SENATE 9:08 PMThey didn’t have a full meeting last week because they all went to the Black Stud-ies exhibit in the library. They’re having another one on Wednesday about poverty and race at 7. Go to that, stay tuned.

RECYCLEMANIA 9:08 PMMolly’s not here this week, so there’s no skit. :(

Week 1 went well! At the end of the 8 weeks of Recyclemania, they will have 3 winners instead of 1 this year! There will be a 1st place for most recycling done per person, 1st place for least amount of landfill per person, and 1st place for largest diversion rate from landfill to recycling. Each 1st place winner will get $250 for their hall! Keep on recycling, y’all are doing well.

NUMBERS FOR THE FIRST WEEK:Most amount of recycling done per person:

1st place: Collango, 1.066 pounds2nd place: Crispell, 0.78 pounds3rd place: Lenape, 0.71 pounds

Least amount of landfill per person:1st place: Bouton, 3.65 pounds2nd place: Bliss, 4.2 pounds3rd place: Scudder, 4.4 pounds

Diversion rate:1st place: Collango, 17%2nd place: Crispell, 16%3rd place: Lenape, 13%

Overall, everyone did really well! It was a tight race, and Syed had to crunch a bunch of numbers. Keep recycling!

The Snapchat challenge is almost over. All designs are due THIS FRIDAY by 11:59pm. Email them to [email protected]. It doesn’t have to be de-signed by someone in your Hall Gov; it can be designed by anyone in your hall. More details about the Instagram challenge to come at later meetings. Keep post-ing things and tagging @newpaltzrecycles and @newpaltzgreen.

FUNDING REQUESTS 9:11 PM

UNITED GREEK ASSOCIATION

PRESENTATION:Hi, I’m Tye, and I’m the president of UGA, which is the United Greek Association. We’re pretty much the RHSA of Greek life.

I’m Josh, and I’m the event chair for UGA.We’re hosting an event called B-Positive. This program raises money for fighting against childhood cancer. We didn’t get funding this year, so we’re asking you guys for $250 for food so that people will come to the event. Last year SA funded us, but they stopped this year. Last year we spent around the same amount of money. We’re gonna have some dance groups, like Impacto and Melodia. It’s open to everyone, and the money will help us bring more people to the event.

Motion to open Question and Answer: LenapeSecond: Ridgeview

QUESTION/ANSWER:Esopus: As far as turnout last year, how much money did you raise?

- We made $1,500 last year, and we’re hoping to double it this year. We’re gonna have raffles too this year for incentive. Different stores in town are do-nating gift cards to us. We’re also having a Greek week that will lead up to this program on Saturday.

Bouton: What kind of food are you getting?- One of our delegates works at Cuddies, so we’re hoping to get a good deal

there.Ridgeview: Did you find that you ran out of food last year?

- Yea, we want to get more food this year.Crispell: Where did you get the money last year?

- Last year Senate used to fund us, and they don’t this year.Scudder: If you were to ask for money, what would that amount be?

- Last year I spent $100 of my own money, so I guess that.Crispell: You said you ran out of food with the $250 last year, are you gonna get more food with the same amount of money this year?

- Yes, we’re gonna have the same amount but hopefully get more because we have someone who works at Cuddies. We’re also gonna be more mindful of portions this year.

Ridgeview: What’s the budget right now?- We have $2,200 right now.

Deyo: How many people do you expect?- Last year we had 200 people come to the event.

Bouton: Are you using different advertising this year that you expect more people to come?

- We’re having more groups perform this year, so hopefully those people in-volved will bring their friends to the event.

Sammi: When is the event?- March 5th from 12:30-4:30 in the MPR.

