Visual Art - Frequently Asked Questions

• Do I need to have studied Visual Art in previous years?• Not necessarily, although it will be helpful in already knowing about the

materials used and you will build upon the skills learnt previously

• We use a variety of media and techniques including drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, digital, collage and printmaking which build upon skills from years 7-9

• How is year 10 Visual Art different from Certificate III Visual Art?• Year 10 Visual Art is an Australian Curriculum subject which not only teaches

the skills and techniques related to Visual Art, but also a range of skills which will benefit you across all of the subjects you study like analysis and demonstrating skills

• VET subjects like Cert III Visual Art focus on the skills related to working in the Visual Arts industry, which year 10 Visual Art will help prepare you for

• Do I need to be able to play and read music?• Year 10 Music develops student knowledge in theoretical and practical

understanding of Music. As it is a practical subject, it would be beneficial to be able to read Music and play an instrument, but this is not required.

• Do I have to perform in front of other people? • Yes. In Drama, you will be required to participate in classroom activities and

assessment tasks where you perform in front of your classmates.

Community Dance, Theatre and Events?• Year 10 Music and Drama are Australian Curriculum subjects which not only
