Homiez with KNX – At the heart of your smart home

KNX is an international standard for home and building control. It was launched more than 25 years ago.

In 2016, the number of KNX-manufacturers worldwide increased from 300 to more than 400.In Germany and China, KNX is the leading home automation protocol.

A KNX Partner is a certified KNX professional, who has completed the KNX technology training and passed the final exam. KNX Association maintains a directory of all KNX Partners. Particularly in Germany, the number of KNX Partners has grown rapidly. In 2016, the number of KNX Partners increased by 4,000 to a total of more than 18,000.

KNX is a flexible standard that allows the addition of home features and services also after the installation. KNX allows the different automation systems to be integrated and controlled from one interface. This is where Homiez comes in.

Smart Grid refers to the introduction of a smart, internet-style technology to the electrical grid. Smart Grid enables the transition from centralised electricity production and consumption control to a decentralised system. Smart Grid works interactively, taking care of the balance between electricity production and consumption.

In order for the creation of a Smart Grid to be possible, we need smart hybrid energy properties – smart homes whose various systems are controlled via building automation. The control panel is the heart of a smart home. The panel is connected to cloud services and makes it possible to integrate the cloud services and the property’s IoT devices into the property itself – and it also handles the property’s energy optimisation.

The standardised KNX bus system connects the home’s devices and systems, such as heating and lighting, into a single network that is flexible and more affordable than a regular solution featuring numerous different installations and properties.

Compared to other systems on the market, the Homiez Ecosystem also allows for significantly more extensive energy optimisation throughout the entire property. For example, a small home heated with electricity using the system can save up to 60% in heating costs and 30% in overall electricity consumption costs (Motiva, Elvari project, 2015). Savings are created even as early on as in the installation phase. Homiez is a significantly cheaper option when compared to its competitors.
