Brothers,
It’s that time of year. Santa is watching and he knows if you've been naughty or nice so you better watch out. I want to thank all my Brothers for their hard work during my first 6 months as the Grand Knight for our Council. Without your help and guidance we would not be making the progress we have been making. There have been a lot of great ideas that have come out of the Officers meetings and will be talked about at upcoming meetings. We are moving right along with our Christmas Tree sales and Jim is doing a great job with that and all the help that is being given to him. I believe that this will be banner year for our tree sales. We had our Knights Social and it was a lot of fun and a good time was had by all. Thanks to everyone who attended and brought some great food dishes and desert dishes as well. We now move onto our Breakfast with Santa on December 17th so Santa needs some elves to help out in the kitchen with cooking and help in setting up for the kids.
Before you know it we will start the new Year 2017 and I am looking forward to it being a wonderful year. I know that we have new members now and they are stepping up to the plate to help when and where they can. We can always use more new members so if you know of someone you feel is worthy to join us please get them to do so. We have to start planning our events for next year because time and tide wait for no man. The clock is ticking. If you have an idea for something that can help the Council please don't be shy let us know and we can discuss it. There are no bad ideas only those that don’t get brought up. I want to wish all of you and your loved ones a very Safe Happy and Blessed Holiday Season. As Always Stay Safe Stay Proud.

A Message from Fr. Tom
power and might but of loving service. We sometimes forget that, even in the church, that giving loving service is our only reason for being.
However he took a most unusual approach to this task. Instead of laying hands on them or speaking a word of healing to them, he said to them “Go show yourselves to the priests.” Jesus was requiring an act of faith out of them. Luke tells us as they were making that journey their skin began to show signs of healing. They were delirious with joy and yet only one went back to thank Jesus. “Were not all ten cleansed, where are the other nine?” No matter how stunning your physical appearance, how impressive your intellectual credentials, no matter how complete your material success, you are still morally and spiritually inadequate if you have not learned to say “thank you” to the one who is the source of all you have and all you are.
Everyone may feel gratitude but to go to the trouble of expressing that gratitude is a sign of character. It says something about the kind of person you are. Saying “thank you” is also a statement of grace. We don’t like to acknowledge our dependence on anybody – even God. We
My Dear Friends and Fellow Knights,
“Grazie, Gratias, Thank you!”
November is gratitude month. Wouldn’t you agree with me that this expression distinguishes us from the rest of the animal kingdom? And yet there is something within the spirit of many people that resists the simple act of saying “thank you.”
Consider for a moment this event in the life of Jesus: He and His disciples were entering a village when they encountered ten lepers. Somehow when they saw Him they knew He would help them. Maybe it was the expression of love on His face. They cried out, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.” How could He deny their request? That was why He had come. His kingdom was not one of power
Fr. Tom
Jesus, born of Mary, relies on you and me to achieve His work in today’s society. In a sense, He expects you and me to be His tongue, His sight, His hearing, His hands and feet. This is a high calling, the noble enterprise conferred on us by our baptismal covenant. You and I are called to be on intimate terms with Jesus, to come to know His mind and heart – the real Jesus! This is a challenge the Lord expects us to meet. This Christmas, at the manger, let us commit ourselves anew to this challenge in a world in dire need of the culture of Jesus.
Jesus was not what people expected. Scripture makes that abundantly clear. His ministry was unconventional by the standards of the time. He became popular precisely because He charted His own course and played up to no one. He avoided the ploy of the unprincipled who, like chameleons, changed whenever it suited their ambitions. Jesus eschewed notoriety and focused on ministry. He refused to indulge in worn and disingenuous pious platitudes to secure a comfortable place among the Jewish priestly aristocracy. People were startled to hear Him call for a higher and more difficult moral code: “Love your enemies,” “Turn the other cheek,” “Blessed are the poor,” “The greatest among you must serve the needs of all.” Some then and today would say, “Give me a break,” “He’s got to be kidding,” “Get with it Jesus!” No, Jesus does not fit the parameters set by many Christians today. But there is one thing I know I can say: Jesus cares dearly about people, about you and me. Everything He did was designed to bring you and me home to God. May our tongues, our ears and eyes, our hands and feet work tirelessly to reveal the stunning reality of God’s love to people so that they can find their way home to God A Blessed and Loving Christmas to All!