Motion to close Question and Answer: ScudderSecond: Collango

Motion to open Discussion: BoutonSecond: Bevier

DISCUSSION:Esopus: Considering they raised $1,500 last year and had 200 people come, that’s an amazing turnout. People go to events for food, we all know this. Not having food at their event will be detrimental to the program as well as the money they’re raising.Lenape: In reference to a previous comment, food is a great way to entice people to come to programs. They’re using their previous experience, looking for deals, and are getting discounts. It really looks like they’re trying to get the most bang for their buck.Crispell: They said they want to portion better, and they’re being more mindful this year.Bouton: Yield to redundancyScudder: Yield to redundancyLenape: It’s really great that they reached out to more performance groups this year. They’re really trying to get a bigger turnout and more donations this year.Scudder: He said that he spent $100 of his own money last year. They’re trying to get a bigger turnout and more donations.

Motion to close Discussion: BoutonSecond: Deyo

Motion to vote by closed eyes hand raise: ScudderSecond: LeFevre

VOTING:Yes to the whole amount: 19 peopleYes to a different amount: 6 peopleNo confidence: 0 peopleAbstain: 2 people

We voted to give them the full amount!

JEWISH STUDENT UNION

PRESENTATION:Hi, I’m Benjamin Schoenfeld. You can call me Benjy, everyone does. I’m here from JSU, which is the Jewish Student Union. It’s fun. Next week, we are having our first Jewish Identity Week! We’ll be having different philanthropic events through-out the week that celebrate being Jewish. Purim Katan is a minor Jewish holiday that only occurs once every 3 or 4 years when there’s a Jewish leap year. We want to have live music and food, and that’s where most of the money will be going to. I know we’re asking for a lot, it’s $1,950. We had some trouble with funding this year, which is why we’re asking for money from RHSA. This event will be targeted towards the Jewish population, but anyone is welcome to come. That’s it, please ask questions.

Motion to open Question and Answer: LenapeSecond: Esopus

Lenape: What will the bulk of this money go towards?

- Food is the most costly. This is a week long event, and most of our events are charity based. Clubs will be tabling.

Bevier: Is RHSA the only place you’ve looked to for money?- I’ve looked everywhere. We’ve asked so many places, we’ve looked under

chairs. We’ve tried everything.Bouton: How many people are you expecting to come?

- At least 50 people.Crispell: Can you discuss the different programs you’ll be having during the week?

- Each day is different. The sororities and fraternities will be tabling. AEPi will be tabling for Gift of Life, and we’re collecting bone marrow swabs. We’ll also be playing Israeli dodgeball, which is SO FUN. Our original idea was to get Kosher Mexican food which is delicious. We’ll take whatever we can get.

Deyo: Where is this food coming from?- It’s from a place on Long Island, it’s called Carlos and Gabby’s. It’s really

good.Bouton: Which day are you looking to get this money for?

- Most of the money will be going towards our Tuesday night program.Lenape: You said you wanted music, who did you reach out to about it?

- We’re looking to book a Jewish band.Ridgeview: You said this holiday occurs every 4 years, have you done this program before?

- No, this is the first time we’re putting on this event.Bevier: How much are you asking for?

- $1,950. It’s absurd I know.Scudder: Besides food, what else will the money be going towards?

- Some other expenses throughout the week, like the Jewish band.Bevier: Besides the Jewish band, what else?

- Decorations, paperware, stuff like that.DuBois: If you didn’t get the money today, where would you go to?

- We’ve literally looked everywhere.

Motion to extend by 5 minutes: LenapeSecond: Bevier

Bouton: What would happen if you couldn’t get the band?- We’re asking them specifically because they’re a Jewish band. I don’t know

who else we would ask.Lenape: Have you asked for sponsorship from the food place?

- I’m not sure.

REMINDER THAT ALL ELECTRONIC DEVICES NEED TO BE PUT AWAY!

Deyo: Do you have a plan for alternate food vendors?- We have some other options, but who doesn’t love Mexican food?

LeFevre: If you were to only ask for food, how much would you need only for that?- About $700. Kosher food is very expensive. It’s more than just not eating cer-

tain things, the way it’s prepared is completely different.

Deyo: How many people are you looking to serve?- Around 50.

Angelique: Can you give us a breakdown for every single thing?- $700 for food, $700 for the band, and the extra $400 would go to decorations

and paper goods. Little things like that.Esopus: Why are you so unsure of the band? Are they too expensive or do you just not know if you can book them?

