Tax Time is Here…

Some time in January the library will receive a limited number of basic tax forms and instructions. They will be available in the foyer as soon as they arrive. The

Reference Staff can also download copies of forms for the price of 10¢ per page (black and white).

Library staff cannot assist you in preparing or fil-ing tax forms, but we will do our best to locate

them for you.

Art Workshop: Let’s Draw Cars and Trucks!

Tuesday, February 19th at 6:30 p.m.

Ages: 5 – 7 years Limit: 25 Length: 60 Minutes

Join us for this fun art class. We'll read a story with many different vehicles, then practice

drawing some of them all together. Young artists will create their own drawings with lots of room

for creative variations. The workshop is provided by Christine Thornton’s Art Studio!

Parents are welcome to stay during the workshop!

Dungeons and Dragons Adventurers Guild

Saturday, February 23th at 10:30 a.m. Grades: 7th – 12th

Limit: 10 Length: 2 Hours A local official from the village of Dusthelm has gone

missing and it is up to a brave band of young adventurers to find out what has happened to him. Join us for an

introductory session of Dungeons and Dragons. Learn how to create your very own character, the basics of gameplay, and join a crew for an adventure. Veteran

players also welcome.

eReadIllinois Update

Starting January 2 eReadIllinois changed the length of time items can be checked out from 21 days to 14

days. Additionally users will now have two days to download their available holds.

As eReadIllinois continues to grow, the

contributing libraries look forward to providing users with more popular content in 2019.

Movie Screening: “Time Saver” Friday, February 15 at 7 p.m.

Local filmmaker Caleb Kurowski will be hosting a FREE screening of his new short film “Time Saver”. “Time Saver”

is Caleb’s 7th short film as writer, director and producer. The film is about a young man David (played by Randy

Bernales) who stumbles upon a watch that has the power to go back in time and tries to save his girlfriend Angela

(played by Molly Denninghoff) from a tragic accident. But before he can do that, he must fix a mistake involving his

friend Gina (played by Kristin Phillips). After the film, there will be a Q&A with the cast and crew. *There will be some strong language that’s not suitable for

children. Viewer discretion is advised.* This is a FREE screening, so please invite your friends

and family. We look forward to seeing you here!

Youth Events Registration begins Monday, January 28th at 9:00 a.m. You can register online or in person, we do not register over the

phone. To register you must have a Prairie Trails Public Library card. Your child ’s library card must be used. An adult can register up to three children on one adult library card IN PERSON only.

Toddler Time Mondays at 10:00 a.m. Ages: 24 months - 35 months with a caregiver Limit: 15 Length: 30 minutes This interactive storytime will feature short stories, puppets, action rhymes and songs! All of these activities will help Toddlers develop language and listening skills as well as social interaction.

Preschool Storytime Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. Ages: 3 - 5 years (not yet in Kindergarten), Children attend independently Limit: 15 Length: 30 minutes In this preschool story time, children will have fun with engaging books, songs, and activities as they build their early literacy skills.

Tiny Tots Storytime Wednesdays at 10:00 a.m. Ages: 6 months - 23 months with caregiver Limit: 15 Length: 30 minutes (20 minutes story time and 10 minutes optional play time) Join us for an interactive lap time, with songs, dancing, toys, and books! Along with bonding with your tiny tot, you will be exposed to early literacy and language skills!

Bilingual Spanish Storytime Thursdays at 10:00 a.m. Ages: 2 - 5 years with a caregiver Limit: 15 Length: 30 minutes Children will have fun with engaging books, songs, and activities that will help build early literacy skills and help them learn Spanish. Niños se divertirán con libros interesantes, canciones, y actividades que les ayudaran a fortalecer sus habilidades de lectura temprana necesarias y aprender el Español.

storytime session will start the week of February 18th.

Stuffed Animal Workshop (Plush Puppy with Hearts - Cupid Puppy)

Tuesday, February 5th at 6:15 p.m.

Ages: 3 -10 years Limit: 20 Length: 45 minutes

Noah’s Ark Animal Workshop is a mobile teddy bear workshop, where kids bring their beary own stuffed animal to life. During the stuffed animal workshop, kids are read a story, hand stuff their own plush

pal, then make a wish on a rainbow star before tucking it safely inside their new friend! The workshop concludes with naming the animal with a birth certificate

and taking it home. Parents recommended to stay with the child, younger children Age 5 and under

must have a parent present in the room.

Chinese New Year Slime Wednesday, February 6th at 3:45 p.m. Grades: 1st - 6th Limit: 20 Length: 45 minutes Come create some red Chinese New Year slime with golden glitter and sequins.

