RECYCLINGClean recyclables go in your blue recycling cart.

Cardboard Remove packing and flatten

Plastic bags

contaminate

other recyclables.

Bag plastic bags

and take them to

a grocery store

for recycling.

Even better, use

reusable bags.

Milk, juice & pop bottles, yogurt, dairy & margarine tubs, shampoo & conditioner

bottles, bathroom & kitchen cleaner bottles, detergent & fabric softener bottles,

pill bottles

Aluminum & Tin Cans Empty and rinse out food residue, labels OK

Scrap MetalSmall non-working metal appliances, pots, tools, etc.

Limit 2 ft. x 2 ft. x 2 ft., 35 lbs; no wood, plastic, or

rubber attachments; no sharp metal

Keep recycling loose. Empty clean recyclables out of bags and boxes into the cart so

that they can be easily sorted. Put all recycling in blue recycling cart. Use bins only for overflow. Blue recycling carts are emptied every other week. (See enclosed calendar.)

If you often have extra recyclables, order a larger cart for free: 800.592.9995

please place it in can and

pinch in the sides so the

lid will not fall out.

Where does it go? Recyclable materials are taken

to Waste Management’s Cascade Recycling Center

in Woodinville where it is sorted by a combination

of machines and people. Watch a video at

thinkgreen.com/video-recycling-single-stream.

Collection Guidelines

Reducing waste is even better than recycling! Before you buy, use or discard an item, ask yourself:

REDUCE: Can I buy this with less packaging?

REUSE: Can I or someone else use this again?

RECYCLE: Can I recycle this after I use it?

BUY RECYCLED: Can I get this item with recycled content?

Have You ‘Heard’ About Our New Trucks?Waste Management is going even greener – watch

for cleaner and quieter collection trucks coming soon.

These new trucks run on clean natural gas so they are

better for the environment and quieter, too. Customers

tell us we’re so quiet they no longer even hear trucks on

collection days. So remember, please have all carts out

for collection by 7AM on your scheduled service day.

Win $1,000 for recycling right!Sign up by April 6, 2012, to enter the Recycle

Palooza Contest. Fifty randomly selected Federal Way

residents will have their home recycling carts judged.

Carts with correct recyclable items will be eligible to

win one of over 20 great prizes – including $1,000!

Mark your calendar for April 28 for the Family Green

Fest! In addition to the exciting Recycle Palooza Contest, there will be giveaways, music, face

painting, games, 15 informational booths and

even a new recycling truck for the kids to explore!

Your everyday actions and decisions have a direct effect

on the amount of waste generated in King County.

Measure your impact by using King County’s EcoConsumer

Waste Calculator at www.kcecoconsumer.com.

There will be less

packaging and it is

often less expensive.
