EATLapps.com 101 Usability issues – Masrur Hannan, March 17, 2013
Home Page
Top panel
1. Top navigation panel text links does not explain context of linked page
2. About us – should be About EATL Apps
3. J2ME to be removed – as entire section has no contents
4. Contest Result – should be “EATL Mobile App Development Contest”, or just “EATL App Dev
Contest”
5. News Archive – can be EATLapps in the News/ In the Media/ Media Mentions …. can be under
About EATL Apps section as well
6. Gallery – Should be “EATL Photo Gallery”
7. Forum to be (re)moved for now – perhaps under Contest! As there is not much content there
8. No registration button next to Login button on the top
Main Banner
9. No way to click on any of the Apps being promoted in the banner, no interaction for user – can
cause frustration in finding say the “Bangla Recipe” app
10. No sense of How many Apps being promoted
11. The arrows to navigate seem dull
12. No direction on how to pause the animation – it happens automatically, upon a click and while
mouse on the browser screen
13. The animation graphics coming from the right may seems a bit weird to some
14. Social media icons seem quite bland, on hover they brighten up however
15. On-click, social media icons – social media page opens on the same page – it should be a new
tab/ window

Main Body
Top left
16. “Mobile Apps Development Contest Result” should be rather a graphic about the App Dev
Contest, not the results
17. Platform to be removed/ renamed to “App Categories” – as there are NO J2ME apps right now,
no point discussing multiple platforms
18. Latest News – text of news item snippets Not readable
19. On-click of the “more…” link of any news item – a bland page opens
Main body – middle
20. NO Mention of How Many Apps Available and how are those Sorted
21. No sign of how the apps are categorized and what those categories are until clicking Android
22. Only promoting “New Apps”, Top Rated, Most Downloaded could be very useful
23. No option to Filter the apps – i.e. by category, by Free/ Paid, by Rating etc
24. Option to Detailed view as it is in the inner section pages – could be useful
3 | 101 Usability Issues of EATLapps.com at of March 15, 2013 – by Masrur Hannan, March 17, 2013
Every App’s box:
25. The graphics should be half the dimension = lesser the size
26. The “Free” as an action button is unnecessary
27. No mention of number of downloads – VITAL
28. No explanation on How many Votes behind the # of stars
29. No mention of how many reviews (some apps do contain various reviews)
30. No mention of Publisher/ App Developer – even if it is EATL, it can be mentioned
“Free Apps” panel on the bottom
31. Is the panel necessary?!
32. Aren’t all Apps free at this time, anyway? Then why mention $$ now?
About us/ About EATL Apps page
33. The left panel to have more enticing shortcuts to the Mobile App Categories, The Contest, The
News, Photo Gallery etc
34. The bland text to be removed – people rarely read paragraphs on the web…
35. Clear communication about EATL being the First Mobile App Store in Bangladesh
36. Exciting presentation of EATL: Started from 1999 – with Mobile App Store since 2012, partners/
clients logos, EATL services/ software (ERP, Community clinic) etc.
37. Gloating stuff about EATL App Dev Contest
38. Easy access to EATL corporate website
39. Should have photos of exciting EATL moments of achievements
Quick observations on Navigation, some textual errors
40. URLs to be improved – more search engine optimized
41. The Breadcrumb navigation texts require improvement
42. The site’s Navigation structure is quite weak, to be improved with principles of Information
Architecture
43. Naming of apps may require corrections: i.e. the Diabetes app is named: Diabetics.apk, the
Bangla Recipe is printed at “Recipe” – can be confusing

