ARBITER INSTRUCTIONS for USSF OFFICIALS 1 The web address for Arbitor is www.TheArbiter.net. Your log in is your e-

mail address. If you already have an account with Arbitor you should be using the same e-mail address for all assignors. Your initial password is your last name. You will need to accept the terms and conditions for using the site and change your password. Since you now have a new password, you must log out of the site and then log back in with your new password to begin setting up your account. Then follow the steps below.

2 ACCOUNT INFORMATION: Review the information and make any

changes. You will use your USSF ID # when you set up your USSF site. Your Official number is your MHSAA #. I do not need your SSN at this time.

a. Phones. Click the red box with a + if you wish to add a phone. To the left of each phone listed is a green pencil (used to edit) or a red trash can (to delete). Click on either of these as needed. The column Public indicates that all users will have access to that phone number to contact you. If you do not indicate public only the assignors will have access to your phone number. Once you have made any change to any part of a phone number you need to click the green “check mark” to accept the change. The Red up and down area is used to indicate the best place to contact you with the best at the top and worst at the bottom. Use the arrows to move the number around.

b. Misc: Not used at this time c. Picture: Use the tab to import your picture. d. Password: You can change your password to what ever you would like

as often as you would like.

3 PREFERENCES: The first thing to do is change the date range to 3/22/2007 thru 6/9/2007 to coincide with the high school regular season, District, and Regional matches. Other options are there also.

4 BLOCKS: This area has five different areas where each official can block out

certain items. a. CALENDAR:

1. In the top left corner you will find all of the groups that you have joined. If you plan to use the same calendar for each group leave those all checked. If your availability is different you will need to complete your availability calendar for each group individually by checking one at a time and following the steps below.

2. Under “Action” in the left hand column you can select the type of block you want to do. Then click on the date you want to block. Another option is to fill in the date range in the right corner. Then check the days of the week that match the block you want to achieve. Example is if you can not work on Tuesday and Wednesday this season then put in the beginning date and end date

and check Tuesday & Wednesday and then apply. All Tuesdays and Wednesday are now blocked. If you want to unblock a date click clear blocks and go thru the same process that you used to block a date.

3. If you select “block part of a day” then you need to indicate what time of the day you do NOT want to be assigned a match. If you can’t be at any field before 6pm. then block yourself out until 6pm. Click on the date and you will see it turn pink indicating that you have restrictions that day.

4. Reports: Click on printer to print a report of your blocked dates & times.

b. TEAMS: Click on “Teams”. This area is used when you should not be assigned matches when a particular team is involved. This is typically used when you have a conflict with a school such as being a student or parent of a player at a particular school. Go to the right and click “show all”. From the drop down list click the schools that you do not want to be assigned to. Next indicate home or away and click save. Disregard schools outside my assigning area unless you have a conflict with one and then only indicate the away team. Remember to check JV & Varsity. You are limited to 3 JV and 3 Varsity teams.

c. SITES: If there is a particular site (field) where you are not willing to be assigned matches you can block that site in this area. Some officials are willing to referee the school but not willing to be assigned to a particular field because of the condition of that field. This is also used to eliminate sites outside your travel limit. You are allowed to block up to 5 sites maximum.

d. POSTAL CODES: Click on the red + and fill in the postal codes where you do not want to be assigned, then click the green checkmark. Limit is 3 postal codes. Again used to limit schools you do not want to be assigned to.

e. PARTNERS: Click on the show all and you can select up to two fellow referees that you are unwilling to work matches with. Special Note: If you block another official and they are already assigned to a match you will not be eligible to be assigned that match. If you are assigned first they will not be assigned to work with you.

f. TRAVEL LIMITS: This area is used to set miles you are willing to travel each day of the week and to indicate what postal code you will be coming from. Monday thru Friday you can input your work zip code and weekends your home zip code. On weekends you may be willing to travel further for a game.

g. SUMMARY: You can review and print all the restrictions you have entered that the system will use in assigning you games. Just remember that if you indicate too many blocks you may not be offered very many games. You have several ways to block matches so pick one or two that work best for you. Do not go thru and use them all. In addition each AD has the option of blocking 2 officials from being

assigned matches that their schools are involved with. It is possible that you may not be assigned any games at all if your schedule has too many blocked dates, you select too many block options, and several ADs do not want to employ you. If I find providing all the blocking options create a problem in getting games assigned I will have to delete some of these options.

