formulae and key facts.

o Use Collins Connect to practice basic methods. Diagnostic Questions can help

with basics BUT ALSO HAS AN AREA DEDICATED TO THE FURTHER MATHS

COURSE WITH PRACTICE QUESTIONS.

o The best revision activity for Further Maths is to complete past paper questions

and make sure that you make a list of problems you have encountered to sort out

in class. If you want to get ahead of the game, past papers and mark schemes

are available using the link: http://www.aqa.org.uk/subjects/mathematics/aqa-

certificate/further-mathematics-8360/past-papers-and-mark-schemes.

Controlled Assessment Information and Deadlines: Controlled assessment consists of a 2000 word essay based on our field visit to Saltaire. It is worth 20% of the final grade. Students wrote this in the Christmas term of Y11. Students will receive an intervention letter should they need to continue to work on their controlled assessment. Examination Dates: Paper 1: Medicine Through Time (Development Study) with Germany c1919-1945 Monday 5 June 2017 AM Time: 2 hrs Paper 2: Medicine Through Time (Public Health 1800-1914) Wednesday 14 June 2017 PM Time: 1hr 30 mins Recommended Revision Resources:

Use of past paper packs provided to all students when revision begins. NB These will also be used to test students under timed exam conditions during the revision period, and individual questions will be set as homework tasks.

Access OCR past exam papers and mark schemes on the OCR website – link below.

History Top Tips:

Ensure you have 100% attendance from January to May. If you are absent from school due to illness, see your History teacher to catch up on the missing work.

Ensure that you keep your revision materials e.g. folder and past exam packs in a safe place and bring to each lesson.

At home, create a ‘Revision Timetable’ and stick to it. History revision will start in class after Easter. This must be supplemented with revision at home to have the greatest impact.

Create History revision tools for all the topics you have studied – spider diagrams, revision flash cards, key word banks.

Ensure that you revise exam skills and technique as well as content. Ensure that you are clear which sections should be answered on Paper 1. Medicine

Through Time and Germany only. (NEVER Crime and Punishment) Ensure that you are clear how to select the correct options questions on each paper.

On Paper 1, you must answer ALL the sources questions from Medicine Through Time and ALL sources questions from Germany. But you do get a choice in section 2 of each topic with some limitations. E.g. If you choose to answer question 3, you must answer all parts a,b, and c. You cannot mix parts of questions. This is clearly explained on the front of your exam paper, so always read the instructions carefully.

Complete past exam questions by doing as many GCSE past papers as you can. This will familiarize you with the exam format, question style and time pressure.

Pay attention to how many marks each question is worth and adjust the amount you write accordingly.

Never miss out questions, especially on the part c options questions, as these are the ones that carry the bonus SPG marks on Paper 1.

Remember that the last question on Paper 2 requires the same source skills as you controlled assessment.

Top Tips

Make a revision timetable and stick to it. Start now and do a bit each day.

Use your yellow book as a revision tool.

Your homework is designed to support your revision so ensure that all tasks are

completed on time and to the best of your ability. Show all of your working out and

attempt all questions.

Your revision should be made up of 3 aspects:

o Read through notes and make a summary of each topic including

keywords, formulae and key facts.

o Use Just Maths, Collins Connect or Diagnostic Questions to complete

some practice questions.

o Complete past paper questions using the specimen papers given out in

class and check solutions. Speak to peers and teacher about any

questions you are still unsure about.

which will be played in the exam. Revise specific techniques required for each question – make notes in lessons. Listen to examples of all the above styles of music – become familiar with them. Ask

your teacher for a playlist. Because of the above, revision cannot be undertaken ‘last minute’. It can be blended

in with other revision over a long period of time. Read through your old practice/mock papers. The audio examples are available, as

Science Revision top tips

Revision literally means ‘re-vision’ looking at something again – which means you must have seen it in the first place. Check your notes / revision guide or ask your teacher if you are unsure.

Spider diagrams – helps you to get an idea straight in your mind before you write it down on a page.

Understand before you revise – try to ensure you understand new information as you go along – ask your teacher in the lesson for clarity of anything you are not sure of.

Draw up a revision timetable – it can help you keep track of how much revision you have done – a real confidence booster.

Make notes – but not too many – the act of writing something down helps to secure it into your brain.

Decorate your walls – flash cards (approx. 18 pieces per A4 card) – write down anything you need to remember (equations, diagrams, formulae) and stick them on your wall.

Practice papers (use the hyperlinks on the summary pages) you can’t beat doing past papers.

Mark schemes – in some cases exact wording is needed (mitosis / meiosis) – learn what the mark schemes say (again use the hyperlinks given in the summary pages).

Regular testing – ask mum/dad/gran or test yourself. Talk to yourself – it is the sign of a good reviser!

Always read what you have written, does it make sense? Does it answer the question?

Pause…. After reading a question before writing, this gap can help you formulate a clearer answer.

Good luck!

If you’re asked to add anything extra to your Controlled Assessment, DO IT! I won’t ask you for the fun of it, it will only be to increase your grade!

Ensure you have 100% attendance from January to May. If you are absent from school due to illness, see Mrs Barnes to catch up on the missing work.

Keep your notes in one place. Always copy up any notes that you’ve missed. Know the basics. Make sure you know your fibre and fabric properties. Revision for Textiles will start on our first lesson after February Half Term. Keep up with revision homework – Always bring your completed answers to lessons. Remember revision can be fun – use the QuizUp app on your phones and compete

against each other. Learn the names of specific fabrics – never refer to a cloth as ‘cotton’! Learn the names of the embellishment techniques you have used and others which

may be relevant to your design topic. Complete past exam questions by doing as many GCSE past papers as you can.

This will familiarise you with the exam format, question style and time pressure. Practise your designs for the design question – there are rarely any nasty surprises

with this part of the paper and we’re pretty good at guessing the type of question it will be!

Make use of the revision drop-in sessions which will be posted on the door of H20. If you’re stuck on any aspect of the work, I’m only too happy to help you.
