GEOTECHNICAL INVESTIGATION (LAND & MARINE)The primary objective, in Civil Engineering, while designing any structure like Dams, Bridges, Weirs, Buildings etc. is to determine the stratigraphy and pertinent physical properties of the soil and rock underlying the site so that a safe and economical foundation may be designed. It is false economy to attempt to save on site investigations as designs based on assumed or inadequate data can lead to necessity of modification in design during construction.

MICROPILING Micropiles of 200mm and 300mm dia are usually drilled by making use of either Percussive Drilling or by Rotary Drilling. However Percussive Drilling is preferred since no core is to be extracted and speed of drilling is nearly 10 times that of rotary. Percussion drilling is usually carried out by Down‐The –Hole‐ Hammers (DTH), by truck mounted percussive rigs. The drilling unit is runs on a 660‐900 cfm air compressor.

Karl Terzaghi writing in 1951, commented on foundation as follows:

Foundations can appropriately be described as a necessary evil. If a building is to be constructed on an outcrop of sound rock, no foundation is required. CAST‐IN‐SITU PILES by HYDRAULIC ROTARY RIGS / CONVENTIONAL CHISEL‐BAILER Adhering to ever improving technology in the Piling field we have developed Small Hydraulic Drilling rigs which are similar to the bigger rigs but can reach sites where large sized rigs cannot enter. Also we are in possession of large sized rigs also for major projects. Diameters achievable are 400mm to 1200mm. We also employ tripod & winches where permissible.

ROCK ANCHORING (PRESTRESSED & PASSIVE)Rock Anchors are proposed to resist the uplift force that might be induced on the foundations due to hydrostatic pressures, wind loads etc or to control the tilting or buckling of piles in case of shoring systems for resisting active and passive earth pressures. They are of two types Prestressed (Cable Anchors) or Passive (Dowel /Rod Anchors)
