Year 2 Remote Learning Pack
Welcome
Hello everybody! • We miss you all lots! It has been nice to speak to some of you on the phone and hear about all the hard work
you are getting up to, we are very proud of you! Keep working hard and looking after each other. Don’t forget you can email us if you need any help with any of the work or you want to show us what you have done, using: [email protected].
• There are video links within your pack to support your learning throughout the week. • Remember, as well, it is really important to keep up with your daily exercises, either using some of the links
we have sent you, or even PE with Joe Wicks which is on every week day on YouTube. • Each task in English and Maths is split into three. They are split into: red/orange, green and blue. The
children know what groups they are in at school they are in for Maths and English. The activities start off easier and get harder. The children will need to complete the work for the group that they are in, however if they wish to begin with the easier questions and work up to the harder questions that is fine.
• You will also find this information on our website where you will then be able to download it if you wish to
alongside a list of useful links.

Day 2 English
Writing an letter Today, you are going to write the introduction to a letter to Stoke City Council about putting more play equipment in Fenton Park. Remember an introduction is to help the reader of the letter know why you are writing to them. We are going to use a range of vocabulary in our introduction. Look at the example to help you. This is a letter to Mrs Oakes Smith asking her to extend our play times. Dear Mrs Oakes Smith,
I am writing to you to ask you if you would consider making our playtimes longer. As a child at Glebe Academy I would like to tell you the reasons as to why I think that playtimes should be extended and what positive impact it would have on not just my own learning, but all pupils at Glebe Academy.
Now you have a go, using the lines below, to write the introduction to a letter to Stoke City Council, asking them to
put more play equipment in Fenton Park.

Day 2 Geography
Focus: Learning about other countries Uncle Bob has travelled to Nigeria in Africa. Let’s find out what he saw there! Click on the video below:
Nigeria is a country in Africa. Africa is the second biggest continent in the world. If you look closely at a map of Africa you will count over 40 countries! Nigeria is four times the size of the UK and lots of young people and children live there. Nigeria has some amazing places. There are busy cities, tropical rainforests, and river deltas full of crabs, fish, hippos and butterflies.
Do you remember what we saw in Nigeria? World words Factory - a building where goods are made or put together. Forest - a large area of land where lots of trees grow. Port - a place on the land close to water where boats or ships can come to load or unload goods or people. Street - a road in a town or a city with buildings down one or both sides. Vegetation - the different types of plants that grow in a certain area. Task:
Design your own travel poster to attract tourists to visit Nigeria.

Day 3 English
Using persuasion in a letter. Today, you are going to use persuasive language in your letter to Stoke City Council to try and encourage them to build some new play equipment. Here is a list of persuasive language. What is persuasive language? Take a look at the video to help you to find out!
Look at the example to help you:
It is essential that playtime is longer. If not, children won’t be able to focus in class, get
enough exercise to be healthy, or interact with other children and make friends. Therefore,
playtime must be longer.
If children have longer playtimes they will burn off energy and can focus more in class. Also,
children need time to clear their minds and absorb what they learned. Playtime gives children
something to look forward to so they will work harder in class.
As you probably already know, playtime is a chance to get exercise and receive Vitamin D
from the sun. If children don’t get exercise they won’t be healthy.

Students need to be healthy to do well in school. Students need recess to interact with each other and make friends. If they have even longer recess they will make even more friends. If students have friends in school and in class they won’t get bored in school. These reasons Focus, Exercise, and Student Interaction demonstrate why recess absolutely has to be longer. The time to act is now, because if we don’t act now, when? When will we make longer recess so children will be happier and healthier? Obviously, we act now or never!
