The MFL-STEMsummer residential visit
We are taking 38 Y7/8/9 students The trip is from Monday 19th July to
Wednesday 21st July We will be visiting and staying in
Paris, the capital of France and one of the most beautiful cities in Europe

Itinerary – an overview
Monday evening: leave school
Tuesday: day in Paris Science Museum Notre Dame Bateaux Mouches Depart for hotel
Wednesday: visit to Eiffel Tower return travel
You will need….Clothes - The weather could be changeable. Be prepared
as you will be outside for a long period of time. The following is a basic guide:
Footwear – trainers/sensible, comfortable shoes Waterproof jacket Leisurewear – jeans, trousers, t-shirt, jumper, shorts,
tracksuit A change of clothing Cap/sun hat Sunglasses Underwear Nightwear
You will need….Toiletries: soap shower gel shampoo towel toothbrush toothpaste brush comb
You will also need…. English money and Euros Suitcase/travel bag - labelled Extra bag/rucksack for your purchases! Camera and films Pillow/cushion Book/personal stereo for journey Food and drink – NO CHEWING GUM AND CERTAINLY NO FIZZY
DRINKS BEFORE BREAKFAST! Water is best. Fruit. French dictionary/phrase book Hat and sun cream – it could be very hot. Adaptor for any electrical appliances EHIC health card – details on your letter
You will not have access to your main suitcase until Tuesday evening, so pack a small rucksack with
travel essentials for the journey down
Monday 19th July
Meet in the school car park at 20.30 NO EARLIER PLEASE
Pass labelled suitcase to coach driver.
Get on the bus ONLY when asked to by a member of staff.
On the coach
Find a place to sit - all seats to be occupied.
Seatbelts MUST be worn. Stay seated at all times. No chewing gum
Travel
Monday 19th July 21:00 – leave BirleyTuesday 20th July 02.30 – check in at Dover 03.30 – ferry crossing 05.00 – arrive Calais (clocks go forward –
06:00 local time). Onward journey to Paris with stop en
route to get breakfast and buy a packed lunch
Trips/excursions
Tuesday – 10.00 Science Park – visit one of Europe’s best Science museums.
13:30 Visit Notre Dame 15:00 River cruise along
the Seine 16.30 Depart for hotel
where we will have our evening meal and take part in a Paris quiz.

Wednesday - Go to the top of the Eiffel Tower and enjoy the amazing views
Return to school
Wednesday: depart for Calais. Stop en route to buy lunch.
Evening ferry crossing and return to Birley – stop en route to buy evening meal (will need some English money for this).
Arrive at Birley at approx 23:45 on Wednesday 21st July. Students will contact you to confirm the time.

Thursday – students are expected to attend school – from break. Arrive by 10:20.(Break will be from 10:05 – 10:25 on Thursday)

Code of Conduct Listen carefully & follow instructions Be respectful to one another &
supervising adults Be co-operative & helpful NEVER go anywhere on your own –
stay with your teacher group or in groups no fewer than four
All goods MUST be paid for at the different visits, in Paris, or in the shops, at service stations
Try your best to speak French
Educational Visit Students may need to catch up
with any work missed at school. All students will have a work
booklet to complete during the visit.
Educational Visit Students are expected to produce
a project about the visit – these can be completed during the summer holidays – hand in to Miss Fitzpatrick in September.
Prizes to be awarded for the best ones
Medical information Students who normally carry medication
(e.g. asthma inhalers) must take this with them
All other medication (including travel sickness tablets, headache tablets) must be handed to your group leader, with a completed medical form
Any unused medication will be returned to students shortly before we arrive back at Birley
What happens next
Mobile phone numbers to Mr Taylor or to Mrs Musselwhite later this week if you haven’t got your phone today
See Ms Lindemann during tutor time on Monday 19th July 2010 to sign ID cards
