Rev. Phyllis Parthemer, Pastor
Lent. The season leading up to Easter. When we take 40 days
(excluding Sunday’s) to prepare for Easter. God places great emphasis on taking time to reflect and prepare. This fits into His plan for us to honor a Sabbath time in our weekly schedules. It takes intentionality to keep God first when the world pulls us and the sin in our lives tempts us away from obedience to God.
Lent. A time of reflection on the choices we make in life to be
the most faithful created being of God that we can be. Lent. Begins with Ash Wednesday. A service in the Chapel at
7pm will remind us of our humanity. We came from dust and from dust we shall return. We are called to repent of our sins and believe in the gospel. UMCPB offers an amazing opportunity to also drive by the church and Pastor Phyllis & I will be there to impose the ashes outside.
Lent. Devotion and lunches offered each Thursday at 12:15pm
to give a midweek blessing on your journey of spiritual preparation. Lent. Six Sunday’s to travel Jesus’ journey with His disciples. A
message for us. The first Sunday, Feb. 18, begins with Bishop Ken Carter sharing the message. We are grateful for his time of blessing. We will have one 10am combined worship service and a potluck lunch to follow.
Lent. Ends with Holy Week. Please see the schedule in the
Herald. A time for reflection and renewal as we walk with Jesus during His last week on earth.
Easter. We can embrace the fullness of our Savior’s resurrection
only when we take the time, effort, and intentionality to embrace the
forty-day journey.
I look forward to sharing in this journey with you.

BIG CHANGES FOR CURBSIDE!!! The next Curbside Mission Café will be Wednesday, February 7th. And, no, that’s not a typo. We are moving to the first Wednesday for February. You can still pick up your meal to go in the circle drive from 4:00 to 5:30, then from 5:30 to 6:30 you can get you meal to go inside or stay and enjoy great fellowship with friends around a table at the Wednesday Night Buffet! The cost is $7.00. The proceeds benefit our mission projects. Come help us change the world one spaghetti dinner at a time.
For more information about any of the ministries of the music department, please contact Cary Collins ([email protected]) or Chad Stoffel ([email protected]) at 561.687.5411 x17. Church website: www.umcpb.org
The music department’s annual shoe drive is during the season of Lent. How fitting that it begins Ash Wednesday which happens to be on February 14th, Valentine’s Day! Your new and gently worn shoes will be a tangible reminder to those in need that they are loved. We will be collecting shoes from February 14th until April 1st. Last year, over 300 pairs of shoes were collected and given to local organizations for distribution.
Save yer’ soles for Savior Soles!
Mark Your Calendars Tommy and John Thomas Oaks will be returning to UMCPB on March 7th to present their zany production, The Legend of Wiley Jake as part of the show’s 15th anniversary tour. Imagine the epic Bible story of Jacob and Esau set in the Old West. Add some
colorful costumes, some spicy chili, and toe tappin’ tunes and you’ve got The Legend of Wiley Jake! This show is perfect for kids of all ages. The evening will start with a Chili Cook-off for our Wednesday Night Buffet! You’re invited to bring your favorite chili recipe or just come and enjoy a bowl or two! Judges will pronounce the winners in the following categories: Best Veggie Chili, Best Spicy Chili, Most Original Recipe, and Best Overall Chili.

Through the Roof is the name of our ministry for people with special needs. The name comes from the healing in Mark 2:1-12 where the friends lower a man who is paralyzed through a roof to have Jesus heal him. We are all about bringing people who have spe-cial needs to Jesus. Our mission is to extend God’s extravagant love by opening our doors and hearts to individuals with special needs.
The Amigos are a group within the Through the Roof minis-try. The Amigos are a group of adults with special needs who are exploring their relationship with God. The Amigos meet at least twice a month on Sundays from 4:00-6:00pm. During that time, we engage in a praise and worship service designed specifically for adults with intellectual or developmental delays. After the service, we enjoy a dinner together and then an activity. Sometimes we do a service project like make blankets for the children in the hospital or box the food from the food pantry. Sometimes we do a bible study. Sometimes we play games or make an art project. The Amigos are all about building self-esteem, building relationships and knowing that we are God’s children. God has a specific purpose for our Ami-gos. We are learning what that purpose may be.
The Amigos group is a one of a kind group in Palm Beach
County. I am sure if you talk to your neighbors and friends, some-one they know is an adult with special needs. Please take some time to share our mission and purpose.
If they have questions, have them call me (Pastor Phyllis 561-214-0133).
