Our Language Arts program is a three-fold approach that focuses on reading, writing and word study.

• Writing: We use the Lucy Calkins program. Students will write about things they know. Skills will be developed on a gradual basis throughout the year.

• Reading: StoryTown is our reading/language arts series that is filled with a variety of literature tailored to each students’ reading level. Reading is in both whole group and small groups.
• Lectura: StoryTown es la serie de los libros de inglés. Los estudiantes se reunen en un grupo grande para una mini lección que enseña una destreza especifica como tambien el desarrollo del vocabulario. Tambien se trabaja en grupos pequeños.
• Spelling: Words Their Way develops students’ spelling, phonics, phonemic awareness and vocabulary through word sorts.
• Ortografía: Words Their Way (Palabras a su manera) pone las palabras en acción y desarrolla la fonetica, ortografia y su vocabulario atravez de grupos individuales.

Assessments are required. Assessments do not go home, but results should be communicated to parents.

Math Expressions focuses on two core concepts starting in Kindergarten through 5th grade.1. Number concepts
Breaking apart numbers, or finding the embedded numbers, is the key concept running through all the number units.
2. An algebraic approach to word problems
Students begin working with story problems and create word problems in Kindergarten
and continue throughout the other grades.

4. Scroll down to find desired grade level.
