Chinese consumers shop online According to consultancy firm PwC, 15% of China’s 1.4 billion people population shops online every day and 60% every week, compared to the global average of 21% weekly. The average Chinese internet user spends about 25 hours per week online. The global average is 16 hours per month! Of these 25 hours, 5 hours are dedicated to visiting online shopping marketplaces.

China’s e-commerce transaction value was about  US$1.95 trillion in 2014. China’s B2C e-commerce volume grew with 35% to US$426 billion in 2014 from US$316 billion in 2013.

Currently around 40% of this volume is represented by mobile shopping on both C2C and B2C marketplaces. Mobile shopping is expected to represent nearly 60% of total in 2017.

WeChat   is   the   most   common   used   social   media   tool   in   China.   It   is   a   combination   of   WhatsApp   and  Facebook  and  offers  online  payment  options  as  well.      

Started  by  selling  household  electric  appliances  but  has  widened  their  product  range.  They  are  the  first  marketplace  where  consumers  can  exchange  old  electric  appliances  with  newly  bought  one.  JD  has  their  own  logisTcs  department  and  instead  of  using  parcel  express  they  offer  a  pick  up  service  when  consumers  want  to  return  their  goods.        Sells  household  electric  appliances  for  lower  prices.        Tmall  was  the  largest  player   in  2014,  controlling  more  than  half  of  the  market,  followed  by  JD.com.  It   is  widely   expected   that   B2C   E-­‐Commerce   in   China   will   maintain   double-­‐digit   growth   rates   for   the   next  several  years.