- We’re unsure because we don’t know if we have the money.Lenape: Have you even done this program before?

- No, this is the first time. We’re hoping it goes well and we get to do it next year.

Rui: When is this program?- All of next week, which is the 22nd I believe. It’s Monday-Friday.

Scudder: After the last funding request, how much money do we have left?- We have $2,000.

Angelique: Since the event is next week, have you talked to the caterer and gotten an accurate quote?

- Yes, and we’ll probably just have someone drive down there to pick it up; we’re not paying for them to deliver it to us.

Sammi: You said $700 for the band, $700 for food, and $400 for decorations. There’s till $150 left over. Where is that going?

- The remaining amount is going towards decorations. Sorry the numbers were wrong, I don’t have the exact breakdown on me.

Deyo: Is it possible to give him a different amount?- We do that during discussion, not question and answer.

Motion to extend by 5 minutes: LenapeSecond: Bouton

Bouton: Where are you getting silverware and cups from, Stop and Shop, Just a Buck…?

- Probably from a supermarket. We’re gonna try to keep it as cheap as possible.Lenape: Have you considered asking the supermarket for sponsorship?

- No, we haven’t.Capen: Have you looked into cheaper food options?

- Yea, it looks like we’re gonna have to go for something cheaper. But like I al-ways say, go big or go home, am I right? We’ll look for alternatives in the worst case scenario.

Ridgeview: Will you be having 50 people per day or for the whole week?- 50 people each day.

Motion to close Question and Answer: BoutonSecond: LeFevre

Deyo: I dissent.LeFevre: I rescind.Bouton: I rescind.

Deyo: Each day, exactly how many people are you expecting?- It depends. It’s not consistent amount during the day. Some events are

smaller and some are bigger. We’re also tabling a lot.Bliss: If you only got enough money for food, would you still have the program?

- Yea, it wouldn’t be as big, but we’d still do it. It’s Tuesday at 8:30 in SUB 100.Lenape: Would you still have the rest of the weeks events if you didn’t get money for food?

- Yes, we’d still have everything else. We have a commitment to charity and helping people. All the tabling will still be happening outside SUB 100.

Scudder: How much money do your alternate food options cost?- I’m not 100% sure, but it would definitely be cheaper.

Motion to close Question and Answer: LenapeSecond: Esopus

Motion to open Discussion: CrispellSecond: Scudder

DISCUSSION:Lenape: Yes, this is a large amount to give out. He mentioned that even if the full request isn’t met, he would have enough for food to provide, and they would still have the events during the week. I think as long as we provide a certain amount, they’ll be able to have the rest of the program just fine.Lenape: The band seems unnecessary. They could just ask the A Cappella groups to sing. They could also get cheaper food from a different place. I think if we give them $500, they can still do what they want and be fine.Crispell: This is the first time they’re doing this program, and they seem to be overestimating the cost a lot. He said that he needed $750 for food, and that was the most expensive option he could get. There are cheaper options. The band seems a bit redundant, when they could just get an A Cappella group to sing, or they could even just play music from a sound system. A lot of their programs seem to be tabling throughout the week. Few programs need food.Bliss: I agree, the band seems unnecessary. As for the cost of decorations, I think he’s overestimating the price a lot.Bouton: If reference to a previous comment, I say we give them $700. He was very sure of the cost of food. If we give them enough for the food, they can com-pensate on the other things that they’re unsure about.Bevier: Yes, the food is very expensive, but that’s because it’s Kosher, which I be-lieve is the reason they’re doing this. They’re a Jewish organization, and we have to acknowledge the dietary restriction of being Jewish. Kosher food is really im-portant for them to have at this program.Capen: He said that there are cheaper Kosher options, this one’s just the most ex-pensive.Scudder: In reference to a previous comment, he said there were cheaper options, he didn’t say they were Kosher.Capen: If at least 50 people come to this event, and they’re paying $700 for 50 people, that seems like overkill, Kosher or not.

