The Pastors Desk 6 Reasons You Should Say YesWhen Asked to Lead/Minister in Your Church Adapted from Eric Geiger 1. You will learn more deeply. If you are showing up each week at church and only learning, you are not learning as much as you could if you started also feeding others. You will learn a lot more by doing. As a leader prepares to lead others, the leader is sharpened. As a teacher prepares to feed others, the teacher is fed. 2. You will be able to articulate the faith more clearly. The great theologian Helmut Thielicke required all his doctoral students to teach kids while they were studying theology. He knew that if you really understood theology, they could teach it to someone else—even to a child. Articulating truth to real people helps you really learn it. 3. You will give of yourself more freely. When you lead a group of kids, students, or adults and you pray for those you are leading, you will find yourself loving them more than you imagined and giving of yourself more than you planned. And you will know you are a part of some- thing very significant. 6 Reasons You Should Say “Yes” When Asked to Lead/Minister in Your Church Adapted from Eric Geiger

And you will know you are a part of some-thing very significant. Reasons 4-5 in our September newsletter

Nigeria: Pastor Released After Seven Months in Captivity

On Oct. 19, 2020, Reverend Polycarp Zongo was kidnapped by members of the terrorist group Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) while traveling from his home in Jos to Gombe for a conference. Within weeks of his abduction, his kidnappers released a video of him, demanding a high ran-som for his release. After months of negotiations, however, the terrorist group released the pastor in June, and he is now home with his family after seven months in captivity. Despite the hardships he faced, Reverend Polycarp’s faith is strong, and he has spoken in his church since his release. “He still carries the message of hope and doesn’t seem to have been deterred from the faith,” a VOM worker shared. “Please pray for God’s healing, both mind and body, for him as he recuperates from this ordeal.”
