OUR HISTORY

Sixty years of history, two plants in Emilia Romagna and Veneto, over 230 employees and an overall turnover of 78 million euros. These are the statistics of Coind, major industrial group founded in 1961 in Castel Maggiore in the province of Bologna, which has today become an important player on an international scale.We are a leading producer of private label coffee, roasting 7,000 tonnes every year. This enables us to serve 60% of the private label segment in Italy and operate in over 60 countries worldwide.

SUSTAINABILITYThe Coind sustainability plan includes all the initiatives we are pursuing in the corporate social responsibility field.

• Sustainability Plan - statement of intentThe 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is a plan of action for people, the planet and prosperity signed in September 2015 by the governments of the 193 members of the United Nations. We have developed our own Sustainability Plan based on these goals, to pursue over the next few years.

• Code of EthicsThe Code of Ethics has always been an intrinsic part of the spirit of cooperation within the company, and all our employees comply with it.

• Fair conditions for the procurement of green coffeeWe were one of the first roasting houses in Europe to work with Fairtrade, and have been doing so since 1996. We are an important partner of UTZ. We have ongoing projects with suppliers in Brazil, Nicaragua and Vietnam, which comply with the SA8000 standard.

• ProductsTo date we have sold 70 million compostable capsules throughout

Italy, with our proprietary system. We currently produce Nespresso* compatible capsules that are suitable for industrial composting and are now working on home composting solutions.

• PackagingWe can use reels of compostable packaging material to pack coffee beans and ground coffee. The cardboard we use for our boxes is FSC certified.

• Carbon NeutralityWe are working with the Carbon Neutral Group under the “Zero Carbon” certification and we can offer carbon neutral certified coffee to our customers.

• Ethical supply and production chainIn 2019, we successfully passed the SMETA 2 pillar audit (a check on the compliance of our working conditions, health and safety with the criteria of the Sedex Member Ethical Trade Audit). In 2020. we passed the SMETA 4 pillar audit, which also includes checks on the working environment and business practices..
