

Merry Christmas! It’s that time of the year again, and it seems to come up so

quickly and end too soon. It is one of many times of the year when Christian

celebrations take on a decidedly secular tone. Consumerism grows

exponentially at Christmas, it seems, and it can drive a good Catholic a bit

crazy. It might also drive me a bit crazy if I were a better Catholic, but as a work

in progress I pretty much take things for what they are.

Our place, as Catholics is not to see the empty pews and to long for the good

old days, nor is it to moan and gripe when the Mass gets a bit crowded at

Christmas. It is not for us to insist that others put “Christ back in Christmas” in

our stores and workplaces, when this very lack of charity and judgmental

petulance suggests perhaps he isn’t fully welcome in our own hearts.

I pray that others take me for who I am, a humble sinner who’s trying very hard

and mostly failing. I pray that I have the grace to recognize that same humanity

in others, and in doing so gradually grow in the love of Christ the man, who

started out like all of us, a babe in his mother’s arms.

It is in recognizing the Christ child that any of us can grow.

Vivat Jesus Brothers, and may God’s blessings be with you and yours in 2014.

Deacon Jeremy Tyrrell Chaplain Council 1453

I, once again, take this opportunity, along with my husband Frank, to wish you and our brother Knights and family , a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.. Dear Brother Knights,

Since this Report covers the month of

November for some Council Newsletters, and the

months of December January for other Council

Newsletters, let me first acknowledge the work and

sacrifice of our past and present military personnel

this November 11’th Remembrance Day. Their

sacrifice continues to keep us free. As to December, a

very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all

Knights and their families.

Our Youth programs are underway. A

reminder that the Essay Contest, Poster Contest and

Basketball Freethrow Kits should be ordered and

planned to be implemented by the Councils. Please

note that your Basketball Freethrow Council level

Competition should take place in the first two weeks

in January (not before and not after). Our District

level Basketball Freethrow Competion shall be held in

the 3d or 4th

week of January 2014, date to be

announced later. Councils are welcome to hold their

Council level Basketball Freethrow Competition at

the same location and date as the 3d or 4th

week of

January District level Competition, but must first

advise me of this as soon as possible.

I will be attending the December 2013 District

Deputies’ Meeting in Toronto on December 6 and 7,

2013, and will report back to our Councils upon my

return. I also plan to have a District #10 District

Deputy Meeting, shortly after this Toronto meeting,

wherein all District #10 Grand Knights and other

Council representatives, will be invited to attend.

As to membership/recruitment, most of our

Dist #10 Councils had an October Membership

church Blitz, where Form 100’s were signed and good

prospective candidates were met. Keep up the good

work, gentlemen, because as I have said before,

recruiting new members is essential to the viability of

any organization.

Finally, as always, remember to automatically

CC Your DD as to all Forms submitted by your

Council to ON State or to Supreme.

Life Matters…

Andrew J. Despins, Field Agent

A Grandparent’s Gift of Love

There are many sayings attributed to Grandparents ranging from: “I wish I would have had my grandchildren first”, to “I love to visit them, spoil them, love them, and leave them.” There is no denying the love of Grandparents for their grandchildren. Now Grandparents can leave “a gift of love” for their grandchildren, in the form of a life insurance policy. A policy that will guarantee that the insurance will grow through guaranteed future purchase options at the lowest premium. Also, accumulating tax deferred cash values that may be used in the future for college, a wedding, a down-payment on a home or to start a business. Yes, Grandparents can truly leave “a gift of love” for their grandchildren with a Knights of Columbus permanent life insurance policy! And how should a Grandparent help their grandchildren with a life policy? -A policy on the Grandparents lives payable to a “grandchildren’s trust” permits Grandparents to live after death. A true “Gift of Love!” -A policy on the grandchildren guarantees the lowest premium, large insurance benefit, and tax deferred cash value accumulation. -A premium sharing Knights of Columbus Whole Life policy between the grandparent and the grandchild’s father. In this case, the policy is applied for and the insured is the father of the grandchild. The grandparent pays the premium or a portion in whatever arrangement the grandparent and parent decide. The grandparent may be the owner, and may be listed as beneficiary equal to the premiums paid. The balance of the death benefit may be payable to a trust or guardian for the grandchildren. The premium will be lower on the parent then on the grandparent thus providing more death benefit. The parent may not be able to afford all the premiums, so the grandparent participates by paying the premium. The cash value will accumulate at a greater amount on the parent then a policy on the child. Contact me today to find out how to set up this “Gift of Love” for your family. Fraternally, Andrew Despins, FIC Field Agent [email protected] (519) 979-0899
