TheAssessmentProgrammewithintheCollegeallowsforabroadrangeoftasksandthereforeprovidesopportunitytodemonstrateachievementofthestandardsindifferentways.Assessment atMarist CollegeNorth Shore in the YearNine courseswill followa standards referenceapproachforallsubjects.Thismeansthatassessmentsaremeasuredagainststandardsofperformance.

INFORMATIONFORPARENTSANDSTUDENTS
RoSACurriculum
ToqualifyfortheAwardoftheRoSAastudentmust–(a) satisfactorilycompletetheminimumnumberandpatternofcoursesrequiredbyNESA(formallyBOSTES).(b) meetallthemandatory(compulsory)studyrequirementsforYearsSeventoTenineachKeyLearningArea.(c) haveasatisfactoryrecordofattendanceandapplication.
ExplanationofRoSATheRecordofSchoolAchievement(RoSA)isthenewcredentialforstudentswholeaveschoolafterYearTenandbeforetheyreceivetheirHigherSchoolCertificate(HSC).ACumulativeRecordofallAcademicAchievementTheRoSAisdesignedtorecordandcredentialallsecondaryschoolstudents’academicresultsupuntiltheHSC.▪ Whileall students currently receivegrades for courses they completeat theendofYearTen, this systemwill be
extendedtoalsocapturegradesforcoursesastudentcompletesinYearEleven.▪ If a student leaves school before receiving a grade in Years Elevenor Twelve courses, their RoSAwill record the
coursestheycommenced.▪ This measures acknowledges the fact that many students begin senior secondary study but leave school for
employmentorothertrainingopportunitiesbeforereceivingtheirHSC.FairAllocationofGradesItisimportantforparents,employersandstudentstoknowthatgradesawardedfortheRoSAcredentialaregivenfairlyandconsistently.▪ NSW teachers are very experienced in determining the standard of work that warrants a particular grade. As
grading is extended into senior secondary courses, NESA will work with teachers to ensure that appropriatestandardsaredevelopedandappliedatthatlevel.
▪ TheNESAwillalsoprovideschoolswithinformationaboutthehistoricalallocationofgradestotheirstudents.Thiswillserveasaguidefortheallocationofgradestocurrentstudents.
▪ Thesemethodsofmoderationandmonitoringofgradeswillhelpensurethatparentsandemployerscanknowthatagradeawardedinoneschoolisequivalenttothesamegradeawardedinanotherschool.

LiteracyandNumeracyTestsStudentswholeaveschoolbeforetheygettheirHSCwillhavetheoptiontoundertakeliteracyandnumeracytests.▪ The tests, which will be offered online and under teacher supervision, will be reported separately to the RoSA
credential.▪ Thetestswillnotbeavailabletoallstudents,onlythosewhoindicatetheywishtoleaveschool. Thetestswillbe
designedtoreflecttheneedsandexpectationsofstudentswholeaveschoolbeforeundertakingtheHSC.▪ Studentswillbeabletotakethetestsduring‘windows’ofavailabilitythroughouttheyear.Theywillbeabletosit
thetestsonlyonceduringeachwindow,butcansitforthemagainshouldtheydecidetostayonlongeratschool.ThemostrecentresultswillbeissuedaspartoftheRoSAwhenastudentleavesschool.
RecordingExtra-CurricularAchievementsTheNESArecognisesmanyemployersareinterestedinmorethanacademicresultsandisworkingonanonlineresourcetohelp students bring together evidence of a range of extra-curricular activities. A pilot programmewill began in 2012 todeveloparesourceforstudentstorecordtheirachievementsinareassuchasfirst-aidorvolunteerwork.MoreinformationontheRoSAcanbefoundat:https://www.boardofstudies.nsw.edu.au/rosa/
SATISFACTORYCOMPLETIONOFACOURSE “Tohavesatisfactorilycompletedacourse,studentswillhave– ▪ followedthecourse; ▪ appliedthemselveswithdiligenceandsustainedefforttothesettasksandexperiencesprovidedinthe coursebytheschool;and ▪ achievedsomeorallofthecourseoutcomes.” (ACE11.4)
Attendance AtMaristCollegeNorthShore,85%attendanceisconsideredaminimum
-Exceptionalcasesinvolvinglessthat85%attendanceneedtobeapprovedbytheHeadmaster.
-Inparticular,anyextendedoverseasleaverequirestheapprovaloftheHeadmastertwoweekspriorto thestudentcommencingtheleave.
-Therearetobenounexplainedabsences.
-AttendancedeemedunsatisfactorywillproceedtotheReviewProcess.
Participation AGENUINEATTEMPTmustbemadeconcerningthelearningandteachingactivitiesofacourse.
-Participatinginacourseinvolvescompletingassignment,homeworkandsettasks.
-Itisuptotheteacher’sprofessionaljudgmenttodeterminewhatconstitutesgenuineparticipation.
-ThosedeemedunsatisfactorywillbereferredtotheReviewProcess.
Completion AstudentmustmakeaGENUINEATTEMPTatallAssessmentTasksineachcourseinwhichheisentered.ofAssessment -AnystudentwhofailstocompleteAssessmentTasksworthinexcessof50%oftheavailablemarkswillTasks beissueswithanofficialNESA“N”(non-Completion)notice,whichwilldisqualifyhimfromthisparticular
course -ThismayinturndisqualifyhimfromreceivingtheRoSA. -Warningsaresenttoparentsinwritingifthiseventualityappearslikely.

UNSATISFACTORYCOMPLETIONOFACOURSESTEP1 NOTIFICATION Parents will be notified by letter when students are reviewed for
theirperformanceinacourse.ThisformalWARNINGiscalledan‘N-Warning’.
• The appropriate Studies Coordinator / Head of Department andDirector of Teaching and Learning are responsible for notifyingparents at all stages of a review of a student’s performance in acourse.
STEP2 StudentsaregivenOPPORTUNITYTORECTIFYTHEIRSITUATION.
• ATTENDANCE may involve students being placed on an attendancecontracttomeetrequirements.
• PARTICIPATIONmayinvolvestudentsbeingplacedonaCLASScontracttomeetrequirements.
• COMPLETION OF ASSESSMENT requires students to complete theassessmenttaskwithinatwoweekperiod.
STEP3 SECOND N-WARNING LETTER SENT - Students are given a second opportunity to
rectifytheirsituation.STEP4 UNSATISFACTORYDETERMINATION(N-AWARD)Anunsatisfactoryresultinacoursewill
bedeterminedby theHeadmaster, inconjunctionwith theDirectorofTeachingandLearning.
• ThiswilloccurafteranAssessmentAppealsProcesshasbeencompleted.• The aim of the Assessment Appeals Process is restoration and the
avoidanceofawardingunsatisfactoryresults.
SCHEDULEOFTASKSSTEP1 NOTIFICATIONOFTASKS-TheScheduleofTasks(Section2)indicatesspecificdates
scheduledfromTerm1toTerm4,2016.
• Forhand-inassessmenttasks,writtennoticewillalsobegivenoutliningdetailsandmarkingcriteriaatleasttwoweekspriortothetaskdate.Teachersshouldusetheirprofessionaljudgementtoensurestudentshaveadequatetimetoprepareforeachtask.