5 ATTACH: This is the area where you can “attach” yourself to a particular

schools games so that you are not assigned to a game during that particular match time. You will need to select the level and team from the drop down lists. You then need to check the matches that you want to be attached to under the red “Attach” column. Then click submit. Remember you will need to do this for all “levels”. Click Submit NOT exit. This feature is used when you have a child that is playing on the team and you want to watch their games or maybe you work for the school during theses matches.

6 SCHEDULES: Clicking on this opens the area where all your assignments

will appear from all assignors using Arbitor. You can modify this list by checking or un-checking the “group #”. Right now this area will be blank until you are actually assigned games. This is where you will go to accept or decline games when you receive game notifications.

7 MASTER SCHEDULE: This is a schedule of all the games that I assign.

You can use the drop down boxes to find the games you are interested in. a. The first drop down box lets you indicate what level of match you are

looking for. b. You can look to see what is going on by date. c. “Site” is where the match is being held. d. “Home or Away teams” are used to find a particular team. Note; this

list will not show some games where the home or away team is not known yet. These games have been entered as TBA.

8 SELF ASSIGN: This is the area that you will go to if you are interested in

picking up additional games. You will have the ability to assign yourself up to 2 matches each day. Games will be added as they are turned back and the assignor has time so frequently checking this is advised if you are looking to pick up additional matches.

9 FORMS: Not functional at this time

10 PAYROLE/INVOICES: This is where you will find invoices when you are

assessed a reassigning fee for an accepted match that you turn back.(see below)

11 OFFICIALS & CONTACTS: Once everyone has updated their information

you can click on their name and all their contact information appears.

a. Click on their name and all their contact info will appear.(officials only)

b. Click on their e-mail address and it will open an e-mail to that person. c. Click on their address and you will see where the official will be

coming from so you may be able to carpool or get a map to where the school is located. Note: the schools location may not be the same as the site location where the game is being played.

d. There is a drop down list of all their phone numbers. Note if your phone numbers do not appear it is because you did not mark them as Public”.

e. You can print a complete roster by clicking the printer.

12 SITES/CONTACTS: You will find maps to each location if you click on the

address. If you click on the number under the contact column you will get the contact information for that particular site. Some schools have elected to have more than one contact person. Sub sites are used when a school uses more than one field for games such as a practice field during tournaments and/or JV matches.

13 MY REFEREE: This is a great source of information.

14 PASSWORD: Use this area to change your password if needed.

THE LAST THING TO DO IS CHECK THE READY BOX. This lets me know you are ready to be assigned matches. IF YOU DO NOT CHECK THIS BOX THE SYSTEM WILL ASSUME YOU ARE NOT READY TO BE ASSIGNED MATCHES AND YOU WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED FOR ANY GAMES.

SPECIAL NOTICE: TO TURN BACK A MATCH THAT YOU HAVE ALREADY ACCEPTED YOU MUST EITHER CALL ME OR SEND ME AN E-MAIL SO I CAN FIND YOU A REPLACEMENT. At this time, remember there is a $0.00 reassigning fee for all accepted games turned back. (One fee if doing jv & varsity). You will be able to find your invoice for reassignment fees (described in #8 above) under Payroll invoices. If you have additional questions you can go to the top of the page and click on support. An info box will appear. If you click on “Help Document” you will find the instructions provided by Arbitor. If you still have a problem contact me and I will see if I can help. USSF Assignor, Mr. Loren Heun
