Zelzah News December 2018

From the

Potentate

Holiday Greetings Nobles,

This is our last Zelzah News for the year. Make sure you check the Calendar for all of the holiday parties

being sponsored by the Clubs and Units. There are too many for me to list here. Most importantly, our

Kids Christmas Party will be on Sunday, December 2. It will start at 11:00 AM. As usual we will have

hot dogs and ice cream for the kids AND Lance Burton will again provide some of his magic to entertain

our precious children. We will have a real fuzzy faced Santa Claus who will hand out gifts to them as

well. I plan on decorating the Shrine Center on Saturday, December 1st starting at 9:00 AM. Please join

us in setting it up for the Kids. I’ll bring the doughnuts and coffee. See you there.

Remember, our December Stated Meeting is the THIRD Tuesday, December 18. This is when we will

elect our officers for 2019. Also, there is no oasis before the meeting and there is no dinner. We will

have a cold sands immediately after opening and prior to the voting. Make sure you attend and partici-

pate in the election of those who will lead you next year. Show them you will support them as you have

all who preceded them. Check this newsletter for the proper decorum regarding nominating, electioneer-

ing and voting protocol.

We have almost reached the end of my tenure as your Potentate. It has been an experience that I entered

with both nervousness and excitement at the same time. I can honestly say it has been one of the most

rewarding things I have ever done. You, each and every Noble I encountered, were quick to give me

your fraternal support and also to caution me when I may have started down a path that might cause tur-

moil within our ranks. I hope that when my term is completed, together, we can look back and say we

moved in the right direction.

I hope you enjoyed our dinner cruise on Lake Mead. Many thanks to Noble Alex Adams for his help in

coordinating it with the vendor. And most importantly, it could not have come together without the per-

severance and unwavering help of Mary and Elizabeth in the office. There were many Nobles, Ladies

and friends who helped me celebrate my birthday and enjoy good food and great comradery.

Thanks to all of you for a great year. And may next year be even better!

Yours in faith,

Joe “da Pote” Freeman

There were clowns at the last outreach clinic

entertaining “ our kids” and we plan on being

at the next outreach clinic on Dec. 15th.

We had a great time celebrating Veterans day

at the Vets Hospital on Sat. Nov.10, and if you

saw all the kids with balloon animals, you can

be assured that they came from the Zelzah

Shrine Clowns.

We will have been, when you get this, at the

Chief Rabban night celebration… afterall,

Wherlybird is a Zelzah Shrine Clown!

We will be entertaining “ our kids” at Zelzah

kids Christmas party on Dec. 2nd

, and sure en-

joy watching Lance Burton do his magic.Merry

Christmas and Happy Hanukkah to all of you,

and a Happy New Year.

We have at this time planned to be in the

Boulder City and the Henderson

Parades in Dec.2018

Clowns We had our elections at the November clown

meeting, and will announce the

results in the January 2019 Zelzah News.

We meet on the 2nd

Friday of the month, and

invite all of you Nobles to visit us.

We are continually looking for new YOUNG,

Zelzah News December 2018

Just got off the paddle boat from the Pote's

cruise and have a short fuse to get this article

out. First I want to say thanks to all who sup-

ported the Hillbillies during 2018. Now that the

moon is about to rise over the mountain's edge

ending 2018 we look back at some accomplish-

ments.

1. We met our yearly donation goal of

$1000.00 to the Hospital Transportation Fund

bringing our total since the 1979 Zelzah 's Clan

47 beginning to $25,000.

2. We held the 2d Annual Hillbilly and Legion of

Honor Bingo Party which was a big success.

Looking forwarded to the 3rd Annual party next

year in 2019.

3. Assisted Ballut Abyad Shriners Clan 63 at

WSA, Golden Nugget Casino with their Guy

and Gal Hillbilly Degree. We acquired --- 6 dual

members to Clan 47 representing Ballut Abyad,

Kora and Zuhrau Shrines.

4. We thank our 2018 Zelzah's Cuzzins Alex

Adams, Jim Grubbs his lady Leilani; Recorder

Alan Butterfield, his lady Linda ; Frank Callom

(WSA)and lady Laraine(WSA) for climbing dem

hills and honoring the cob. In addition, we

thank Alvida Lane for the use of her Sunrise

Mountain cabin for the "Early Summer Hillbilly

Shin-Dig", where we honored in memory, "Cuz

Hank Koppen".

With the new year approaching we find a

special date on the horizon. August 22,

2019. This date will mark the 40th Anniver-

sary of Zelzah's Hillbilly Clan 47. Yes, there

will be a party and I'm seeking ideas for a

venue. Give me a call.

Although not a Hillbilly function, in support of

our Vets, we recognize the following Hillbillies

who flipped a mean burger and turned a mad

dog at the Veterans Day Car Show & BBQ held

at the VA Medical Center: Ill Sir "Cuz" Joe

Freeman, Ill Sir "Cuz"Bob Norton pp, "Cuz"

Bruce Nelson, Assistant Rabban; "Cuz" Dwain

Rittenhouse, High Priest & Prophet; Cuz" Alan

Wise, Oriental Guide and myself.

