Lesson – Numeracy – How much do people litter?
Task – Create a tally chart and a pictograph to show how much litter you
find in your local park *
One way you can help the earth is to reduce
pollution by putting on a pair of gloves and taking
a bag to your local park and doing a litter pick.
What is the most common piece of litter?
How could you find this out?

Create a pictogram
A pictogram uses pictures or symbols to
represent data.
You need to draw a key to show how
many items 1 picture/symbol represents
on your chart.
I would like you to use 1 symbol
to represent the count of 1
. Give your pictogram a title – Think
about what your pictogram is showing
Label the axis – Think about…
What is the y axis showing you?
What is the x axis showing you?

Lesson – Art
Task – Make an upcycled planter
Collect discarded plastic bottles and containers from around the house. Spray
paint acrylic paints, glue and a craft knife will also be necessary along with other
decorative craft supplies. Your plant selections will also be part of the creative
process.
Use a craft knife to cut openings in the plastic containers to accommodate the
vision of your character and where the plants will be located. Cut drain holes in
the bottom of the container as well. Ask your parents/carers to help you with
this.
Put a layer of small rocks or pebbles in the bottom of the container to help with
drainage. Fill the container to near the top with potting soil and add your plants.
I can’t wait to see all your fabulous creations!
Send pictures of your planters to [email protected]

Lesson – Food
Task – Make a bird seed feeder
Directions
• Empty two packets (not boxes) of plain gelatine into a very large mixing bowl.
• Carefully pour in a little bit of boiling water (Ask parents/carers to help you with this and be
careful).
• Stir the mixture very gently until all of the gelatine is dissolved.
• Measure out the bird seed. Any type will work as long as the seeds and bits are not too big
• Pour the bird seed into the gelatine/water mixture.
• Stir it for a few minutes, making sure that all of the seeds are evenly coated and that there
is no longer excess water at the bottom of the bowl.
• Cover a tray in parchment paper and lay out the cookie cutters and moulds.
• Using a teaspoon, fill each cookie cutter with seed, one by one.
• Make sure that they’re a little bit overfull, so be generous with the seed.
• Because the mixture gets really sticky, cover the cookie cutters with a layer of parchment
and press the seeds down into the moulds.
• Take the straws and carefully insert them into the cookie cutters, making sure to not place
them too close to the edges. Press the seeds down around them to make sure everything
stays tight.
• Put the tray into the fridge and let them set for a couple of hours before taking them out
and letting them dry out of the fridge.
• Gently pop the shapes out of their moulds.
• Pull out the straws and make sure that the holes are clear all the way through.
• For the last step, use some twine or ribbon, put it through the holes, and knot the tops.
