Supervised city playgrounds are summer “drop-in sites” where our recreation leaders supervise a wide variety of informal recreational activities, including kickball, whiffle ball, softball, playground games, Uno, checkers and board games. A great place to be with friends and meet new ones!

*Playgrounds may close at various times due to inclement weather or during city-wide special events. Playgrounds are designed for children ages 5-12. Children under the age of 6 must be accompanied by an adult.

Grades K-1(Children who have completed Kindergartenthisyear.)TheSTARprogramisdesignedtogiveK-1students varied experience in the arts and sciences. The program will increase students’ self esteem and enhance necessary skills in all learning situations such as concentration, focus, cooperation, team building and thinking- all while having fun!

Grades 2-4Students wi l l develop key skills such as estimating and sequencing, refine problem solving and thinking skills in the following courses: Cooking and Reading, Puppets, Robotics/

Math, Swimming, Art, and Poetry. There will also be swimming at least once a week where they will be learning water safety and swimming techniques.

Grades 5-12The STAR program will provide students with an in-depth look at two activities of their choice. Students will select two activities from the following: Walk the Runway, Puppets, Robotics, Synchronized Swimming, Art, Newspaper, Dance, Planetarium and Acting.

The Olean Area Youth Court is a highly successful delinquency intervention/p r e v e n t i o n p r o g r a m servicing first time offenders between the ages of 7 and 15 years old.

The Youth Court members are high school students f rom Olean, Al legany-Limestone, Portville andHinsdale. Students are required to complete a

structured training program and successfully pass a final law exam. They serve as the judge, side judge, facts attorney and law guardian.

Youth Court is in session two Monday evenings each month. New Member training is offered during the summer. For more information contact Paula Keenan,Coordinatorat376-5645.
