Year 2 Home learning We have tried to cut down on the amount of printing that you need to do by putting the instructions first and then adding the corresponding activities further down the document in a more condensed manner so you can just select those particular pages to print This week it would be pages 3,4,9 and 10 for example). We hope this is easier (and cheaper) for you. Maths Session 1: Fluency (10 – 15 minutes). 2 times table. Try saying your 2 times table out loud (every time we say something out loud instead of just in our head it helps it to stick a bit better). You can then either write out your 2x table or play a tables game online such as Hit the Button or this tables memory game (select 2 times). https://www.timestables.co.uk/times-tables-memory.html Once you have warmed your brain up, do fluency activity 1 for 5 to 6 minutes – do as much as you can in the time, don’t worry if you don’t finish. After 5 – 6 minutes, mark your work with an adult. Now do your first maths lesson: 5 Times Table https://vimeo.com/490421314 Session 2 Fluency (10 – 15 minutes). Warm up your brain by practising your number bonds for 10, 20 and 100. You can quiz your adult or maybe you could make up your own Memory game with little pieces of paper. You can also play Hit the Button: https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button (select Number Bonds then do 10, 20 and 100) Once your brain has warmed up please spend 5-6 minutes doing fluency activity 2. You can do this one in any order you want. Can you mark them afterwards – just like we do at school. Now do your second lesson: 10 times table https://vimeo.com/490421912

Year 2 Home learning

We have tried to cut down on the amount of printing that you need to do by putting the

instructions first and then adding the corresponding activities further down the document in

a more condensed manner so you can just select those particular pages to print This week it

would be pages 3,4,9 and 10 for example). We hope this is easier (and cheaper) for you.

Maths

Session 1: Fluency (10 – 15 minutes). 2 times table. Try saying your 2 times table out loud

(every time we say something out loud instead of just in our head it helps it to stick a bit

better). You can then either write out your 2x table or play a tables game

online such as Hit the Button or this tables memory game (select 2 times).

https://www.timestables.co.uk/times-tables-memory.html

Once you have warmed your brain up, do fluency activity 1 for 5 to 6 minutes

– do as much as you can in the time, don’t worry if you don’t finish. After 5 –

6 minutes, mark your work with an adult.

Now do your first maths lesson: 5 Times Table

https://vimeo.com/490421314

Session 2

Fluency (10 – 15 minutes).

Warm up your brain by practising your number bonds for 10, 20 and 100. You

can quiz your adult or maybe you could make up your own Memory game with

little pieces of paper. You can also play Hit the Button:

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button (select Number Bonds

then do 10, 20 and 100) Once your brain has warmed up please spend 5-6 minutes doing

fluency activity 2. You can do this one in any order you want. Can you mark them

afterwards – just like we do at school.

Now do your second lesson: 10 times table

https://vimeo.com/490421912

Session 3

Fluency (10-15 minutes) Subtraction. Warm up that subtraction brain by counting

backwards. Practice crossing a multiple of 10 a few times – remember that your tens

number will decrease but your ones number will get bigger! Use your Hundred Square (from

week 1) or the online one to support you: https://www.topmarks.co.uk/learning-to-

count/paint-the-squares

Once you have warmed your brain up, do fluency activity 3 for 5 to 6

minutes – do as much as you can in the time, don’t worry if you don’t

finish. After 5 – 6 minutes, mark your work with an adult.

If you want more practise at subtraction, there are some additional worksheets sent as an

attachment (only print them if you want them).

Now do your 3rd lesson: Making Equal Groups - Sharing (This is a Y1 ‘Recovery Lesson’ as

this foundation concept would not have been taught during Y1 lockdown)

https://vimeo.com/492603273

Session 4

Fluency – Mixed calculations and number comparisons. Warm your brain up by counting

OUT LOUD to 100 and then backwards from 100 to 0

Use your 100 square (from last week) or the interactive one here:

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/learning-to-count/paint-the-squares

Hopefully your brain is now fizzing? Spend 5-6 (or as long as you want) minutes doing your

fluency activity 4. Use the greater than, less than and equals to symbols (> < =) to

compare the numbers. Mark your work with an adult. Go for Gold!

Now do your final maths lesson: Make Equal Groups – Sharing (Y2 lesson – there will be

overlap from yesterday’s lesson, don’t worry, it’s important to do both fully, we are building

the foundations to successful division).

Extra Maths: These figures can be printed and cut out – see activity below.

Extra Maths

Using money! If you have some money at home start off by sorting it out and putting it in

order from least to greatest value. If not, there are some sheets sent as an attachment that

you could print out to make your own coins.

You can play a good money game here: https://www.topmarks.co.uk/money/toy-shop-

money and https://www.topmarks.co.uk/money/coins-game

You can: Use your money to play a shops game, selling your toys (make some price tags for

them). Challenge and extension comes through creating same amounts in different ways

and by giving change.

Challenge and Extend:

You can ‘buy’ these mini figures. How will you make the amount? Is there more than 1 way?

How can you do it with the least or most coins?

What if I paid with a £1 coin – How much change will I get?

What about if I wanted more than 1? How much would that cost?

Which combinations of 2 mini figures could I buy if I had 50p, is there more than 1 right

answer?

How many combinations of 2 figures would cost more than £1?

English

This week’s English lessons are online from The Oak National Academy. The lessons are

about 25 minutes long, online and are accessible at any time through any device that has

the internet. There are times that the lesson will need to be paused so the children can

complete the activity. Please could you just point out the pause button to them. Other than

that, the children should be able to work quite independently. If you have time maybe your

child could explain to you what they learnt in the lesson.

The best way to watch the videos is through Chrome or Safari. Just

copy and paste the links into the search box if the hyperlink doesn’t

work.

Remember you will need to watch The Oak National Academy on Chrome or

Safari and copy and paste into the search bar

You can then choose an episode of ‘Seven Worlds, One Planet’ to watch.

(Not the Antarctica episode as this is your geography lesson)

https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episodes/p07dzjwl/seven-worlds-one-planet

Or an episode of David Attenborough’s new series ‘A Perfect Planet’.

This week we are making sliding pictures like this:

Have a go at designing your own sliding picture, at school we are making Katie Morag

kicking her teddy into the sea. You will need to design and colour in the background onto

paper or card (TIP: Use a cut up cereal box)and carefully cut a slit along the path you want

your moving object to take. The picture above shows 2 cuts but 1 will do.

Then cut out a picture of the bit you want to move (above it would be the goat) and attach

it to another strip of card. Now you can push your moving part through the slit and slide it

around in your picture!

Although this does not require submission, if you would like us to see it –

send a photo!
