What’s good? These hand-finished
CE-certified riding boots are fresh from
Alpinestars’ new Oscar range of retro protective
clothing. Made from thick, vintage-effect, full-grain
leather with a grippy, oil-resistant rubber sole, these
boots are sturdy and comfortable, on and off a bike.
And although they’re not billed as being waterproof, I’ve
worn them in heavy rain a few times and my feet have
stayed dry.
What’s not? It’s not a two-minute job to get them on,
but that’s the price you pay for a sturdy boot. They’re
not the cheapest either, but they’re well worth it.

What’s good? I feel like Batman wearing a utility belt,
it’s a great bit of kit. I’m riding a Harley-Davidson this
year, which doesn’t lend itself to fitting a tankbag, so I’ve needed
an alternative way to carry essential bits and pieces. The waist
bag has a two-litre capacity that holds a phone, purse and bottle
of water but it’s not so big that I overpack it. The
waist strap is fully adjustable and fits snugly, plus
there’s a handy visor carrier, too.
What’s not? I recently got caught in two days of
torrential rain while on a mini-break and the bag
let water in. It doesn’t claim to be waterproof so I should have
thought to pop my bits and pieces in a plastic bag inside the bag.

What’s good? I’ve
never used wax polish after
washing bikes, but this silicon-
free foam spray was drafted in
to bring my 2015 long-term test
bike back up to scratch after
a year of daily use. It’s easy to
use – just spray and polish with a
cloth. It doesn’t take ages to buff
up to a good quality shine, and
despite using it rather liberally
on my 2015 Kawasaki 1400GTR
– which has acres of fairings – it
feels like there’s loads left in the
500ml can. After only spending a
few minutes with the polish, the
plastics looked almost new, with
no visible streaks. The polish can
be used on aluminium, carbon,
titanium, and painted surfaces.
What’s not? Like standard,
non-spray wax, it can build up
around stickers and screws,
leaving white residue around the
edges. Since it’s a spray it can be
a little messy to apply, especially
if you’re working outdoors on
a windy day. Spraying it onto
a cloth first is better for those
awkward places.
