...Your.Daily.Fix.................Casino & Poker Fun Night by Paul MacNeil Shaunavon’s Perk Up our Parks Committee will be hosting a special fundraising event at the Crescent Point Wickenheiser Centre tonight (Friday, May 10). The committee, which was estab-lished in 2010 to help make the local facilities more accessible and pleasing for all members of the community, has organized a Casino & Poker Fun Night in an effort to raise funds for a new bandstand at Memorial Park. The evening celebration will fea-
tured a hamburger happy hour (start-ing at 5:30 p.m.), bingo (starting at 6:30 p.m.) and a Texas Hold’em Poker Tour-nament (starting at 7:30 p.m.). A high roller auction has also been scheduled. Among the items up for auction will be a trip to Las Vegas, tickets to the upcoming Rumble in the Cage 47, and a limo ride to the Living Sky Casino with Southwest Limo Ser-vices, and one night in a Jacuzzi suite at the Medicine Hat Lodge with $60 in casino money and supper at the “M Grill”. “It should be a great night,” said

Kyle Bennett of the Perk Up Our Parks Committee. “We were looking for a fundraiser that was a little out of the ordinary, but something that could be a lot of fun for people as well.” The event will also include raffles, a 50/50 draw and other activities. Proceeds from the Casino & Poker Fun Night will go towards the Memo-rial Park Bandstand project. The committee is hoping to have the bandstand constructed in time for the community’s Centennial celebration. The bandstand will enhance Memo-rial Park and will be ideal for hosting a variety of functions like Sunday in the Park, weddings, social gatherings, jam sessions, reunions, church activities and much more. The Bandstand project is the latest effort spearheaded by the Perk Up Our Parks Committee. The group has also initiated or as-sisted in several other community en-deavours, including the erection of a new play structure at Avondale Park.
The bandstand would be located in an area where the Sunday in the Park stage had traditionally been erected. The Perk Up Our Parks Committee is comprised of members who repre-sent a cross-section of local residents. The committee was created with the main purpose of rejuvenating all parks in town, with fresh ideas and opportu-nities for everyone to enjoy.

FoWL humor. You’re right the joke is older than everyone you know, unless you know someone who’s at least 164 years old. According to, the joke first appeared in the March 1847 edition of Knickerbocker, or New York Monthly Magazine. A little bit of extra digging reveals the full text of the original joke read as follows: There are quips and quillets’ which seem actual conundrums, but yet are none. Of such is this: Why does a chicken cross the street? Do you give it up?’ Well, then: Because it wants to get to the other side!’ Clearly, people of the mid-19th century were far more easily amused than we are today. I think. More chicken-style humor. In addition to the standard answer, To get to the other side, here are many more possible answers to the question Why did the chicken cross the road? Some of the answers are as follows:
~ Because it felt like it.~ Because it needed the exercise.~ Because she couldn’t fly.~ It wanted a change of scenary.~ It was collecting experiences for its next book.~ The light turned green.~ Because his mom was behind him with a list of chores.~ Because he and the cow were going to the mooooo-vie theater.~ It wanted to prove to the armadillo that it could be done.~ To get away from the Colonel.(aka the icon of KFC)~ Because it was the pig’s day off.~ All the other chickens were doing it, and it just wanted to fit in.~ Because the road was there.~ Because he wanted to make everyone wonder why he crossed the road.

gov.ca - Saskatchewan’s angling and hunting licence vendors that are transitioning to the new online automated Hunting, Trapping and Angling Licence (HAL) system will still be able to sell paper licences for this year. “We are taking a decades-old paper system and moving it on-line and there have been a few growing pains this spring,” En-vironment Minister Ken Cheveldayoff said. “In support of the stakeholders who are going through this transition with us and to make sure anglers can hit the water this spring issue free, we will make paper licences available as a back-up, in the event of computer problems or challenges with data entry.” The back-up paper licences will only be available for this year. In 2014, the HAL licensing system will be entirely electronic. Only vendors who are adopting the new electronic system will be issued the paper licences. “Hunting and angling licence vendors play an important role in the partnership for managing Saskatchewan’s fish and wildlife resources and we want to ensure that the best possible system is available to them,” Cheveldayoff said. “By bringing the licens-ing system online, we receive real-time information on how our province’s fishing and hunting resources are being enjoyed which benefits our stakeholders, guests and the Ministry of Environ-ment’s conservation efforts for generations to come.” Individuals can access the automated licensing system to es-tablish an account and be assigned a unique HAL identification number. They will only ever have to register once and then they will be able to purchase all future licences as they become avail-able. Individuals can purchase their licences:• online through their personal computer any time;• through private issuers, Ministry of Environment and select Provincial Park offices; or• by phone at 1-855-848-4773. For this year, spring bear licences must be purchased from a local licence issuer, Ministry of Environment or select Provincial Park offices. All remaining licences will be available online in time for the fall hunting season. Detailed instructions for signing up for a HAL number and how to purchase a licence are available at www.gov.sk.ca/huntin-gandfishing.

A guy runs into the bar and says, “Quick, pour me 5 shots of your best scotch.”
The bartender pours them and the man drinks them as fast as he can. “Wow that’s

A preacher went into his church and he was praying to God. While he was praying, he asked God, “How long is 10 million years to you?” God replied, “One second.” The next day the preacher asked God, “God, how much is 10 million dollars to you?” And God replied, “A penny.” Then finally the next day the preacher asked God, “God, can I have one of your pennies?” And God replied, “Just wait a sec.”

DID YOU KNOW?BuSiNESS-FRiENDLY Saskatchewan has an investment climate that welcomes new business. And business opportunities are here and now for those interested in investing in resource exploration and development. That investment climate includes competitive and stable royalty regimes for both oil and gas and mining, incentives for enhanced oil recovery and for mineral exploration, high-calibre, easily accessible geoscience information and supportive regulatory agencies, including the Ministry of Energy and Resources. The ministry works to achieve sustainable development of Saskatchewan’s diverse energy, mineral and forestry resourc-es. It has both a regulatory and promotional role, with pro-grams and policies that encourage exploration, research and value-added investment in resources and resource projects.
