Year 9 Weekly Newsletter 18th September 2014 Perhaps I should begin by congratulating last year’s Head of Year 8 on the birth of her baby son Zak, back in June – Mrs Jones and the Zak are both doing really well and in fact Mrs. Jones has just re-appeared here at BISAD on a part time basis - I know that she was very keen to see her former year group and to catch up on their summer adventures. We are delighted that Mrs. Harvey (PE) and Mr. Boulton (History) have joined our year group as form tutors, both are very experienced teachers and they are already forging strong links with their form groups. We are also welcoming a host of new students too – too many to mention individually – but we welcome them wholeheartedly. I should take this opportunity to thank the many students in year 9 who have acted as Buddies over the last week or two, in order to help our new students settle in. Some of our Buddies haven’t been at BISAD too long themselves but they always strive to welcome even newer students and it is a great strength of our school that no new student feels lost and alone on their first days with us.

Perhaps I should begin by congratulating last

year’s Head of Year 8 on the birth of her baby son

Zak, back in June – Mrs Jones and the Zak are

both doing really well and in fact Mrs. Jones has

just re-appeared here at BISAD on a part time

basis - I know that she was very keen to see her

former year group and to catch up on their

summer adventures.

We are delighted that Mrs. Harvey (PE) and Mr.

Boulton (History) have joined our year group as

form tutors, both are very experienced teachers

and they are already forging strong links with

their form groups. We are also welcoming a host

of new students too – too many to mention

individually – but we welcome them

wholeheartedly. I should take this opportunity

to thank the many students in year 9 who have

acted as Buddies over the last week or two, in

order to help our new students settle in. Some of

our Buddies haven’t been at BISAD too long

themselves but they always strive to welcome

even newer students and it is a great strength of

our school that no new student feels lost and

alone on their first days with us.

There is of course much to look forward to as we

embark on a new school year. Our

extra-curricular activities are beginning and I

very much hope that all of our students will take

the opportunity to join at least one of our clubs

and groups.

Green week is fast approaching too when

students will have the opportunity to work in

different ways to ‘audit’ the schools’

environmental impact and make

recommendations on how we can become an

even Greener school.

On the 11th of this month we had a performance

by the teachers of the Music Institute as a

precursor to our students being able to sign up

for music lessons and again, we very much hope

that many will.

The Arts are sure to play a large part in our

school calendar this year as we embark on an

ambitious program of contemporary

performances throughout the year.

Finally, I was delighted to see so many parents in

school this week for our ‘Meet and Greet’ evening

– I very much hope that you got to ask the

questions you wanted to ask. If not, please do

not hesitate to get in touch with me or your

son’s / daughters’ form tutor - we will be happy

to help.

Best wishes!

Chris Lowe

Acting Head of Year 9
