Year 12 Information Evening
We must acknowledge that Covid has caused trauma within our school and families, and it has not yet disappeared as we may have hoped. Dr Karen Treisman says “Relational trauma requires relational repair”. The key to this is building relationships, supporting your young person with sustaining the relationships they made in Y12, with staff, peers and friends. Reminding them that we are working together as a Sixth Form and with them and you as their family, encouraging them to join societies and clubs, even if they haven’t done so in the past. Recreating the sense of belonging they will have felt in the lower school, that may have become strained or hard to sustain last year.
Recovery Post-Covid
By focusing holistically on our key areas and ensuring students’ well being and mental health is supported, they are more likely to be motivated and achieve as well as having the resilience needed for the transition to adulthood.
Well being
We can work together...
Context of Year 12

• Communicate with your daughter

Revision Techniques
Ineffective Learner Effective Learner
Large amount of time spent by
learners writing up revision
notes, cards, etc.
Considerably less time spent
on learning information and
applying it to examination
questions
Most of the time is spent on the application of knowledge. Feedback allows the learner to revisit revision material and to relearn information before testing themselves once again. Continual cycle of application and relearning.
The Effective Learner at St Philomena’s
App to Help with Revision
There is a new app called ‘adapt’
It’s completely FREE and helps students to map out the subjects they study with the amount of time left until they sit the exam.
The app will help students plan their time effectively, and if they don't cover as much as you planned, the app will reschedule everything over the remaining time.
Academic ProgressStudents not on target:• Tier 1- 1 subject is 2 grades below- HoD
meets weekly & monitors progress• Tier 2- 1 subject is 3 grades below- HoD
meets weekly & HoY Academic meets twice every Half Term
• Tier 3- 2 or more subjects are 3 grades below and/ or ‘U’ grade , HoD meets weekly & Head of Sixth Form meets twice every Half Term
Processes in place for missed homework and missed coursework.
