racquetballA fun, fast-paced game played on our indoor courts in which theserving player stands on the service line, and on the serve, heor she must bounce the ball, and then hit it toward the wall infront of him or her. The ball must then make it behind the serverto a line known as the short line. If it does not, it is a fault. If itdoes, the ball is in play, and the receiving player, who stands ata line behind the "short line," may hit the ball so that it hits thefront wall. Players can only earn a point on a serve, which the re-ceiving player gains if he or she wins the rally. Points are earnedif the opposing player's ball bounces twice before being hit or ifa player hits a ball that does not reach the front wall. Play to 15points. The YWCA has two racquetball courts that can be re-served up to one week in advance.Rec Free Basic and non members pay guest fee

I feel as an owner of a business that serves our community, itis important to give back to the community that supports me. Ifeel fortunate to be able to support an organization such asthe YWCA, a true asset to our community. Programs that areoffered by the YWCA seem to have a common purpose of en-hancing our physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. Havingresources such as a pool and fitness center, the availability offitness classes, educational seminars, and child care pro-grams improves our quality of life here in Gettysburg. Personally, I currently have my son, Chase, enrolled in theYWCA’s child care program. My husband and I have beenpleased with the level of care and personal attention thatChase receives. He has formed a close bond with all of hiscaretakers, which allows my husband and me to feel morethan comfortable leaving him in their care.I walk through the doors of the YWCA daily with Chase andwitness as a casual observer people of all ages. In the morn-ings, I observe aqua aerobics, individuals heading to and fromyoga classes, organized meetings in the community room, and children at play in the playground. In the evenings theswim team trains in the pool, while many students are head-ing to gymnastics classes, or to lift weights in the fitness cen-ter. Whether your need is a fitness regimen, a massage, ameeting place, or a safe place for your children to play or becared for – the YW provides it. I am happy to support theYWCA so that the facility and these valuable programs areavailable to our community well into the future.

disruptive behavior policy Disruptive behavior occurs if a member or a guest acts in a manner inconsistent with the YWCA mission, fails to abide by therules and regulations of this YWCA or acts in a manner that is harmful, potentially harmful, or a threat to the safety of others. When any of these actions occur, an employee has the right to tell the member/guest to leave the facility with or without a warn-ing. Membership can be revoked without refund. recognitionHayley Vay Poynter, our employee of the quarter has been instrumental in strengthening theYWCA’s relationship with the owners of the Gettysburg Swim and Tennis pool. She has been crucialin developing the new lifeguard staff to the standards of professionalism that is expected from them. The members who received swim lessons from her were so pleased with her skills and profession-alism that all of them requested her for their next round of swim lessons. She is honest, hard work-ing, and accepting of all people and encouraging and helping those who need it, regardless of theircircumstances, background or beliefs. Hayley is also an awesome spin instructor who really caresabout her class and her students. She takes the time to work with new and recurring students tomake sure they are using the right form. She also makes you feel as if your coming to class is doingher a favor. She always says how much she appreciates your attendance and how much she looksforward to class.

My family and I moved here in 2010 when I enrolled inSeminary. I decided to get my lifeguard certification sothat I could work part-time while attending classes. TheYWCA has been a huge asset to our family’s experi-ence here. I can come in and work in the early morningbefore class, and my family can walk here together.Laurensia loves Zumba, and Lawrence does every-thing: basketball, swimming, and racquetball. The com-munity is great too, and I enjoy getting to know theregular members who swim in the morning.