COOKS FOR ST. MARTHA
Cooks for St. Martha (The patron saint of cooks) are needed. Though I have a group of cooks already, I could really use more so as not to continue calling the same people and wearing out their good nature. A handful of them are Knights and their wives, however, they are only a handful. We like to help people just coming out of the hospital or who are going through treatment (usually cancer). We bring meals for the first week home for a new mother and father or it could also be someone who is recovering from surgery. There might be a family with someone in Hospice. These meals are meant to be temporary until these folks are on their feet again. A fresh meal will be cooked for the whole family or a single person if they live alone. The meals are delivered to their home ready to eat. As I tell everyone in my message in our Sunday bulletin, "We are many and wish only to serve." If after prayerful thought and discussion you decide you and your wife would like to be part of Saint Martha's Cooks, please call me, Gloria Carlon at (732) 961-7535 to give me your name and phone number.
This holiday season help give the best gift of all. The gift of love and help to those who need it.

$2,500.00 per year. The Knights have a program to promote monetary assistance to Seminarians
called RSVP. For each $500.00 donated to a Seminarian, State and Supreme will reimburse

also encourages Councils to become better acquainted with the Seminarian thru remembering his

Transcript of Deacon Christian’s homily at our Deceased Brothers Mass on November 22nd.
Tonight we remember some very special friends.
We did not come to know these men in the usual ways friendships are forged. We didn't all work at the same job, we weren't classmates trying to get enough credits to graduate, we didn't wave to each other from afar as we mowed our lawns every weekend, we didn't serve together in the same unit.
We got to know them sitting in a funky trailer behind Glory's on some rainy December day waiting for just one person to buy a Christmas tree.
We got to know them standing chest deep in some forgettable Lakewood creek rescuing stranded rubber ducks while perfectly normal people stood on the banks screaming for theirs to win.
We got to know them cooking frozen sausage patties and tater tots in the church kitchen for a Christmas breakfast. We got to know them over debates on the height limit for St. Patrick's Day leprechauns. These were not the usual friendships because these were not the usual men. They were unusual beca use these friends of ours, whether they knew it or not, whether they liked it or not, heard the Lord's call to work in his vineyard and said yes.
And while they're no longer with us, they are not forgotten.
We say in the funeral liturgy that the "bonds we forge in life are not dissolved in death." We say this because for Christians, death is not the end.
Through Christ's resurrection, death lost. It lost the game, lost its sting, lost its power to doom us to an eternity of nothingness after a life of hard work and struggle. Beca use of God's love and mercy, death's loss was our gain. "By his death and resurrection, Christ 'opened' heaven to us." Our hope is that through their good works here, our deceased brothers have walked through that opened gate. We pray as witnesses on their behalf that they fed the hungry, clothed the naked, welcomed the stranger and visited those imprisoned by illness and loneli ness.
They manned the Christmas tree sale to help child ren suffering from cancer, they cooked for Breakfast with Santa to feed and welcome neighbors, they sat through meeting after meeting and set up and broke down the church time and time again, and spent many hours away from home and with us because the least of their brothers and sisters needed help. Along the way we became friends beca use we shared the same values and goals.
And so tonight we remember our brothers who have gone before us into the peace of God's rest. We remember them as friends and pray that we might see them again one day in our heavenly homeland along with the saints in the presence of our Lord.

Some Thoughts….. From Lecturer Bob Purcell
Last year you may recall we put to the Knights and the parish the hardships of the youth of Uganda and how you can help via the program Change a Life Uganda. That request brought about the sponsorships of a few of Uganda’s underprivileged kids. The nicest “thank you” we could have received was from Asaph Guma, a young lad from Uganda. He lives in a thatched roof in a poor village in Uganda. He has received assistance through “Change A Life” an organization that literally changes lives. The Knights from our council met with Jean Semler and Dave Thelen who gave a presentation about Life in Uganda, and what it means to be truly poor. They run a school for over 600 children and provide food and in many cases provide a bed, as many children live in the “bush” and walk miles to school. Education is of most importance to these children. After their presentation our Knights’ council agreed to sponsor a student, and they chose Asaph. He rewarded us with being #1 out of 88 students. That is the best thank you we could have received. Space would not allow the full story about this wonderful team of Jean and Dave but they have been “miracle workers” providing a deep well that provides water for the school, a clinic for health assistance and micro enterprise projects for mothers and children. They truly have changed the lives for so many. It is an honor to assist this most worthy enterprise.
