    STOCK MARKET REPORT

    The PSEi recorded new highs 12 times before ending the month at 6,242.74points, higher by 7.4% or 430.01 points from the close in December 2012. This

    was also an increase of 33.3% or 1,560.30 points from the 4,682.44 close in

    January a year ago. The market received a boost from the US Congress fiscal

    cliff deal just before the year 2013 opened as well as the strong growth in

    Philippine gross domestic product the prior year.

    All of the six sector indices advanced during the month, led by the Mining and Oilindex which rose by 11.0%. The Property and Holding Firms indices followed

    with a gain of 9.1% and 7.9%, respectively. The Services index grew by 7.3%,

    while the Industrial index added 7.1%. The Financials index also went up by

    5.9%. The broader All-Shares index, meanwhile, rose by 6.4% or 238.56 points

    to finish at 3,937.54 from 3,698.98 in December.

    A total of P200.38 billion worth of shares exchanged hands in January,registering a 37.7% expansion from P145.55 billion a year ago. Month-on-

    month, this was a 30.2% increase from P153.94 billion in December 2012. The

    average daily value turnover for January amounted to P9.11 billion, 31.4% morethan the P6.93 billion posted a year ago.

    Foreign investors were net buyers as foreign funds that flowed into the markethit P27.15 billion, 70.0% higher than the P15.97 billion net foreign buying in the

    same month last year and 72.9% more than the P15.70 billion net foreign buying

    in the previous month. Foreign trades accounted for 48.5% of market activity in

    January.