LEGO Zone Saturday, February 9th at 11:00 a.m. Ages: 3 - 12 years Length: 45 minutes No registration is required for this event, but space is limited. Join us for fun and imaginative LEGO-building! We will provide the LEGO’s and you can bring your creative design ideas! All materials must stay at the library, but parents may bring cameras to capture the creations. Any child age 5 or under must have caregiver present in the program room.

Family Board Game Night Tuesday, February 12th at 6:30 p.m. Children of all ages and their families Length: 1 hour No registration is required for this event, but space is limited. Have some family fun playing together with the library’s collection of board games such as Guess Who, Sorry, Trouble, Twister, Jenga, Yahtzee, Clue and more! Any child age 8 and under must have caregiver present in the program room.

Toddler Yoga Wednesday, February 13th at 10:00 a.m. Ages: 18 months – 3 years Limit: 12 Length: 1 hour Toddler Yoga combines unique kid-friendly yoga poses with songs, stories, and games to create an enriching parent/child activity. Each class is personalized around this age’s curiosities as they learn yoga through social interaction, repetition, and play. Children will also learn how to relieve frustration, improve motor skills, and increase attention span by actively following directions. Help your child build the foundation for a healthy and fit lifestyle while having fun! No yoga experience is required. In Toddler Yoga class, one sibling is welcome to come to class too!

Our seminar will focus on practical and easy to learn self-defense techniques that can be used to protect oneself from standing or ground positions. Everyone welcome, techniques can be tailored to fit the individual, anyone can defend themselves! Jeff Waldrom, owner of the Academy of Self Defense and Fitness and with 25 years’ experience in Martial Arts will be conducting the seminar

Create Your Own Picture Book Wednesday, February 20th at 3:45 p.m. Grades: 2nd - 5th Limit: 25 Length: 45 Minutes Children will write and illustrate their very own picture books that they can take home with them once finished.

Read to Rover Tuesday, February 26th at 7:00 p.m. Grade: K - 6th Length: 1 hour Limit: 12 children (10 minute time slots) Improve your reading skills and make a new friend by reading aloud to a therapy dog. The dogs and handlers are from Rainbow Animal Assisted Therapy. Children in grades K-6 can come and practice reading aloud to a licensed therapy dog and build the confidence needed to be successful readers.

This program is for children who already know how to read. Please sign up in person at the Youth Services desk for a 10 minute time slot.

Brain Health Workshop Tuesday, February 5th at 7:00 pm Registration is required. No PTPLD card necessary. Welcome Karen Graham from Rush University Medical Center’s Alzheimer’s Disease Center to the library for an informative presentation about Brain Health and Alzheimer’s.

Military Genealogy From the American Revolution to Korea Thursday, February 7th at 6:30 pm Registration is required. No PTPLD card necessary. Tina Beaird will explain the significance behind using original records for tracing your ancestor's military service. Records from the American Revolution to WWII will be discussed as well as sources for modern records. Learn what types of documents are available within federal, state and local archives.

Seeking Spiceland Tuesday, February 12th at 7:00 pm Registration is required. No PTPLD card necessary. Throughout most of the history of civilization, people have been seeking ways to get to southern India, because a surprisingly large percentage of the world’s most flavorful spices come from a relatively small area at the tip of the subcontinent. The pursuit of these spices has had a tremendous impact on world events. However, today, tourists largely ignore the region that was for more than 4,000 years the destination of merchants, armies, dreamers, the Jewish Diaspora, and others. That’s a pity, because southern India is a remarkable destination that is rich in history, stunning beauty, gracious people, wonderful food, and, as one saying tells it, more coconuts than there are stars in the sky. Come learn a bit more about the spice trade, the place of southern India in world events, and the delights to be enjoyed by a traveler today. Presented by Cynthia Clampitt.

David Rudolf’s British Invasion Show Thursday, February 14th at 6:30 am Registration is required. No PTPLD card necessary. Join musician David Rudolf for a show featuring the music of the Beatles, Donovan, the Kinks, Joe Cocker, the Who, and more British bands. Come to the library and enjoy a blast from the past with music from the British Invasion.

Before You Call the Handyman Thursday, February 28th at 7:00 pm Registration is required. No PTPLD card necessary. Dan Findley, professional handyman, and licensed building engineer, discusses several of the most common fixes you can do for yourself with a small home tool kit. Presenting both common home repairs as well as preventative maintenance in a fun and humorous way. Novice homeowners are welcome to attend this light-hearted educational presentation.

Reading Digitally: How to Access eBooks Using Library Resources Tuesday, February 26th at 7pm Discover how to read electronic books and magazines using a web browser or by downloading them to your mobile device! A Prairie Trails Public Library District card is required for this class in order to log in to the applications. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own devices, such as Kindles, tablets, iPads, and/or mobile phones—however, laptops will be provided for participants if necessary.
