IMPORTANT INFORMATION

HOW TO COMPLETE YOUR IVET INSTITUTE ASSESSMENTS As a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) the IVET Institute is required to ensure that all of our VET in school students complete compliant assessments that have been thoroughly mapped in accordance with ASQA’s (the National VET regulator) requirements. This assessment must be completed for every student for every unit of competency completed. Your students will be provided with all assessment materials online through IVET’s on line portal IVETConnect (www,ivetinstitute.com.au). Students are required to log in with the secure password given to them by IVET and complete all of their assessment online. Each student is required to complete every assessment that is part of your schools program. All assessors are required to mark the students work on line and competency cannot be achieved until this occurs. All other materials provided by IVET, including student and teacher resources, are to support you in your teaching; we do not require any tasks, assignments or activities from these resources. LOGGING IN 1. Prior to completing any assessment tasks, trainer must first set up their classes on line. This is a very easy

process and can be completed in three simple steps. 2. Trainers are to access the IVET Connect logo located on the IVET Institute website. www.ivetinstitute.com.au

3. Trainers will need to enter their Login and Password details to access IVET Connect. (this code has been sent

to all trainers via email)

CHAPTER 1 - REVIEW QUESTIONS (SET 1)

1. Define the term ‘ergonomics’. Ergonomics is the study and science of how equipment and environment interacts with and affects the human body.

2. Give two benefits of using LCD monitors over CRT monitors.

• Lower radiation output • Lower power usage • Take up less space on the desk

3. What is the purpose of a footrest? To allow the user to rest their feet flat if they cannot reach the floor.

4. What is ‘Occupational overuse syndrome’ and how can it be avoided? Occupational overuse syndrome is a condition related to performing the same action repeatedly over a long period of time, causing pain and soreness in the affected area.

5. List three possible causes of noise in an office area / I.T. environment

• People having loud conversations • Printers and photocopiers • Air-conditioners / Toilets

6. Draw and label diagram that shows the position and angle or the back, hips, knees and ankles that

should be used when sitting at a computer desk. Sample:

7. What is the purpose of a document holder?

Document holders are placed to the left/right of the monitor and are used to hold documents at eye level, minimising head and neck movement.

8. How often, and for how long, should exercise breaks be implemented? Exercise breaks (such as walking around) should be implemented roughly every 20-30 minutes, and should last for about 20-30 seconds.

9. In what units is light intensity measured? Light is measured in units of Lux (lx).

10. What is ‘glare’ and how can it be avoided? Glare is caused by differences from one area to another, and usually occurs if a monitor is placed directly in front of a window. This can be avoided by using blinds or placing the monitor perpendicular to the light source.

11. What body positions are associated with bad posture while sitting at a computer? Examples of bad posture while at the computer include:

• Leaning too far forward • Hunching over the keyboard • Leaning back with feet on the desk

12. How should the height of the monitor be adjusted?

The monitor height should be adjusted so that the top of the monitor is at eye level when the user looks directly forward.