Platform-wise view Apps’ section/ category pages – skipped (20+ issues anticipated), being developed
with Improved Information Architecture
To name a few:
44. From the top menu, on-hover Android – the categories does not look like links:
Why not utilize the Mega Menu with better textual and link appearance?
Part of the main body of the page
On left panel –
45. Remove J2ME – as there is NO apps under this section
46. “Top Rates” – I guess it will be Top Rated; Android Category – I guess should be categories
47. App Categories: No indication on how many apps under each category
48. News category doesn’t have the app “Health and Fitness News” – it seems to be under health,
same app can have multiple categories
5 | 101 Usability Issues of EATLapps.com at of March 15, 2013 – by Masrur Hannan, March 17, 2013
App’s Detailed page: i.e. Stock Exchange http://www.eatlapps.com/appsearch/details/28
49. Breadcrumb not functional “Home/ > Details” … of what? What was the path to this page?
50. Description texts not quite readable – text color mixes with page background color
51. Quality of the Description Texts are quite poor – requires a lot of polishing
Example: Decorate Your Love app’s description:
“Decorate your beloved with lots of fun. This is a nice application to decorate your love with a lot
of fun. Simply you can load an image of yours beloved from the SD card or you can capture
his/her image using camera of your mobile. After successful selection, you have to press tools
button to get objects (such as flowers, kiss, leaves, guitars, love balloons etc.) to decorate yours
beloved. You can throw those objects on the picture wherever you want. Moreover, you will have
opportunity to save picture, send through email and share on social medias (such as: Facebook,
twitter and so on) with your beloved or friends.”
52. In the “Average Rating” … Next to 5 Star and the Bar – it could say 9 users ….
53. This page doesn’t share some VITAL information –
number of downloads
Publisher/ App Developer
Date of app coming to the market
There can be various other information the page could share!
54. Visitor can write a review – but no option to make suggestions/ bug reports… contacting the
developers
55. More apps from the same developers
56. User can wish to comment by logging in with his/her social media accounts (Facebook/ twitter/
linked in/ Google) – a common practice these days
57. No mention of Similar Apps/ viewers of this app also viewed
6 | 101 Usability Issues of EATLapps.com at of March 15, 2013 – by Masrur Hannan, March 17, 2013
Login/ Registration/ Forgot Password etc
Now, let’s say I want to download the app … a world of trouble begins!
58. Upon clicking “Download” – an Error like message!
59. On-click “OK” the login page loads
60. Interface asks my email and password – what if I do not have an Account
61. There is NO button suggesting Sign Up! There is a “Join us” link with No low indication of being a
link appears next to “Not a member yet?”
62. The registration form loads very quickly with JS/ AJAX – great, asking for username –
look at the screen for login asks for email and password, then why bother the user to put in a
username?! Just use the email as login and mention that email will be used as login
7 | 101 Usability Issues of EATLapps.com at of March 15, 2013 – by Masrur Hannan, March 17, 2013
63. Signup confirmation email goes to Spam folder for a lot of new signups:
64. The new sign up/ post registration email should offer better User Experience, welcoming the
member, giving some quick context info, references/ direction to recover access etc
65. Let’s not forget the “Forgot password” interaction – upon submitting the form with email
address, no confirmation. When reviewing email – it says my password was already changed!
Bad UX – should follow international practices…
Now, let’s log in!
66. A lot of times, I myself get a blank screen after trying to login –
67. after refreshing the page my browser (FF) I get option to Resend the request:
8 | 101 Usability Issues of EATLapps.com at of March 15, 2013 – by Masrur Hannan, March 17, 2013
68. After “Resend” – have to Allow redirecting, a lot of people gets redirection notifications from
browser …
69. I am finally logged in: why all the loops and steps? Why not as smooth as it should have been?!
70. My welcome message and access to My Account – appears almost invisibly like the Login button
71. But wait a tic, That’s the HOME PAGE!!! – I was about to download an App! Now, go back to
finding the App I had gotten interested about and even registered to download…
So I go back to the Stock Exchange App page (but let’s imagine it was the Bangla Recipe) one as it
was promoted in the Home Page Banner:
Back on the Stock Exchange App page, I click download: Very poor presentation of a download
page
9 | 101 Usability Issues of EATLapps.com at of March 15, 2013 – by Masrur Hannan, March 17, 2013
72. No mention of what I am downloading (the stock exchange app)
73. No additional information regarding the download: device/ os requirement, source of app: the
developers, how many people had downloaded the same app in the past, what are people
saying about the app etc
74. User gets the option to download a .apk file – when visiting the site (PC/ laptop) with No
direction on what to do with it or how to use the app in an android device
75. After download – no confirmation (feedback) on what user has just done … just a msg saying:
“Transaction Sucessful. Your Download link is below-“ … what transaction?!
76. The download URLs (http://www.eatlapps.com/apiinfo/bkash_check/35 these type of pages)
when tried from a different browser with No-Login – anyone can download!! Security!
77. Try ALL of the Above Steps using a Mobile Phone! … Mukti Juddher chetona’r opposite :D
78. I have tried to download through my android device (Samsung Nexus S) and with GP Internet –
even after 3 attempts I failed: all 3 times the Download was unsuccessful
79. A mobile site m.eatlapps.com is Quite Necessary
Contest Result Page: should have been Contest, skipped (15 – 20 issues anticipated), being developed
with Improved Information Architecture for an entire Section about the App Dev Contest …
To name a few:
80. The spirit of the contest and the Energy around the contest is Not at all demonstrated
10 | 101 Usability Issues of EATLapps.com at of March 15, 2013 – by Masrur Hannan, March 17, 2013
81. The left panel contents should have been on easy to read pages
82. The “Key Dates” – after such a date has passed, update and progress info
83. The Registration should BE a quick form to fill up and submit online
New Archive: should have been EATLApps in the News/ Media Mentions…. (10+ issues), being
developed with Improved Information Architecture for an entire Section EATLApps in the News …
To name a few:
84. No sense of When the news items were published
85. No text of the news item
86. The reading experience of news items to be improved – the photo gallery style: NO good
87. No quick link to the news clip page
88. The left panel should needed to offer more access to other shortcuts – even EATL company
information related

90. Recent photos – with recent happenings around EATLApps
91. No indication of number of pictures within an album
92. The Title of Album 3 gets mixed with Description of Album 1 …. The album name could be a bit
descriptive!
93. When viewing Photo Gallery – there is no need for the App Categories to be the Only left panel
shortcut
94. Need to have links to “About EATLApps” related contents on the left panel
95. When trying to view any photo – it is a Painful Task, loads a lot of photos
11 | 101 Usability Issues of EATLapps.com at of March 15, 2013 – by Masrur Hannan, March 17, 2013
96. Photos do not contain captions, no idea of who are people in the photos, where the photo was
taken and On What Date - time etc info
97. A gallery of EATLApps’ screen shots – why not?!
My Account page
98. How do I edit my email address?
99. Most people are Not developers – why the banner for every one? Rather this banner should
have been on the hope page
100. “Become a developer” is inappropriate – should have been “I am a developer” then
collect info; be it for contest or future reference
101. No indication of the following, unless I fill up the “Become a developer” form