Gage: It would be 50 people each day, not just 50 people over the course of the week.Ridgeview: Yield to redundancy.Bouton: In reference to a previous comment, maybe they’re over-guessing on the food they need. Maybe they can get the Kosher place to lower their prices. The leftover money comes back to us. If they’re overestimating, we’ll get the money back.

Motion to extend by 5 minutes: LenapeSecond: Bliss

Deyo: He said something like “go big or go home”, but he didn’t really have com-parative pricing on anything.

Motion to close Discussion: BoutonSecond: Ridgeview

Motion to vote by closed eyes hands raised: LenapeSecond: LeFevre

VOTING:Yes to the whole amount:0 peopleYes to a different amount: 26 peopleNo confidence: 0 peopleAbstain: 2 people

We voted to give JSU a different amount, so we have to reopen discussion to figure out which amounts to vote for.

Motion to reopen Discussion: LenapeSecond: DuBois

Bevier: I think $700 is a reasonable amount. They’d be able to get the Kosher food from the place they want. If they’re unable to get that food, they’d have enough to get food from somewhere else in addition to decorations and such. The leftover amount would come back to us.Collango: I think around $900 is a good amount. It’s enough for the food, and I think the Jewish band is important since it’s a Jewish identity event. Any money to go towards that would be useful.Lenape: I think $750 is a good amount. They’ll be able to function with each event they have for the food they need, plus alternate Kosher options. Also, with the amount we have left in the budget, there may be future funding requests. Ariana: Point of clarification, funding requests work on a first come first serve ba-sis. The amount you choose to give him is totally up to you guys. If you choose to give him the full amount and someone comes to us for a funding request tomorrow, it’s their fault they didn’t ask us sooner.Bevier: I think $800 is good. I agree that the Jewish band is important because it’s a Jewish identity week, so this would be bringing the real world aspect into it. They’d have enough for food. The original amount was crazy, but I think $800 is reasonable.

Bouton: I agree with the $800, and the whole Jewish identity aspect of it was a good thing to bring up. It’s important to acknowledge that. I think if we give them enough for food plus a little extra, they’ll be able to put everything into perspec-tive.Lenape: I also agree with $800. They can always find Kosher options, or maybe they can even seek out sponsorship now. I think they can get both the food and the band if they play their cards right.Bevier: It’s a week long event and they have have a lot of stuff planned out that they can spread the money around.Deyo: I wanna go back to the $700. He didn’t talk about other specific events that needed food. Only 1 or 2 events do. He also didn’t really elaborate on the other events, and he seemed unsure of what else was happening during the week.Crispell: I would be more comfortable giving them $800 if he specified more of the events. It’s expected that they won’t have everything completely planned out be-cause it’s their first time hosting this program, but it’s a week away, and you should know what you’re doing. I say either $700 or $750.

Motion to extend by 5 minutes: LenapeSecond: Scudder

Deyo: It’s a week long event, and it’s next week. They should be more aware of what’s going on.

Motion to close Discussion: BoutonSecond: Collango

Motion to vote closed eyes hands raised: BevierSecond: Lenape

VOTING:Lenape: Point of information, what do we need to pass the vote?- We need a 2/3 vote, and all abstentions change the amount that 2/3 equals.

Reminder that if you’ve abstained in the past, you have to keep abstaining for the rest of the vote. If you abstained, it means you have a bias that prevents you from voting a certain way, and that bias won’t go away after one vote.

$700: 10 people$750: 2 people$800: 14 people $900: 0 peopleNo confidence: 0 peopleAbstain: 2 people

We didn’t reach a 2/3 vote. Now, we kick out the amount that the least number of people voted for, which is $900.

Motion to reopen Discussion: LenapeSecond: Bliss

DISCUSSION:Lenape: We should give $800. We don’t know the different Kosher options. Benjy seemed confident that they had options that were cheaper. Getting the Jewish band has cultural importance. With $800, they would still be able to have the event whether or not they get the band.Scudder: I say $750. People argue $700, people argue $800. Let’s meet in the middle so everyone has a little joy in their heart.Bouton: If they have leftover money, we get it back. If we give them $800 and they don’t use it all, we’ll get that money back.Collango: $50 isn’t gonna make or break our budget. Let’s just give them $750.Bevier: In regards to a previous comment, $50 might not make or break our bud-get, but it could really influence them. $50 going towards food is a lot of money. I think the $50 can help them. I say $800.

