It’s the time of year when our mountains turn lovely shades of amber, rust and gold and we begin to feel a nip in the air. Autumn! It’s a fun and festive time. Fall is a great time to travel, comfortable weather and fewer crowds.
We all know what follows fall…colder temperatures and the holidays. AAA is busy planning a special event for you, our valued Solo Travelers Club member. I hope you can join me and your fellow club members for our annual holiday luncheon on Thursday, November 9. We will be hosting the event at the Holiday Inn Harrisburg East at 11:30am. There will be socializing, entertainment, good food, games and prizes! We listened to our member’s feedback and have lowered the price from last year. We are excited to offer you a significant savings. Basic members pay $36.95 and Rewards members pay $29.95, but only if you reserve your space before October 15. After October 15 the prices go up $5.00 and no reservations can be accepted after October 31. Space is limited so call now to reserve your seat. Payment is due at time of reservation. We will be kicking off the holiday season with a bang, don’t miss out on the fun.
Then in order to say a proper goodbye to 2017 we have our 2nd annual New Year’s Eve trip, Winterfest in Ocean City, MD December 30 to January 1. Details can be found inside or at AAA.com/solo. We need a minimum of 20 members to operate the trip so don’t delay, get your reservation in now. Rewards members don’t let your travel certificates go to waste. We’ll have a festive time ringing in 2018 and you should be a part of it.

Orecchiette with Mixed Greens and Goat Cheese
INGREDIENTS:• 1 cup dried orecchiette pasta • 2 cups Mediterranean-style mixed salad greens • 2 tablespoons sun-dried tomatoes (packed in olive oil), chopped • 1 tablespoon goat cheese, crumbled • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan, plus more for garnish• Pinch of salt • Pinch of freshly ground black pepper
DIRECTIONS:
1. Bring a medium pot of salted water to a boil over high heat.
2. Add the pasta and cook until tender but still firm to the bite, stirring occasionally, about 8 to 10 minutes.
3. Drain pasta, reserving 1/2 cup of the water.
4. In medium bowl, mix the salad greens with the sun-dried tomatoes, goat cheese, and Parmesan.
5. Top with warm pasta and 1/2 cup of the reserved pasta water. Toss to combine and wilt the greens.
6. Season with a pinch each of salt and pepper, or to taste. Garnish with additional Parmesan, if desired, and serve.