We also thank "Cuz" Ed Pierce and Nobel Mar-

shal Jack Richardson for assisting. It was esti-

mated 2000 Vets and families were served.

If you're not one, become a Hillbilly and enjoy

the fun. Check your emails. Gatherings usually

the 2nd Sunday of the even months.

Remember, by our small contribution that one

child who may not walk today, he or she may

walk tomorrow.

Seasons Greetings from your Legion of Honor

A great deal has happened within the Legion since the last newsletter. There was a mid-term Change of Command due to unforeseen circumstances. Vice Commander, Russ Gray, moved up to Com-mander, the Captain of the Guard, Mike Kearns, stepped into the Vice Commander slot, Past Com-mander Ron Krever remains our Finance Officer, and we welcomed back Illustrious Sir, and Past Commander, Bob Norton to the Adjutant position. Commander Gray is also a Lieutenant Commander with the International Association Legions of Honor.

In September, the Legion and the Hillbillies hosted a Bingo party. All in attendance had a wonderful time…especially those that won! It was a success-ful fundraiser for both units. A special thank you to the multi talented Legion and Hillbilly member, Fred Boyd, and his team for coordinating the event.

Illustrious Sir and P.C. Bob Norton and Command-er Russ Gray had the distinct honor to present the colors for the International Board of Governors, Shriners Hospitals For Children at opening of their meeting on October 31

st.

Our parade season is coming to a close with the Christmas Night Parade in Boulder City on Decem-ber 1

st and then the Henderson Parade on Decem-

ber 8th. If you’d like to participate, we’ll be depart-

ing the Shrine at 3pm both afternoons, with line-up at 4:30pm and step-off at 5:30pm.

Lastly, the Legion of Honor Christmas-Hanukah party will be held on December 12

th at Arizona

Charlie’s, on Decatur. You should have received the information via email from the Adjutant, if not please contact Bob Norton at [email protected]. We all had a great time last year, with the gift exchange, good food and much laughter. We’ll be doing it again this year. Remember to bring a gift that you’d like to receive yourself. Bring one gift for each exchange you’d like to receive. We hope to see you there.

Best of the holiday season, to include a healthy and peaceful 2019.

Our First Annual Golf Scramble on October 21st

was very successful for being our first attempt we

did have a lot of fun. The Flivvers made enough

money to start some work on some more cars.

We will be putting on a second Scramble in Octo-

ber 2019.

This photograph was taken by Las Vegas RJ of

Amelia and Lennon at the VA Car Show.

FLIVVERS The Flivvers showed the cars at the VA Hospi-

tal Car Show on November 10, 2018. We did

have a lot of fun just showing the cars and let-

ting kids sit in them and take photographs. We

met with several Shrine Kids of all ages.

During the show we were asked several times

what does the Shrine do for anybody. We

were surprised by the question and we did in-

form them what we do for kids. As Shriners we

need to get out more into the public and talk

more to the people about what we do.

Because of the Christmas party in November,

the Flivvers next meeting will be on January 9,

2019. So have a Merry Christmas and a Hap-

py New Year. If you know a Noble that would

like to join the Flivvers Please invite them to

the Meetings, we need members and Drivers.

Cultural Power

Every Mason has three source

of power: his government,

religion and family.

That government is won, that

religious is shared and that family

is either forced or moral.

In any use of power, issue are

the source of it’s application.

CONCLUSION: There are no

issues in life, it is all about

power. In Masonry it is moral

power….man’s finest.

John Henry

To all Nobles, their Ladies and Guests, we offer our most

sincere appreciation for your support and attendance at the

Aviation Club’s Halloween Costume Party, held Saturday

October 27th at the Zelzah Shrine Center. We sold 74 tick-

ets for our festive costume party. Most everyone who at-

tended, came in costume, many were un-recognizable,

which added to the fun, festivities and entertainment. Cos-

tume judging by Aviation Club Commander George Odell

and the Oriental Guide, Alan Wise was exceptionally dif-

ficult. But all agreed on the final selections for 1st, 2nd, 3rd.

and two runner ups. The evening’s entertainment was pro-

vided by our DJ with an excellent selection of music for

both listening and dancing. The raffle prizes were pre-

pared by Aviation Club Members and totaled 15 excep-

tional gift baskets of bathtub fun and libations. The 50/50

raffle provided additional funds to the Aviation club and

the winner donated his portion back to the club. We raf-

fled off our Grand Door Prize, a booze basket and an ad-

ditional mystery basket.

The Ladies of the Aviation Club provided exquisite Italian

cuisine. The ladies decorated with a unique decor of early

Halloween and cloth linen for the dining tables, accented

with Halloween candy. Our resident witch passed out

popcorn while other ladies sold raffle tickets for the gift

baskets and 50/50 raffle. Nobel Ron Krever, served up a

medley of tantalizing drinks, keeping everyone coming

back to the bar for stimulating libations all evening long.

Once again, our many thanks to the Nobles their Ladies

and Guests for supporting our Aviation Club Halloween

Costume Party.

Respectfully,

George Odell