The AC didn’t come to a decision. YOU NEED TO FIGHT FOR WHAT YOU WANT! We have to reopen discussion, and now it’s between $750 and $800.

Motion to reopen Discussion: ScudderSecond: Esopus

DISCUSSION:Lenape: $50 might not seem like it could break our budget, but it can be really im-portant to them. They’ll still run every event if they get the food, and the band was of cultural importance. There might be another option for the band if they really can’t get it.Scudder: Just a reminder that funding requests are first come, first serve. If they have extra money it’ll come back to us. $50 won’t make it that big of a deal.Bouton: This is the first time they’re putting this event on. Benjy seems passion-ate. They’ll be thankful for the $800 if we give it to them.Collango: This holiday only happens once every 4 years. It’s important to them, give them the $800.Bevier: It’s important to them. If we were all up there fighting for this money, we would want the $800 to put on our program. An $800 program will be better than a $750 program. $50 makes a big difference when it comes to buying stuff, espe-cially food.

Lenape: Even if they don’t get the food they wanted, having any kind of Kosher food is still really important.Gage: He kept on not even wanting to say the amount he needed. If we give them $800, they’ll sit down and really think about it. It’s crunch time for them.Crispell: This is the first time they’re putting on this program, and the more money we give them, the more successful it will be.Lenape: They’re not only hosting for cultural purposes, but they’re also hosting for their philanthropies.Scudder: Most of this money is going to one night. The more success that one night has, the more success the rest of the week will have, especially since this one is so early in the week.

Motion to extend by 5 minutes: BoutonSecond: Scudder

Deyo: They’re not getting food for every day. If there was food every day, they’d get like 250 people every day, and they’re not. $800 is really a lot to give away to uncertainty.Bevier: At this point, we’re arguing over $50. We should just give them $800. The $50 won’t make or break RHSA’s budget, but it could really help them out. We’ve already cut down his budget a lot, $800 is a good medium.Lenape: Kosher is just more expensive. Since this is a first time event, they wanna make it as good as possible so people will be enticed to go to future events. This holiday won’t happen for another 4 years, but this will leave an amazing first im-pression.Gage: At this point, if you think that $750/$800 is too much, the only other option is no money at all. He seemed really concerned that they couldn’t find money any-where else, and this event is next week. $800 is good.

NominationsNCC applications were due today. If you have one, you can pass it out now. No one had one, so NCC nominations are still open. Since no one had an applica-tion, the NCC election will happen after the historian election at the end of the se-mester.

Bevier: Point of information, in Article 7, Section 2: Qualifications, Paragraph 1, it says that each e-board member has to “be a resident of the residence halls for at least one year (two full semesters).” However, it doesn’t say that you currently have to be living in a residence hall to serve on the e-board. So you technically don’t have to live in a residence hall.- While it doesn’t explicitly state you have to live on campus in our Constitution,

under NACURH and NEACURH policy, any affiliates in an RHA, NRHH, etc. have to be living living on campus to do their thing. It should say it in our Constitu-tion, and we’ll probably amend it to make it more explicit.

Sammi: I just wanna say something. Being an NCC opens you up to new things. It’s not just about what you do on campus, you get to meet people from all over the country, not just New York and the Northeast. I was the NCC last year, and I learned to be more open and I got to learn how to speak to more people outside of the school and this community. It also looks good on resume; I get the chance to say that I represented New Paltz on a regional AND national level. It’s also a great opportunity to network and build those skills, it’s a really great position to have if you’re looking to grow as a person.Mike: Adding to that, it’s a really great networking opportunity, and it’s an espe-cially great position if you’re looking to work within higher education and ResLife. Our NCC from 2008 is now the RD advisor of Northeastern’s RHA. I’m not gonna sugarcoat it; it’s a lot of work. But being the regional and national voice of New Paltz is such an awesome experience. If you have any reservations, talk to me and Maria during our office hours Wednesdays from 5-8, after the meeting, email us at [email protected], or if you just see us around campus anywhere.Rui: I’ve never been an NCC, but I’ve gone to a conference, and it’s life changing. You meet different people from different places, and I met another astronomy ma-jor; I thought I was the only one!

