sons of Sumer are not known, wherepeople do not have the use of paved

roads, where they have no access to thewritten word -- that I, the firstborn son, am a

fashioner of words, a composer of songs, acomposer of words, and that they will recite

my songs as heavenly writings, and thatthey will bow down before my words......

    Searching for Eternal Life

Adapa was a fisherman who gained wisdomfrom Ea, the god of water. The other gods werejealous of his knowledge and called him toheaven. Ea warned him not to drink or eat whilethere. Anu offered him the water of life and thebread of life because he thought that, sinceAdapa already knew too much, he might as wellbe a god. Adapa, however, refused and wentback to Earth to die, thus losing for himself andfor mankind the gift of immortal life.

The Eridu Genesis is a Sumerian text whichexplains the creation of the world, invention ofcities and the flood. After the universe wascreated out of the chaos of the sea, the godsevolved and they in turn created mankind to

farm, herd and worship them. Cities andkingship was created but the gods decided todestroy mankind with a flood. Ziusudra wasinstructed by Enki to build a boat to survive theflood blown up by Enlil. After the flood hebegan to worship Anu and Enlil. Ziusudra wasgranted immortality for his pleasing actions tothe gods during the course of his life.
