1 Foreword

1.1 Purpose and structure of the document

This document refers to Y-Packet full-outdoor microwave radio, and aims to provide information about composition

of product and ordering codes.

It is structured in the following basic parts:

1.2 Customer documentation organization

Customer Documentation for Y-Packet full-outdoor microwave radio also includes the following:

• Feature&Configuration Guide (FC)

The Feature&Configuration Guide gives an overview of the application, composition, performance, features,

interfaces, functions and maintenance of the Y-Packet product.

It also contains the most important technical data.

The Feature&Configuration Guide does not contain instructions for installing.

• Installation and Test Manual (IT)

The Installation and Test Manual contains instructions about mounting, connecting and commissioning the Y-Packet

product, connecting and commissioning the Y-Terminal operating terminals.

• Operator Manual (OM)

The Operator Manual document provides information on how to operate, monitor and maintain the Y-Packet

product using the Element Manager software (Application Software) running on the Y-Terminal.

In addition to Graphical User Interface (GUI) window descriptions and task instructions, the Operator Manual

describes remedial actions to be followed in the case of alarms.

1.4.2 Use of Unlicensed Bands (ETSI)

Special regulations apply to the use of Y-Packet 17 GHz (C and F versions) and Y-Packet 24 GHz (C and F versions),

when operating in the unlicensed frequency bands 17.1 – 17.3 GHz and 24.00 – 24.25 GHz in EU countries:

specifically, they must conform to the applicable regulations for the Equivalent Isotropic Radiated Power (EIRP) and

therefore the Max allowed Transmit Power is equal to EIRP limit of antenna gain + cable loss.

Limits of EIRP and applicable regulations are shown on ERC/REC 70-03:

• 100mw (+ 20dBm) for frequency band 17.10 – 17.30 GHz and 24.00 – 24.25 GHz

Operators shall note that regulations are subject to change.

In order to be compliant with such regulations, YOUNCTA strongly suggests to use antennas with diameter equal or

less than 0.3m (1ft).

In case of 24 GHz the max recommended antenna diameter is 0.2m.

Y-Packet 17 GHz equipment may be used in the following EU states and EFTA countries*: AUT, BEL, BUL, CZE, CYP,

DNK, EST, FIN, F, D, GRC, HNG, IRL, ISL, I, LVA, LIE, LTU, LUX, MLT, HOL, NOR, POL, POR, ROU, SVK, SVN, E, SUI, S, G.

Y-Packet 24 GHz equipment may be used in the following EU states and EFTA countries*: AUT, BEL, BUL, CZE, CYP,

DNK, EST, FIN, D, GRC, HNG, IRL, ISL, I, LVA, LIE, LTU, LUX, MLT, HOL, NOR, POL, POR, ROU, SVK, SVN, E, SUI, S, G, (F

2 Before ordering Y-Packet

2.1 Structure of BOM (Bill Of Material)

This section aims to explain how a BOM for ordering Y-Packet shall be composed. Hereafter, a description is given of

main parts, HW and SW, which are part of a Y-Packet link.

The Y-Packet is composed by an Outdoor Unit (ODU), powered by an indoor PoE injector and/or 48 VDC. The two

types of ODU supported are:

! Y-Packet C: electrical ODU, with GE PoE interface; in this case a PoE injector is always required to power on the

equipment

! Y-Packet F: optical ODU, with external DC power connector and SFP Ethernet port in addition to GE PoE electrical

port; in this case, the ODU can be powered either by DC or PoE (both if a power source backup is needed)

Depending on the System Type, different accessories and/or SW licenses shall be associated to the equipment and

PoE injector.

3 Y-Packet Product Description

Y-Packet is a High Capacity Microwave Radio system designed for reliable point-to-point transmission.

Y-Packet has been conceived using a full outdoor approach. Two variants of Y-Packet are available. Y-Packet C, where

the ODU is directly connected to a PoE injector: PoE can be powered by either mains (110-220 VAC) or battery (-48

VDC). Y-Packet F, with external DC power connector and SFP port in addition to electrical GE PoE port: it can be

powered either by DC or PoE.

Y-Packet main features are listed below:

• Frequency bands : 6U, 7, 8, 10.5, 11, 13, 15, 17, 18, 23, 24, 32, 38 GHz

• ETSI (7, 14, 28, 40, 56 MHz) radio channel

• FEC coding for improved Rx threshold performance

• Adaptive Modulation configurable by Operator: the modulation level is automatically adjusted to the

quality of the Rx signal

• Digital pre-distorter for higher Tx power

• ATPC and RTPC

• Compact ODU

• System Types 1+0, 2+0 XPIC, 1+1 HSB, 2+0 RLA

• Traffic capacity from 8 to 417 Mbps L2 throughput in 1+0 configuration (up to 840 Mbps for 2+0 XPIC)

• FE/GE 100/1000BASE-T User Interface with auto-negotiation on PoE; GE Optical SFP (Y-Packet F only)

Y-Packet C (where C stand for Copper) comes with the following ports:

1 PoE GE electrical port: it is used both for data traffic and to provide equipment power

1 round multipolar connector for XPIC or 1+1 HSB: it is used for connecting two ODUs at one site for the

XPIC, RLA or 1+1 HSB system configuration

1 RSSI alignment: it is used for antenna alignment during installation phase, it detects a voltage value that is

proportional to Rx power

1 antenna port: it is Standard IEC rectangular/square waveguide, to connect to integrated or non-integrated

In the paragraphs that follow, you can find a list of all ordering codes for Y-Packet F.

Y-Packet F (where F stand for Fibre) comes with the following ports:

1 PoE GE electrical port: it is used both for data traffic and to provide equipment power

1 additional additional SFP GE optical port

1 round multipolar connector for XPIC or 1+1 HSB: it is used for connecting two ODUs at one site for the

XPIC or 1+1 HSB system configuration

1 RSSI alignment: it is used for antenna alignment during installation phase, it detects a voltage value that is

proportional to Rx power

1 External Power Supply port: it is used for VDC power supply, as an alternative to PoE

1 antenna port: it is Standard IEC rectangular/square waveguide, to connect to integrated or non-integrated

antenna
