Cardio Groove, Presented by Mary Cone: Combines simple dance moves with light weights to strengthen your body and get your heart pumping. Chisel Groove, Presented by Mary Cone: A workout using resistance bands to target the body’s common problem areas. Chronic Disease Management: The Big 3 of Diabetes, Hypertension and High Cholesterol, Presented by Independent Health Pharmacists: Review what a chronic disease is, how it can impact your life and ways to manage and treat these conditions through lifestyle changes and medication adherence. Learn the importance of statin medications and facts about the “numbers” members need to know in controlling these conditions. Cognitive Brain Fitness, Presented by Dr. Sal Gruttadauria, Greater Buffalo Centers for Dizziness & Balance: Exercising the mind to keep it active is as important as maintaining physical fitness and strength as we grow older. Mental health is often a major part of being able to live independently, and to ensure the brain works as best as it can, the mind needs to be challenged every day. This seminar will provide an overview of “mind games” designed to keep your brain active and healthy. Cognitive Health Screenings: The American Academy of Neurology recommends annual cognitive screenings for everyone age 65 or older. A speech/language pathologist will provide 15-minute cognitive screenings related to memory and critical thinking. Colorectal Cancer Seminar, Presented by Jason Coleman, American Cancer Society: Learn about risk factors for colorectal cancer and what you can do to help lower your risk. Know the signs and symptoms and find out how colorectal cancer is screened, diagnosed and staged. Computer Basics, Presented by Nancy Wise: Learn the basics of working on a desktop computer, including email, Internet searches, Word processing and more. Decreasing Risk of Falls, Presented by Dr. Susan Daoust, UBMD Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine: Learn about safety in your home, the little things to look out for and small changes you can make to reduce your risk of falls and keep yourself strong. Diabetes & Chronic Conditions, Presented by Dr. Jennifer Walsh, Independent Health Associate Medical Director: A number of chronic illnesses commonly occur with and because of diabetes, including hypertension, obesity, chronic kidney disease and cardiovascular disease. Learn how these comorbid conditions are monitored and treated.

Diabetic Nutrition, Presented by Dr. Jennifer Walsh, Independent Health Associate Medical Director: Type 2 diabetes involves high blood glucose and abnormally-high levels of insulin (due to insulin resistance). Learn how nutrition can help you control both blood sugar and blood insulin levels. Dizziness and Balance, Presented by Dr. Sal Gruttadauria, Greater Buffalo Centers for Dizziness & Balance: Dizziness is the #1 complaint for the elderly and the #3 issue for patients of any age. Dizziness and balance problems affect your quality of life and falls or a fear of falling can curtail independence. This seminar concentrates on the causes of issues, how we diagnose them and ways we can effectively treat them (sometimes without additional medication). Dizziness and Balance Screenings, Dizziness is the most common complaint for those age 70 or older, and balance-related falls are responsible for over 300,000 hip fractures in adults over age 65. A vestibular specialist will provide 15-minute screenings for potential dizziness and balance issues. Eating for Heart Health, Presented by Janice Nowak, Erie County Senior Services: A nutrition seminar focused on the foods we should eat to keep our hearts healthy. Forever Fit, Presented by Lauren Smith, Independent Health Corporate Wellness Specialist: Stay as young as you feel with Forever Fit! Improve your functional strength, aerobic endurance and balance. Through a combination of upper body and lower body exercises your core stability is enhanced. Fun with Friends: Enjoy social time with coffee, games and good conversation. Golden Hearts, Presented by Sheila Goldberg, Independent Health Corporate Wellness Specialist: A safe, effective exercise program for seniors of all activity levels to help with physiological changes that occur with aging. Gut Health, Presented by Independent Health Pharmacists: Learn about colon cancer, including prevention, and screening, and other common issues such as gas, heart burn, constipation, diarrhea and appropriate treatments. Health Hub Tour: Take a tour of the Health Hub and learn about all the exciting activities we’re bringing to our members throughout the year. Hearing Loss and Hearing Aids, Presented by Dr. Sal Gruttadauria, Greater Buffalo Centers for Dizziness & Balance: As we age, our hearing ages. Do you raise the TV volume, have difficulty with background noise or have to ask others to repeat? This seminar focuses on diagnosing hearing problems and the various types of hearing aids. Did you know hearing aids can also detect falls, monitor cognitive activity, monitor your physical exercise and translate foreign languages? Sort through the facts and learn about rechargeable hearing aids and hearing aids you do not have to remove daily.

Learn how your inner ear affects your balance, along with exercises and activities to improve your strength. Learn to Use an iPad: Get familiar with how to use an iPad® tablet. You’ll also learn how to access and use the tools and resources available through our member portal. PLUS – the opportunity to take your Health Assessment to get your $10 reward!