HALL CONCERNS 10:28 PMRidgeview: Not really a concern, but how exactly do our new PR’s get access to printing?- For the most part, they print from their own quota. However, each hall gets 50

pages worth of free printing from the RHSA office. Email us with what you want printed, and Rui will print out however many you want. He’ll put it in your folder or you can pick it up at the RHSA office.

STUDENT CONCERNS 10:29 PMScudder: If you remember last semester, there was that whole thing about not be-ing able to park in the Ridgeview parking lot overnight, but you could park in the lot next to the Southside house? Did anything ever happen with that?- Ariana talked to Jenn. She said that you CAN park in the Ridgeview lot

overnight and won’t get ticketed, but don’t test out that theory. Park behing Lenape because it’s so close to Ridgeview, and no one parks there.

Deyo: Why don’t they sell bottled water anymore?- For sustainability purposes. With our Coke merger thing that happened last

year, it’s in our contract with Coke saying they can’t sell bottled water on cam-pus. The sustainability office, RHSA office, and some other office on campus

have free water bottles, and you can get water from any of the freestyle Coke machines on campus. They sell Smart Water and Vitamin Water.

Lenape: Going off of that, I worked for the sustainability office last semester. Ev-ery week at the farmer’s market which is now on Thursdays, we had a table and gave out water bottles. There are also like, 54 water fountains that have been turned into refill stations. Save the ducks.Capen: When are the paper agendas going to stop?- Next year.

OPEN FLOOR 10:32 PMCrispell: The A Cappella community is having their first dorm performance this Thursday at 10pm! It will be in our very own Crispell. The Pitches are dressing as boys, so it should be fun, check us out.Bouton: I’m teaching Zumba on Friday at 6:30, come to my class so it looks good.Lenape: This Thursday from 12:30-2, we’re having a DIY space day. We’ll make stuff like lava lamps and galaxy space jars.Lenape: In regards to Dance Marathon, I encourage you all to reach out to your Hall Govs and RA’s to put donation jars in your offices. If you haven’t created a group yet, you can still do it; it’s not too late. Any donation is welcomed and en-couraged.Bevier: What exactly IS Dance Marathon?- Dance Marathon is a dance marathon where you dance for a long time. You’re

dancing to raise money to support the Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital in Westchester. You can sign up as a team or an individual, and you’re trying to raise $62 that will go to this hospital. On the day of the event, there will be dancing, a morale dance, different performance groups, and quiet room with ac-tivities for the children who come. We’re also support the families and children that come to the event. Even if you aren’t fundraising, it’s an open event. You won’t be dancing for money, but you’d be there to support everyone there who is dancing for money. There will also be a suggested donation at the door that will go towards our total.

- We’re dancing for 8 hours for all of the kids who can’t.Sammi: There’s a Chinese New Year event in the MPR on Friday at 7, sorry Bre-anna. Go get sweaty at Zumba then eat free Asian food with me!Ariana: This Saturday at 9pm is Collango’s Saturday Night Fever! It’s a Bingo night. We’ll be bingo-ing off a $50 Visa gift card, a kindle fire, Dunkin’ gift cards, t-shirts, water bottles, and other small prizes. We’ll have finger foods!Rui: Make sure you join our Facebook group “RHSA Programming and Events”. It’s now an open group thanks to our historian Alejandro. Also, the posters for Open Mic Night are ready, but I forgot to bring them. I’ll be walking to every hall to give them to you, so if you see me, please let me in. If you like physics, there’s a new physics club starting on campus! We meet on Thursdays at 7 in the SUB. We do fun physics stuff like virtual images. Don’t know what virtual images are? Come find out!! Also, good luck with RA interviews everyone. Walk safe and be careful.
