CELEBRATED 2CHILDREN OCHESTRA

It was on September 28 2008, when Ivy Decker-Jones gave her first lesson in violin to nine children from the Ivordale Orphanage. There were only nine children then, because she was limited by the number of instruments available to them. The violins they used to begin their journey had been donated by some of the students already learning with Ivy, people who also believed in, and supported, Ivy's dream.

By 2009 Ivy had spoken so passionately of her dream, and her desire to bring hope ~ and a future ~ to the lives of the Orphans at Ivordale, that she persuaded Don Robertson, the owner of one of the most prestigious Violin shops in the world, to generously donate 30 violins. These arrived from the US in 2009. We speak of the squeaky wheel getting the oil ~ this persistent voice got the violins!

By March 2009, the nine original players, joined now by a few more, were playing so proficiently that they were able to join Ivy's violinists from the Harare International School's Orchestra to perform in the annual Harare Allied Arts/Eisteddfod Music festival. Not only did they perform ~ they achieved an Honors Grade [90%] awarded by the South African Adjudicator. This was a remarkable achievement ~ after just 6 months!

That was then...

In the beginning...

He is the current Comrades Marathon Champion, and won consecutive races in 2009, 2010 and 2011, and recorded the second fastest time in 2009, 5H23, over 89.17KM. With 5 Top 10 places (Gold) at Comrades, The Ultimate Human race, he is 1 of only 3 people to have won 3 consecutive Comrades Marathons.

Stephen also boasts 4 Gold Medals for 2 Oceans Ultra Marathon, held annually in Cape Town, South Africa and have won many races at 42.2km and 50km.

STEPHEN MUZHINGI3THE MAN, THE LEGEND

Stephen Muzhingi, born in October 1980, is a Zimbabwean national who is now a Professional Athlete, and specializes in Ultra Marathon and Marathon running. Stephen could, in previous times, be seen manning his hair salon in the city of Harare.

Stephen is married to Erina and they have a young son, Methane. (He is the apple of daddy's eye). Stephen lives in Zimbabwe and spends 6 months of the year in Durban and Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, where he completes his training for Comrades each year.

Right now He owns three houses, having bought a house after every Comrades success,” he said. Muzhingi however, said he has now realised his dream of joining the army after the Airforce of Zimbabwe invited him three months ago to join them. I will be a training athlete in the army. Very soon I will be going to collect my force number.”

In June 2012, the Children's Celebration Orchestra of Zimbabwe will travel to Italy, where they will perform their unique blend of music, song and drama in concerts around that country. This has been the Vision of Ivy, together with some of her fellow 'dreamers' and many supporters ~ to give these children the opportunity of a lifetime and afford them the chance to travel abroad! Many people have helped to put these children on the path that they are travelling ~ there is still a way to go…

Their tickets have been generously sponsored, and some of their needs have been taken care of. If anyone here wishes to find out more about the forthcoming tour, and what still needs to be done, then please take this opportunity to find out more about this whilst we have them with us here today.

Who would have realised that that first simple lesson in Music, in September 2008, would be the key to unlocking their potential allowing them to grow into the accomplished performers that they aim to be, and giving them a future? They will take with them to Italy the love and the support of many, and they will return with a valuable lesson learned… Just what one can achieve when one has the opportunity of unlocking one's potential…

And the dream continues...
