Keep up maths fluency skills – all four operations: +, -, x and ÷ - use Sumdog for this, and check that you are completing any Sumdog challenges that I set!

Practise spellings on the word lists for Y1 & 2, and Year 3 & 4. Try learning 5 a day. Use Look, Cover, Write, Check and get an adult to test you. Access Sumdog and Spelling Frame too to help you.

Write an interesting sentence about a picture. Don’t forget to use full punctuation. Make sure you practise your joined handwriting, and include adjectives and adverbs – use www.pobble365.com

Do something active – PE with Joe Wicks, Oti Mabuse dancing daily at 11.30, walking, skipping…..see our website under CV-19 for further suggestions on fun ways to stay active.

Science Animals and Humans Lesson 4 I know why we have muscles and how we use them. I know why we have muscles. Why do we have muscles? Chn discuss what they are for. Where are our muscles? Watch the BBC Bitesize video link:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/class-clips-video/science-ks2-how-do-muscles-and-bones-work/zfgtscw

Look at the muscles PPT attached on the website – think about which muscles are used for different activities e.g. brushing teeth, getting out of bed.

The BFG. Read the next chapter – A Trogglehumper for the Fleshlumpeater. Then answer these questions:

Then choose a challenge to try from the options on the question sheet.

Science – Lesson 5 I know that animals and humans get nutrition from what they eat. How do living things get the food they need? Think about plants, humans and different animals - why do we need food, and how do we get it? Focus on animals - can you remember the three names for different types of animals who eat different things - only meat, only plants or both? Task 1 Look at the PPT to help you. Sorting activity – sort pictures of animals into the correct category. Use the Venn diagram – can you see the overlap in the middle between carnivore and herbivore? Why is this? Task 2 - write 3 headings in columns – carnivore – omnivore – carnivore. Choose some of the animals (or animals of your choice!) and write them under the correct heading. Then choose one animal and use sentences to write about what it eats, how it obtains it, link to habitat too.

Challenge – can you give detail about the animal’s diet? Where do herbivores and carnivores get their food from?

Writing warm up – read the next chapter – Dreams.

Also think about the chapter Dream Catching. Think about some of the one-

sentence dream descriptions which the BFG wrote on the jars. Activity (drama!) A lot more activity would have happened in these dreams – the BFG has just written a brief synopsis. Think of your own one-sentence dream description – about whatever you like! Write your ideas down on slips of paper. Ask someone at home to do the same, and mix the paper up in a basket or tub. Tip – think of a location e.g. space, underwater, and think about who is there – a giraffe? Aliens? There are some ideas attached to this learning pack to get your ideas going – with Friday’s plan)! Now, take one slip of paper from the basket, and come up with the rest of the dream’s story – tell it to a family member, and then ask them to do the same! Be as adventurous as you can with your funny ideas! Can you act it out?! Have a try at this with three different dreams. Keep the slips of paper for tomorrow’s lesson.

Allotment and Wildlife garden. Go outside, water some plants and sit quietly. Do you notice the sounds of animals and birdsong? Look carefully for insects and minibeasts….think about whether they are vertebrates or invertebrates. Find out if they are carnivores, omnivores or herbivores. Write a list of the animals you notice. Can you identify any of the plants too? Sketch some plants or animals in your garden (weather permitting). Music Go to: https://charanga.com/site/ Go to the pupil and teacher log in area on the left. Log in by entering your username and password into the Charanga YUMU student login in the middle box: Username: Mexico Password: Browick Click on ‘launch’ – Bringing Us Together. Recap Listen and Appraise / ‘Bringing Us Together’. Try at the silver and gold warm up games for ‘Bringing Us Together’.

Can you learn the song? Have a look at some of the other songs too – enjoy!

White Rose Maths home learning Y3 Summer Term Week 9 w/c 22nd June Lesson 4 – parallel and perpendicular https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-3/

BFG – Dreams Activity One: Re-write down the sentence descriptions of the dreams you invented yesterday. Now write a few sentences explaining the story that you made it into – (again look at the ideas for Friday on the attachments) Activity Two: Choose another slip from the dreams basket (from yesterday). Now, invent a story for it and orally tell it to a friend / family member. Describe your dreams to other people. Have a try at the above activities for two or three dreams. Don’t forget to use lots of imaginative adjectives.

WEATHER PERMITTING!!!

Hold you own Sports Day! Invent some races for your family to take part in and have fun outdoors! Ideas: Skipping race, obstacle course, water relay, bean bag throwing or a target / aiming competition, ball bouncing…. If you can’t do that, try Joe Wicks from his class yesterday. Good luck with that!!!! Read another chapter of The BFG at your own pace.

Look at the dream swirling in the dream jar………. Can you colour areas containing right angles one colour. Can you see any obtuse angles? You could colour them a different colour. Can you see any acute angles? Colour them a different colour. Now look at your dream. Is it a happy dream? A whizzpopper? Can you name it? What is it about?

Make yourself a right angle checker and discover which objects contain right angles around your home or at school! Test yourself on your times tables and spend some time on Sumdog or Topmarks.

Describing a dream Think of your own dream today – write a one-sentence synopsis first, then underneath, describe the dream in more detail. Use first person – look at BFG examples. Pretend that it is you in the dream, so you need to use ‘I’ in your writing. Look at the examples I have attached for today. Try to complete more than one dream.

Finish reading The BFG. If it is sunny outside, and you have a copy of the book, read this in the shade and enjoy the last few chapters of this enchanting story. Then, if you have the energy:

Creative writing You could write an alternative ending to The BFG. You can write any story that you like! Or continue with a story that you are already working on. Or a story about where your dream took you! Don’t forget similes, adjectives and adverbs to make your writing interesting. Challenge: think about chapter headings, and using paragraphs to organise you writing / ideas.

Your last day of Year 3!!!!! Finish the BFG. And – relax!! Outdoor play – if the weather is nice! Here is a link to some lovely art activities to try either today or during the holidays if you are looking for ideas. https://garnethillcommunity.files.wordpress.com/2020/05/lockdown-lessonsjonny-kirkwood.pdf I have attached one activity for you to try in this learning pack from the above link. Have fun!
